Looks like we are going to get an update in late October. I sure hope its a good one, we don't need anymore disappointments. Hopefully its not all new content and we get what we need.
this is good to hear. late october is late, but it's better than not at all. however, it still bothers me that the NI staff don't bother to post any of this information here, but instead use external blogsites and low-brow "social networking" facilities.
Hi Guys, Harold here, I am producer on Next Island. First off, I just wanted to say that the date that David Post listed for the next content release is incorrect. The date I have (so far) is more a range of late September. Once we have an actual, or as close to actual, date from our platform partner we will update you here and on the blog. I think David more or less misspoke on his blog and we (Meg, staff and myself) have been holding out on any announcement until we have an expected date from MindArk but did want to address as best I could. The only content we won’t be mentioning here in the next several weeks is anything relating to licensed or branded items as they are subject to an approval process. I have talked to the art department today and we are getting to the point where we can begin release teaser art and renders of new items next week and throughout the month of September. Meg has been after me for art to show you guys and we are very nearly to that point in the process in this development sprint. Also, a heads-up that our new website will have new game walkthroughs, tutorials and game story content all throughout September as well building to our new content release. Best, -Harold
Looks like David let something slip on his blog! Our goal is actually the last week in September for our next content release, but the exact date has not been confirmed.
I like September better! Makes you wonder who is actually in charge? But also confirms that MA has the final say on when the update is going to be rolled out. How about telling us whether or not bp's, armor, and weapons will be in this release?
You know that's a bad idea incase there is a last minute change that prevents it. Plus if it was known for sure, then we can expect the same people who never cared about NI to show and go after all the new gear, you know, the people who did that on all other planets :)
Well if we were told it was going to be added and it didn't happen then we could all go off on MindArk :) And regardless, if told now or they find out the day of the update they would still show up like wild wolves that haven't eaten in weeks :)
Sorry to break it guys.... but too little too late... information is key in any business, and lack of information means lack of effort, and a lack of a viable product. If BP's were going to be released it would be fine to say months in advance.... at least say there is progress on it, there is no conflict of interest or insider information in a game such as this, this is a gambling site in the eyes of the US gov. and overseas rules dont apply to everyone. we dont need excuses. we just needed a product... Since we have Harolds attention.... this is just a players perspective on NI... I built a avatar to start on NI, to start on the ground floor of a burgeoning economy, and to take part in time travel... <have yet to go to greece, its not even close to finished enough yet> I was born in Serpentine, I had a friend in the game and wanted to start a character, it took me 3 hours of trying to run for an invisible Tp my friend swore was there... while things were trying to kill me, finally someone rescued me. So my first 2 globals were from mountain boars rescuing others that had the same start as me. I was introduced to a Society, and joined Next Island Noobs. currently i hold a senior position, and have sponsored many events on NI. I have watched many players that i have taken under my wing, and watch grow, just disappear after many bad speed bumps. after no response from the powers that be... i offered a free trip off of NI to any society member. most have abandoned NI. Our new name is Uber Noobs... and currently I <speaking for myself> cannot sponsor any more events <treasure hunts, etc> on NI. I cannot vouch for the planets future and will not lie to a new player, and say it will be all better soon. simply i state its a work in progress, and once long ago, it had promise.... But its not Home anymore.
Chuck, just a couple things to touch on, it's not just the Swedish government that does not consider EU to be gambling, the Canadian government does not either, although in your case, that doesn't really make a difference, just wanted to point out that Sweden is not alone. Having been here a little longer, I have some experience to share with you to help put things about EU into better perspective. Back on Calypso, in my first couple days, met an avatar that was very helpful, about a week latter he started a soc of his own, NEO, and invited me to join. I worked very hard to recruit new players to NEO, most I never saw again after the first day, and that's when sweat actually had a market. Almost a year goes by and we have an active member count around 80, then one day our leader logged off never to return, and with no-one else able to accept new recruits logging on either, after a couple weeks, we started splitting off to different socs. A few of us wanted to stay together in a soc, and for some reason I don't understand, I was nominated to create and lead the new soc. At that point, there was 13 of us that formed The Guild, at our highest point, we had 35 active members, 14 months after creating the Guild, we had 2, including myself. So loosing players has nothing to do with NI, it's how EU works as a whole. Then one day, a little more then a year ago, the second planet came online, Rocktropia, went there along with everyone else to explore, after the initial rush, I left with everyone else, and Rocktropia almost became a ghost planet, except at that time, Neverdie was still allowed to play, and he regularly held a flea market where he bought others players stuff to artificially stimulate the economy. You see, Rocktropia struggled for 9 months before finding the balance it needed to start a real economy. It's not as simple as create a blueprint and then toss it in, everything has to be carefully considered how it will effect the universe as a whole. Also, you can have 10k blueprints, but without enough crafters, you still have no economy. Why do you think common materials have MU in the range 100-103% when you would realistically need to sell them for 115-120% to profit? Not enough people using them. Why? Not enough people to sell what you make to. So the common stuff is too common, and the rare stuff is too rare duo to not enough people, so the crafters that can actually make stuff out of the rare material have to charge more, because they have to pay more to make it. So the gap grows, common becomes worthless, and rare becomes almost unique. It's a vicious cycle of not having enough people, and it's a universal problem. Although the lack of content on NI isn't helping player retention, it's not hurting it either. Arkadia launched very well, with everything the players said was wrong with RT and NI being attended to before launch. Basically they sat back and watched NI and RT make mistakes, then did what the players thought they should do. This worked out real well for their economy, before long, there was more material then people to craft it, so many items found that they drove down the markup of similar items from other planets. Space came in time to save Arkadia from falling further, since Ospra is needed for welding wire, and space is lootable, it's value is higher on Calypso then on Arkadia, and mostly why it sells on Ark is because people brave(or stupid) enough to try and flip it on Calypso. So flooding content doesn't help, and Arkadia is an example of how it has a negative effect Universe wide. So although NI is not finished, Mr. Posts drive for new users is the right idea, he's going after new users while dev is going after content to keep those users. Ya, but this is the first NI update since space was released, and I've had time to practice, they gotta get past me in space before they can get to NI and raid it. :)
That was with a helicopter, in a very tiny area so I couldn't line up a shot without leaving the pvp area :).
I thought you were voting for grass skirts and half-cup coconut halters. I vote for the coconuts, too; but, I'd like a nice shiny fish scale miniskirt.
Concept Art up! Next Island Dev Blog | Behind The Scenes and Development News for MMO Next Island First thought when I saw the article is "What do we need a colorator for? That isn't a top priority" But I have to say "Way cool!" :) I can't wait to carry that around :) I just hope its doesn't have a 50% condition rate and its more eco then the others.
Great news about the forcoming update :) I really want to se NI succeed, cos its a great little planet, but i do have a hard time recommending it to noobs. They have a few particular problems with NI that they don't have elsewhere: 1) they can';t sell their sweat. A sweat market is vital to those who want to try the game outbefore depositing 2) they can't find an organised band of other noobs to hang out with and share info, not now Next Island Noobs have given up :( 3) sooner or later they are gonna find misty TP (or the other similar ones) and get stuck , or else that stupid revive in the middle of nowhere that you can't get away from (if you have no TP chip or transport) without a sucidal leap. And there isn't anyone around to rescue you ofc. #3) is the biggy , IMO and ( unlike 1 and 2) dead easy to fix. Why the heck has it not yet been fixed????? Any half-way sane noob is gona quit the game as soon as he lands in one of those spots. jay
