Tutorial – how to make a planet || Black Hawk view

  1. Failed attempts are at all skill levels. MA introduced a lot higher variance. This is the fact that I pointed out long time ago. IMO this is unfair and it smells too much as a scam, because it turns it all more and more into gambling. And you are right, because of the huge variance, skills seem not to matter. But they do. The problem is that you can have 1-2 months with tons of fails, and then you have 2 days when all you do is a success. And in average is about the same as it used to. Trouble is, many quit before those few good days. But MA gets all the dead money in the pot, because many just take long breaks, without taking any money out. So from financial point of view, MA wins. I am not so sure a PP will gain anything out of this tho. Since MA keeps the money and it pays only for the costs to play and decay of the players. So when more PP's will be here, I expect they will ask MA to change back the loot system to lower variance. Simply because the only party that benefits from this style of randomization is MA and no one else.

Nice discussion indeed and not much to add other then I think that a lot of the systems we have right now are very outdated. Skills as mentioned are nothing near some of the games out there have, sure we have a lot of them, but like Peter and Lykke said it would be nice if they actually do more then just make you able to hunt bigger mobs or craft better stuff.

Example: I was playing Deus Ex where you can hack into a door keypads to open it, but it has different levels and you can't hack a level 5 pad if you are just level 1. Stuff like that could be possible with instances in EU as well. You can try to hack the lock only if you have 1500 computer skills, not saying you will succeed and if you fail, come back in an hour and try again.

Same with hunting it feels very 2002. Dumb mobs running to you the same time every time and keep attacking you from the front so you can easily kill them or not, but it is always the same.

Missions to, the most fun mission I ever did was the Monomyth one made by Narfi, sure it did not bring much decay for MA, but I'm sure they can think of something to get some money in return for me having hours of fun (do I dare to say, maybe you need to buy a ticked to participate in an event like that).

So in general I think that the only way to maintain a planet is for keep updating stuff and make if fit the time you are in and add new technology when it becomes available. We have a nice Dutch saying "stilstand is achteruitgang" loosely translated to "if you don't progress you'll regress"

From what we have heard from both Kim and David they are working to make some of the things I mentioned possible (triggers and different creature AI).

In RCE environment PP should also pay attention to levels of trust and loyalty among their customers.
There is already enough bad examples of what not to do.
