PLANET CALYPSO VERSION UPDATE 10.3 2009-11-18 ***PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT IF YOU FIND SOMETHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY IN PLANET CALYPSO! IT MIGHT PROVIDE THE INFO YOU NEED BEFORE CONTACTING THE SUPPORT DEPARTMENT!*** RESETTLEMENT UPDATE Imperial Zoological Scouts have noticed further evolution of the fauna of Calypso: several of the creatures have developed new noises. Scientists believe that this may be from selective pressure from colonist hunting activities. As creatures producing ordinary noises attracted more attention from hunters, individuals producing dissimilar noises gained evolutionary advantage, and now dominate the population. The Billgren Deer mall has been rebuilt but is not yet open to the public. A formal re-opening ceremony will be held in the near future; time and date for this will be announced. Finally, Crystal Palace Space Station is back. Having served as a refugee camp for the thousands of colonists evacuated in the World-Fire, Crystal Palace have been extensively refurbished, and almost three months on the day after the Resettlement began, the space station is again open to the public! Please note that auctioneers have not yet arrived to Crystal Palace, so the auction service is not available there. Transport to and from the space station will be serviced by the temporary interplanetary teleporter service. A one way ticket is 25 PED. NOTE: this is a temporary solution. There is an unknown fault in the Oyster Island teleporter, making it impossible to teleport there. Technicians are on route to fix the problem. The problem is not caused by sabotage from Wastelanders. Please remain calm. What does that mean? Some creatures now have new noises and gained special abilities? Because Hangars are not re-installed "yet" I ask to myself .... Will the TP fee for CPSS be splited with the pilots same as with CND TP fee? And because the TP fee is now 25 Peds instead of 10 Peds as before, does that mean the distance Calypso <---> CPSS is increased and it will cost more Oil and decay? Only MA can answer this but I wanted to shared my questions. .
no. I can answer this , thank you. New sounds duhh this update was told to be the sound update Also money will be split to pilots when hangars will return
There is a auctioneer at CP under ground that can be accessed but I been told there is now a transport fee from and to CP just like CND in auctions..I hope its a bug or that is a huge nerf compared to before. Interesting about the encryction now though after adding some of the new planet stuff. I guess they didnt like Frescoquda and Letomie textures and attack pattern posted in public on ER months before 1st dna part was found and like 8-10months before 1st spawn was made ingame

The update installs a folder called DNA into c:\windows\Program Files\ The btdna.exe then launches every time you boot up, and downloads/uploads data from your computer. First thing I did was to delete the DNA folder and contents.
Well spotted and thanks for sharing! Although I used the regular download from server so no DNA folder for me luckily.
The file appeared as part of my selecting to use the torrent option for downloading the update. As Una says, a good way to avoid this issue is simply not to select the torrent option. I guess if you regularly use torrents software then you will already have this file installed and may want to leave it intact so that your torrent software will continue to work. Bunny noticed the problem today when she switched on the computer, the computer was uploading and downloading data continually. There was no way of knowing what data was being shared. Possibly the computer was simply sharing the new VU patch data to other people who are trying to download the patch, but who knows. Also, if you were on an internet plan whereby your uploads count toward your monthly quota, then this could exceed your quota amount very quickly without your knowledge or permission. Info found at http://forums.techarena.in/networking-security/1180689.htm says, "btdna.exe is the BitTorrent peer-to-peer content distribution network. It uses excessive system and memory resources with no corresponding benefit." "Here are some behavior found of btdna.exe;- Automatically changes your firewall settings to allow itself or other programs to communicate over the internet Registers a Dynamic Link Library File Adds a Registry Key (RUN) to auto start Programs on system start up Can communicate with other computers using TCP protocols Opens browser pop ups The Process is packed and/or encrypted using a software packing process This Process Deletes Other Processes From Disk This process creates other processes on disk Executes a Process Writes to another Process's Virtual Memory (Process Hijacking) Creates a TCP port which listens and is available for communication initiated by other computers Uses DNS to retrieve the IP address for web sites Adds products to the system registry Executes Processes stored in Temporary Folders Can communicate with other computer systems using HTTP protocols This Process sends MIME Email Changes to the file command map within the registry" This info from http://www.file.net/process/btdna.exe.html "btdna.exe is located in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files" or sometimes in a subfolder of the "My Files" folder. It is a file without information about the maker of this file. The file is a Verisign signed file. btdna.exe is digitally signed. It is not a Windows system file. The program is not visible. The application starts upon Windows startup. The application listens for or sends data on open ports to LAN or Internet. btdna.exe is able to record inputs, monitor applications. " To remove the file, http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t589396-btdna-exe-bittorrent.html "First you will need to open your taskbar (Control/ALT/Delete and select the Processes tab) and locate the process for program "btdna.exe" as it will be running. Next click on it and terminate the process then exit the taskbar. Locate your "RUN" command (check in accessories) In the "Open:" area type: "C:\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe" /UNINSTALL & Click OK. " After that, browse to the Program Files folder and delete the DNA folder. I don't think it is a virus or anything like that, but still it does install and operate in a sneaky way, and personally I prefer not to have software that auto runs and auto uploads/downloads unknown data to unknown locations. :D
It sounds like, trouble waiting to happen with the ports opened for useage by that much communication that is not monitored by my fire wall. even though i have port monitoring and stealth mode turned on. Someone will find a way to use it for evil. good to know thank you for the info.
Thanks Burger. I think MA need to rethink their choice of BitTorrent client, and offer more choices in terms of seeding.
