LOL! I'm afraid I would get a bill instead for overthrowing the statue of OMEGATON's founder or whatever it is.
Let's harass MA with sarcasm, eh? Sometimes I don't like this idea. My nine years EU were helpful for my RL. I don't like to blame them in generally. I like pepper in open wounds, sure. But I think a 3D-modeler at MA doesn't need much more time for such a job. Okay, textures like old bronze or/and weathered stone have to be applied. Let's say two or three hours after the scan. Than a coder must put the object into place and someone else must do a test-run. So all in all working time for one statue is something around four hours. Half a day. I agree with San: The problem are not the modelers or coders but the folks who give the orders what to do and when. Edit: The modelers and coders at MA are folks like me or my hired modeler Yevgeny from Ukraine. They are employees or freelancers. I'm afraid most of them are faster than me ...
Fucking pay Jamira to do it and there must be some Crytek devs out there with a spare afternoon to plonk the model. Zheesh!
That would be for sure the easy way I think. When I made the towers for Monria I just delivered polygons without textures. MA had to finish the job. And they made it pretty good. In case of statues it would be way more simple. They can use the same pedestal for all statues and have to change the name only. Then put some bronze-, gold- or marmor-texture on it and implement it into the game. If they were cool, they would enable old poses like sitting for the grab session. But I can grab poses from dance moves as well. How ever, I don't think they will.
Sorry, but I did not try to talk down the people doing the actual work of course, not their fault their bosses are stupid (but if I worked for a company that was screwing over their customers over and over again I would be looking around for maybe a different job, but that's beside the point here). The point is exactly your answer, it would take them a day at most, so that's 800 dollars to implement the model (with a pretty high hourly rate). Not sure how many of those models there should be, but a couple of 1000 dollars and they are done. I know MA does not care about bad press (because nobody is actually interested in them to make the bad press) but with a normal company this would outweigh the negative attention by 10 fold (I think Facebook is a pretty good example these days).
Yep. And guess what, we are still here - ROFL! Was no offense, RAZER. I just wanted to defend the poor employees. Well, let's calculate it seriously: For the grab with 3D Ripper DX (and as far as I can see there is no alternate) you need an old 32-bit computer with Windows XP. If it is a good one there won't be problems. I got an old bitch from McCormick (thank you again, friend!). This one is really slow. Every click leads directly to a waiting of several minutes. I'm pretty sure, MA could get a way better one. Furthermore you need an old version of 3DS Max, up to 2011, to import the grabbed geometry. I think they own licenses for 3DS Max. They should be able to get an old version from Autodesk. Or use an old installation disk. So ... Make an instruction sheet for customers how to proceed (clothing/armour/weapons/tools/poses/place/date) - 1 x 30 min. run 3D Ripper DX and run EU. Meet the customer ingame and make a grab - 10 min per customer. import the grabbed file to 3DS Max and prepair it: Delete double polygons and all the enviroment, put a standard texture (bronze) on the figure, scale it - 15 min per customer. Make a pedestal for all statues with textures and an editable name - 1 x 30 min. A coder must place the 3D-models into the game. Are there dummies already? If so, just change one name in the code to replace the dummy at the right place with the new figure. It can be done for 10 customers at once. Compile and test it - 10 x 5 min. As Notadmin mentioned: Such statues are just static objects with a collision box around. Easy. Next update and PONG! The statue is ingame. Let's sum it up for 10 statues ... 30 min instruction 100 min grab 150 min prepair 30 min pedestal 50 min implement 6 hrs for 10 customers. Let's be generous ... 1 day, 1 man. Let's use RAZER's number: 800 Euro. We end at 80 Euro costs for MA per customer. Okay, they want to earn some money. What about 3000 PED per statue and additional the statue is (L) over time. You may repair it or not for a small monthly fee of 50 PED. Today I saw an advertising for a black Feodora hat IRL. 190 Euro. I once owned one ingame. Coloured black. This baby was way more costly than the real life one :-)
You'll have to wait for the intern to get back from lunch and re-explain that whole thing over agian.
Nice Costing Jamira - I think that sounds about right. And to look at the bottom line, 1 day's work for "how much was it they made?" seems perfectly reasonable to me. Wistrel
I did! :D Alas I've not done the tutorial on scuplting yet and couldn't divide this thing up as I wanted but here you go... very crudely using bronze for everything :D
