Grey Papoo wavespawn bug? Help solve the mystery

Discussion in 'Next Island bugs & issues' started by jaywalker, Sep 7, 2011.

  1. I posted about this on PCF as more people post there, and the same bug (whatever it is) also occurs on Calypso, it seems

To save a lot of explaining , please see the thread:

Swirlies but no loot, in wavespawn event.

    Mindark's not-particularly-helpful reply is on page 2

My latest theory:: maybe the system is bugged such that all the greys OUTSIDE the event area count as a separate shared loot spawn? If some team killed one of those, and our friend was just outside the area, that would explain why he got swirls (but no loot) and we didn't.

Can anybody help to confirm/disconfirm this?

Have people had "shared loot" globals on this mob, outside the wavespawn area?

It would be particularly helpful if someone could confirm that they got this particular global:

    Thanks a lot

    jay :)

  2. I've not been part of a team hunt to know anything about loot messages and shared loot and stuff. I did explore the beach where that Grey Papoo wave spawner totem stands and the radius of the spawn is huge (compared to the "Sensor ( )" spawners for Brown, Red and Yellow Papoos.) It's a really broad beach and when I hung out long enough to see the spawn, there were dozens of Grey Papoos all over the place. It might be difficult to tell where the edges were to the wave event area.

I haven't been around that area more than the one time, but on that one trip, further north on that same beach, and over a jagged rocky divide between the Grey spawner zone and a further large beach zone to the east, I didn't see Grey Papoos. Mixed Petite and regular Browns and Reds and stuff. I can't say as I saw a lot of lone Greys standing around after the spawn timed out and they all dropped dead. (I am too low to work on the 250 Greys mission there just yet, Youngs about kill me and they are too dense and I would get adds.)

Again, one observation only so I can't say for sure there are ~no~ Greys on or around that beach that aren't part of the wave event.

  3. Once I received a global message about 2 hours after I had actually received the global. I only knew I received the global earlier because I looted an LR32(L) and found it odd that the message didn't come up. Anyway when I looted the LR32 I was solo, when the message appeared I was in a team and the message came up with the team name in it. So maybe your friend got a good loot earlier in the day and the message was delayed until they teamed up with you guys.

EDIT, this was on Calypso and not in a wave spawn area, but sounds kinda the same.

  4. I went back to the Grey Papoo wavespawner tiki to refresh my memory.

While the Yellow Papoo Sensor wavespawner is further up the beach (well separated,) there is a long stretch of beach between the Yellow spawner and the Grey wave area. In that section of beach there is nothing but annoying buka-birds alternating between burying themselves in the beach, or darting back and forth high in the air almost out of rifle range.

At the area around the Grey-spawning tiki, there is no other life on the beach aside from occasional buka-bird flyovers.

Greys spawn, and the radar is alive (one stray blip is a buka-bird)

Grey spawn times out, and the radar is nothing but dead Grey bodies.

Here's the beach littered with dead Greys, none alive in the whole wave event radius.

The Grey wavespawn tiki and area are isolated, to the west is water, directly east is a cliff. No stragglers can wander in aside from buka-birds. The jagged area of rocks southeast of the spawn area separates the Greys area from the next nearest Papoos to the east up in those rocks and on across the big beach to the east. I moused over all that were remotely near and they were all Brown, Petite Brown and Petite Red Papoos.

So I feel pretty confident compared to my previous post saying, there aren't any wandering solo Greys on that beach that don't appear as part of the spawn event, and don't drop dead as a group if it times out.

Hope that helps, I got the impression from the Calypso forum thread that there was speculation a Grey could have died that wasn't part of the spawn. There don't appear to be any uninvolved Greys.

  5. noting in passing, aside from two random encounters in the brush that I was never able to target, that beach between the Yellow and Grey Papoo spawners is the only reliable place I've found that a person could hunt buka-birds, if you wanted to just make your blood-pressure rise while getting "failed to get within interaction range" messages, slowly pacing, and pointing your weapon straight up. I had this crazy idea of developing a loot list for those birds...you can't even edit in the L10 danger level, since it has no maturity, and Entropedia won't let you add anything without specifying a maturity level for them.

    Buka-birds, super annoying.

  6. Fixed that for you, seems the "Animal-Next island" catagory is bugged and wont let you choose "single maturity"

  7. Rock on! Wiki wizard. I've made use of those editing functions on Entropedia but still get stumped when they prove balky.

  8. Lol, I'm not a Wiki wizard, I just knew there was an option for single maturity mob so I poked around until I found how to assign it to Buka birds :)

  9. Thanks very much for all the information, guys, but i think you misunderstood the question. By "Outside the event area" i meant ANYWHERE outside the event area, not just a little way oustide. There is at least one huge grey papoo spawn in the island , but i forget where exactly. There is the possibility that ALL grey papoos , or all grey papoos with a certain area are "shared loot", not just the event ones. If so, that would explain why we didn't see another hunter, and it might also explain why only the hunter who was standing just outside the event area got sworls, but the other two of us didn't.

There have been incidents (on Calypso) of people getting "shared loot " globals outside wave-event areas, and on unexpected mobs, so this isn't such a strange idea. Somebody posted an example on my PCF thread.

I'm sure that we can believe Support when they say that the loot was fairly distributed amongst all the hunters that damaged the mob, but they don't say who or, importantly, where those hunters were. They haven't even confirmed that those hunters were not ourselves!

I was really hoping that the person(s) who actually received a 55 PED shared loot gey papoo global on that day might post here and say where they were hunting. Or that people could post to confirm that shared loot grey pappoos do occur in other locations than the wavespawn event

  10. Oh the big spawn of Grey Papoo at Serpentine has been removed, there are only small spawns now, guess someone could try killing them until they got a global and see if it comes up as shared loot. Personaly I think this is more like the bug we had in Feb last year, where people saw other peoples damage messages, this time we are seeing other peoples global messages.

  11. game messages seem a bit random...I've gone through spawners where it said the event wasn't available for 5 minutes, or the wave timed out, and I have completely left the area and are up checking the auction and I'll get a message about wave 1 starting in 10 seconds...
