Amusing idea...

Discussion in 'Entropia Community' started by Magyar, Aug 18, 2010.

  1. Now thats a challenge! I think I tried someting similar on Entropia Forum, the thread eventually resulted in my departure from the forum as friendly users showed their support and willingness to look at an idea objectively. I think perhaps if it were done in a structured debate format it might work, but simply creating a post out in the ether and trying to discuss it is flame bait.

Kindof like this thread. Some people cant help themselves and have to post something negative and without constructive value just to post it. (Not saying those who think this idea is without merit are in this category. Disagreement is valuable. But those would use this as an opportunity to offer thinly veiled personal attacks can kiss my left buttocks cheek!)

I probably dont help the situation any by showing my irritation -- it tends to add fuel to the fire. But in the intarwebs most discussions dont stay on topic past page 3 anyway. The short attention span of most readers tends to cut off everything in a paragraph after the first few sentences, so the gradual loss of information is inevitable as people truncate each successive point made until the idea is distilled down to meaninglessness.

Is this what you call your "flare" for argument? I have read far too many of your rantings on EP, EF, MMORPG and even the nonsense you have posted on your own little forum.

Perhaps you are mistaking your skill at writing for a skill at debate that you simply do not have.

Ok you dont like me. I think we get it. Move along now.

Seriously this reminds me of days gone by and certain characters trolling forums in the same way. Man you need to get help and soon. Reading what I have read thus far posted all over by Magyar, im starting to worry about your mental wellness.

So your response to the observation is to belittle it and call him/her names?

Yeah, this works well for you argument..

  6. Refer to page 2 where I mentioned what happens to most internet threads by page 3. :-)

Thanks to those who tried to discuss this.

  7. I have said it before (not in this thread though.)
    Calling it X doesn't mean It's X.

You stirred up the forums quite a bit, you created drama, congratulations.
Does this entitle you to said skills?
    Nope, not really.

I have done a kickflip on a skateboard, does this make me a skater?
I have never tried to piss against the wind, does this make me a genious?

    No, I it does not.

Seing you called xentric a troll for not agreeing with you makes me wonder, who is infact the troll here?
The one who creates drama, or the one who calls the drama creator out?
I figured I could do some trolling to, so I'm not left out.

    I bet you're a conservative.

  12. lol at least Narfis reply had some humor :-)

Actually this thread has inspired me. Earlier I was given a challenge: Create an argument that does not defame or ruin the reputation of others. How about I use whats been gathered in this thread to show how the internet community lacks a sense of humor, and is prone to excessive trolling.

This was an idea for fun, people. Im not surprised though. Alot of these same names here are often seen complaining about loot, deposits, mindark this and that, etc. Youve forgotten how to have fun, and in the case of some *cough* Mistress Arwen *cough* clearly do not enjoy this game you play. A little research into your post history shows that very clearly.

Anyhow, Im considering writing an argument entitled "Where did the fun go?"

I'll feature quotes from this particular thread in the creation of my article. I'd ask what you guys think, but most of you are a rather negative bunch so there's no need to ask.

Please GET PROFFESIONAL HELP!! Its for your own good. There are better ways to get the attention you want. Some of us have been in these forums and game for years and tbh we have seen this behaviour and phenomenon before. So in retrospect we all know what we are talking about. Many have come with simular ideas and suggestions in various forms. none was taken serious. Your own damn fault too for putting yourself in the public stage like this and getting seriously flamed by some peops waaaay outa your leaque. Remember this is a international forum spanning the entire planet, better be realy carefull in making a fool of yourself.

Will be waiting with baited breath to see how well you do.

Hmmm, didn't last too long without defaming or ruining the reputation of others. This future thread should be an interesting read.. :D

I'm sure you'll want to expand past just this one thread, right? You would be trying to show how there is no humor in the INTERNET COMMUNITY... not just this thread, right? Please do the needed research if you are going to meet the challenge because I'm sure there are a bunch of people here that are ready to rebuke your statements.
Look at Oleg's posts.. now there's funny. It was at your expense but it was still funny..:alcohol:
And, you know.. I think I'm a seriously funny fucking guy too when given the chance.. :headbang:

    and the proper inspiration...

  16. The article will definitely not restrict itself to this one thread. Nor will it restrict itself to Entropia Universe. In fact I'll be visiting the sites of top games as well as mmorpg.com and using online D&D dice to randomly select both the thread number and the post on the thread to spot check these particular titles and see how much fun people may or may not be having. The amount of positivity versus negativitity therefore is still somewhat up in the air, though 13 years of playing these games lends me to believe that there will be plenty of negativity to go around!

This particular thread I am only going to use to illustrate what may happen when a user attempts to propose an idea for fun that is outside of the accepted norm.

    Chill out folks. Seriously.

If anything this is a way to get back on topic here. People may consider themselves having a whole mess of fun on these games. The "trial" here is meant to be one that you can do at home, on your own, based off some points I am going to make. Where did the fun go, and are you actually having fun at the game you are playing?

Back on topic, and back on topic in a way that is not geared towards anyones personal destruction.

    Cheers,

    -MR

I'm not trying to break up your fun but I think you need to try and look at the other side of the coin for a bit.

A person comes in and says, just for fun, they would like to put together a process where he could litigate issues for individuals in controlled environment but open for all to see.

Some might not look at this as a "fun" thing to be pulled into, correct?

  18. Some might also not consider engaging in a forum discussion where people are obviously trying to flame them fun. While some points being made here are obviously meant to annoy and harass, however, other folks make points that while they may disagree with me they provide for productive discussion. I like productive discussion, and this is what I am generally responding to.

I think this particular post misses a point I had probably not very clearly made in my initial statement. That's likely because this is just an off the cuff idea, and I'd be surprised if I spent any more than 5 minutes responding to any one particular post on this thread, or authoring my initial post, since this was posted only for the purpose of sharing an idea. :coffee:

The point I think this argument misses is that this is a voluntary, contracted service (albeit a hypothetical one at this stage). People are still free to flame each other to their hearts content on open forums and never engage this service on any level. Its only for those who are interested in it. The hope is that others who enjoy a lively, structured discussion get involved as representatives as well. With this type of arrangement I think the "unwitting participant" factor should be minimalized.

This is the type of discussion I was looking for. As I said, its OK to disagree with me. All I ask is a bit of civility. ;)

  19. I've started research on the article Im going to write here, and thought it would be more fair to limit the amount of threads I could pick per game. So I chose the number 3, because in a typical argumentative paper three arguments is considered sufficient to establish an argumentative point. This could be belabored by adding more and more points ad nauseum however I dont intend for this to be a PhD dissertation! Im sure some folks may criticise the amount of research done in any particular game as too few, but bear in mind Im going to look across a spectrum of games.

The first game I decided to pick on I chose based off of raw population figures. Its the biggest MMO on the market. If you guessed World of Warcraft, youre correct! I've never played WoW aside from a brief stint in 2005 where I signed up for a free trial and logged off after about an hour. I know next to nothing about the game.

I rolled a D-100 (100 sided dice) three times and selected three threads based on those results. The results I got were 42, 1, and 76 in that order. Ive screenshotted these results and theyll appear in my article. As luck would have it these three threads are relatively short, so I did not have to roll a d-20 (20 sided dice) to pick an initial statement to start my review. I've yet to really even read these threads, I just copied the links into notepad after looking over their length. But I'll share them with you.

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Leveling

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> Frustrated with Alliance...

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums -> The spam stars aligned?

If anyone has a suggestion for an MMORPG I can add to this Im open to suggestions. Currently I will likely look at WoW, Darkfall Online, Mortal Online, LOTRO, Aion, Fallen Earth, and Entropia Universe. I'll also as I said pick a few threads randomly off MMORPG.com's general discussion forum. I feel this list is adequate, but for the sake of random selection I'll add one or two more games based off what folks want me to look at here. The game must have a public forum, and must be an MMO.

There has been enough input to this thread to allow for some indication of the answer to your original question. In the direct marketing environment there is a "formula" of sorts to evaluate the efficacy of your pitch - "Knock on 10 doors to make 3 appointments and 1 sale."

Your thread has generated 368 views (knocks), with 37 replies (appointments)..... how many sales have you made?
