Yep. Theres alot of cool possibilities here! Im looking forward to the types of development MA does on the platform to accommodate planet Michael.
Ok the Planet Micheal was on a Dutch website today (www.tweakers.net) and they said that the age for playing the game is 13 years old. So does this mean that for Planet Micheal there is a lower age requirement and that you can't go to the other planets when you are below 18. Or are they changing the game to be 13+ all together (explains the Feffoid 'thing') link: Company is working on Michael Jackson-game world
Hmm, i've read all the comments on the preview sites and i really have to say i would drop this like a hot potato. Already the comments are kinda damning from general gamers, and tbh the sordid gossip that surrounds the whole MJ franchise kinda worries me. I have/am trying really hard to be optomistic about the planets (even ones i don't like), but the initial responses are just what i had feared. We may say ah well they are just trolls but this is different, i think the issues surrounding his life will just make the whole planet a troll fest. I really hope i am wrong and it is a success, and wish SEE/MA all the luck in the world with this one (i think they are going to need it with planet MJ). The actual idea about dance moves etc sounds interesting though, i just hope the gameplay and planet is enough to counter the negative. .
er, there must have been some legal basis for them to go to court. im the first one to support innocent untill proven gulity, but in Jackos case he went to court three times and paid of the accuser 3 times. hmmm. added to this he said openly in an interview that he had slept with children, albeit meant in the literal sence. i dont know where you're from, but round here if i had a local kid round for a sleep over i would be convicted of something. personally though, the biggest revulsion of Jacko was his single Black and White, when he had spent the previous decade trying to look as caucasian as possible. some role model. i'd have thought if there is no violence there will be no offensive anything on planet wacko. no melee, no mindforce. maybe a bit of taming of bubbles? grooming too.
I saw that too on tweakers. Kinda surprised the planet doesnt allow violence (aka hunting, pvp etc) Maybe they have builtin a restrictor like they do with events and stuff . It could be possible
Well, if on some planets you could use MF / Melee and not other common weapons ... would markups for such skills and availability of the weapons go up or down? What about other skills? Players starting from Planet michal would not have and LWT or Rifle or Handgun skills (ok, 1 point each :P) while the rest of us have no moves or dance fight skills...
Well.............. "No violence" is not quite what they said. Yes, it is possible that there will be no weapons as we have now allowed in. However, the "moves" part certainly hints at some kind of violaence and pvp would be possible, even if it is still in development. And how would we fight the dangers to environment (litterbug mobs, anyone? :P) that they talk about without some offensive capability? Something off-topic that just occurred to me - after MF was reintroduced in EU, the event system I guess wasn't ? So instead of "allow firearms / allow melee" it should really now be a three way selection so you can have MF only events, like you can for melee. Anybody want to file a bug report?
Razer, good find there. I don't see how that target demographic can be a good fit with the RCE nature of the Entropia platform.
Yep, I agree. I try to be optimistic about the other planets as well but I have signed up for a sci fi one and do not want mine to be mixed with music ones, golfing ones, or whatever other ones, I don't mind planet michael, but I don't think ma realises that this one could turn into a really foul apple for them. I's too hot a topic, and prolly always will since we will now never know the truth and I don't know if all the mj fans in the world could make this work. (hey, I listened to his early stuff too when I was young, but then he just turned dodgy)
There are alot of valid points opposing this game, and aside from the ones objecting to the personality of MJ being used most of these objections I think come from a very traditional view of MMOs. Im not going to say this particular planet will be a huge success. It may not be. But its ideas like this that push the frontier of MMO development. We've gotten used to our cookie cutter MMOs. Whether its with swords or guns we all basically go out, kill mobs, and then cash in our loot. Other types of interaction with the game environment are essentially afterthoughts, including crafting and mining. In EU these afterthoughts are rather well balanced and developed, but the core game is still killing monsters, as thats what drives the economy. In a game where hunting is not the norm what type of direction will they take to power the basic engine of the game? The truth is, we dont know, and we cant fathom it. Some may condemn the effort, but from my perspective its only through risking failure that you push the limits of success. I say let SEE risk it. MA risked failure once by publishing an expensive RMT game. Who would play it when you could subscribe to any other MMO for $10-15 a month? Wasnt this said? It seems awfully shallow to me to see the community so eager to condemn something that can only offer a new direction of development for EU. We've all bashed NEVERDIE and Rocktropia for being just another extension of Calypso, yet when a game is announced that will bring something new to the EU table we scoff and chant that its impossible. Fail Fail game is Fail. This development can enrich the VR experience on all planets. Whether planet MJ succeeds or fails is irrelevant.
Don't get me wrong Magyar, i read the idea's for the planet and they sound interesting for sure. Using Dance moves and non violence is a really good idea, refeshing and intriguing kinda. I just hope that the RL issues and gossip over his late career do not taint the game/concept, i'm pretty sure most people had that in the back of their minds. As for his music and performing career A1 however :).
Youre right. And I believe that will ultimately be the downfall of him. Guilty or innocent its really not my personal place to judge. I wasnt part of the proceedings, I did not get to see the evidence, and so in short I dont think I am qualified to act in that regard. I wish other people thought the same way, but I've had to accept long ago that most people only want to observe proper social conduct when they are the ones being threatened by misbehavior. It is what it is. Unfortunately because of that his career will, as it always has done, take a back seat to his personal issues. Even post mortem.
Maygar's holding out for a trounce with Dirty Diana. LOL If they are indeed targeting a low-teenage demographic model, where's the income gonna come from? In game ads? Parent's credit cards? A PED card that can be purchased at a local retailer? (I'd love to see this, it would give visibility to all the EU partners in retail space.) What decays when you're dancing for MA to get a cut?
Perhaps I am if I can't make sense of their business model. Meh, It's all good, I just can't see how it's gooing to make money for MA, the Jacksons, or the charities the PR mentions.
First of all, it's going to bring a lot, and i mean A LOT of people in our universe. Even if they are on the other side of the system and as MA said, without us being forced to see their globals etc on chat, they'll still bring in either Michael's fans, or people that are just curious. And keep in mind, that MJ's fanbase is mostly people in their 30's that tend to have a few more money than teenagers. And if they go towards the social aspect, expect a LOT of money into clothing... At the same time, it is favorable with the current proceedings at California and with many people seeking to take violence out of games, making it a parent's choice for his/hers childs MMO. And don't forget that from that number of people that will come, many will decide to explore the universe. Maybe officially, by paying MA's 40Ped fee each way, or by the not uncommon path of new avatars. And every little penny that goes into MA's pockets stabilises the company, insuring our Money, maybe even contributing a little bit to the loot pool. So yes, i can see a few ways for them to make money... P.S. SEE said that this is only one of the theme parks they have in mind. Wonder what will come next...
It's actually kind of funny that this planets gets more publicity as FPC/RT, even before it's released.
