I have recently downloaded EVE, but the file has gone corrupt, so I'm still waiting to redownload. I know some people here play EVE too. I have done the trial before, but it's awfully complicated to learn in 14 days. So if anybody would like to help me out in the beginning, please let me know. The 4 races: What are the pros and cons of the different races? Professions: I would like to be a miner, what should i know? GTC's: I know people sell GTC's on the forums. How much do they cost nowadays? Is it possible to earn enough ISK with trial to buy GTC's? Thanks in advance! K.
If anyone wants a 21-day trial, send me your email per PM and I'll invite you (only have 2 for this month though). There's a nice short introduction to the four races here: The Four Eve Races In short, the Amarr use lasers, Caldari uses hybrid turrets and missiles, Gallente use hybrid turrets and drones and the Minmatar use projectile turrets. What you choose in the beginning doesn't limit you so much through the game though, as you can always learn skills of the other factions. I've started as Minmatar myself but skilling to Gallente now because I like the ship design more :D Don't know about mining, Im doing full combat, but from what I heard it's as fun as crafting in EU with the exception that it can give a nice profit. GTCs are mostly sold ingame where they are called PLEX. They are worth about 280-300 mil atm and add 30 days to your game time (even if you are on trial it adds up and automaticaly activates the account, so you don't lose your 2/3 weeks of free gametime) It might be possible to get that during the trial with trading which is probably the best profiting profession if you do it right. To get around 30mil/hour with mining, you would have to go to the less safer areas. With combat missions you can get from 20 to40mil/hour running missions in high-sec, but to be able to do those you need a battleship and at least 3 months worth of skilltraining. Stuff like exploring wormholes can be even more profitable but it takes long to learn and even longer to master, and you need a well organized corporation most of the time. It is a quite complex game so don't give up fast, it only gets better as you go on. If you need any help ingame, send me a mail or PM ingame, "GDNebu".
Thank you for the intro! I'll let you know when i plan on starting with playing ;) I think 21 days is enough to get a decent amount of cash.. And if it's not enough for a PLEX, which are much cheaper then the 60day GTC's, I could always transfer it to another account.. Or not?
Well for a GTC you get 2 PLEX ingame, so it's basicly the same thing, but it's a nice system to allow ppl to legally buy money ingame and for those who can't or don't want to spend money to buy game time. Trial accounts can't send ISK to other people though.
Oh.. well, I see how it turns out ;) I also remember they have a daily server inspection. At what time is this normally?
It is scheduled for 11-12 EVE time every day (GMT, or EP forum clock-2) but usually it's only 5-20 minutes downtime.
think im slowly getting a feel for it, although the pupose and story if any is still a bit foggy to me hehe Feel free to add me to contacts ingame, suprizingly my name is John BD :D
I'm very interested in this game now, possibly as an alternative to EU. How big is it to download? How much data does it eat during gameplay? What PC specs would I need to play this?
The download is around 2,6 GB I believe. If with data you mean bandwidth usage, I doubt it is more than 5 MB/hour. As for requirements, if you can run EU you can run EVE, the official info is here EVE Online Support | System requirements for EVE Online I have three 21-day trial invites again, if you want one just PM me your email and I'll send you one.
Thanks for the offer, Nebu, but I'd already started downloading by the time I saw your message. You were correct that it is 2.6Gb and that my machine runs it fairly well, although I'm finding some lag just after undocking and after jumping between solar systems. It's quite complex too. On the training mission to deliver an item I did the journey three times before realising that I'd not taken the item from the Hangar and placed it in my cargo hold as I should have lol. I'll stick with it for the thirteen days of my free trial that I have left and then see from there.
Yeah I get some lag then too, it's loading a lot of stuff at once, but after it's done that you should be fine. And you are absolutely right, it is complex :D If you need any help just contact me ingame.
i upgraded my trail to a paid 1, propably paying 1 month after that earning gametime ingame by mining or/and missions. also got it running on my litle samsung nc10 netbook and suprizingly well. good to mine with and put skilltraining, for combat screen size is just too small :D
This evening I've tried a few of the non-tutorial missions, delivering medical supplies and the like. I was offered a mission that meant combat but didn't want to risk losing my ship. To be honest, this game isn't grabbing my imagination in the way that I expected it to. I will persevere with it for the duration of my free trial though.
To be fair, I don't think that EVE online is going to occupy me in future. The idea sounds great - an Elite-like game where you fly through space, buying and selling and getting into skirmishes, but the whole point-and-click control of the game lessens the experience for me. If that wasn't enough, I've logged off while on a mission where I'm supposed to destroy a warehouse, kill the pirates and steal the stock. But there's no warehouse, no pirates and no stock at the location (waypoint) I've been given. Not even an accelerator as on a previous mission that had me stumped at the weekend. Quite honestly the whole thing is a disappointment.
Check out the General and Newbie sections of the EVE forum -- they will be able to give you tons of information you'll get nowhere else. Tip: Ask questions at the Newbie section. The General Discussion crowd can be a little rough at times. There's also sections for Missions, Trade/Industry and I think Law & Order too IIRC. And other subjects too. Welcome to EVE. you'll frikkin' LOVE it. Look me up ingame if you think of it -- I'm Yirrkala Wombarra there too of course.
