Well a long long time ago in a game far far away avatars could gain skills fapping themselves in acid pools!

To expand:

Following the initial power station detonations brought about by the Base Matrix attack from Akbal/Cimi. Not everyone could be rescued. The fall out killed hundreds however those that survived mutated. Eventually there were two main groups of mutants. The Umbranoids and the Calumasoids. The Calu were more far gone with grotesque spike-like protrusions and deformities. These poor souls inhabited the radioactive wastelands of pvp 3. The Umbras still maintained some level of civilisation living in small villages with rudimentary wood huts, towers and fortifications. While remaining largely humanoid the Umbra developed a hard calloused skin and are bald. Initially they wore clothes but then abandoned these as their paranoia/hatred of humankind advanced. Umbras carried small energy blades in the early days but then one day the Umbranoids were no more.

Speculation ran wild as to why or what had happened to them. Suspicion falling largely on the large black orbs that appeared all across Calypso at the time. They eventually returned however although this time sporting rudimentary rags to cover their reproductive organs as well as being armed with firearms and utilising harness's.

The Umbranoid's days were later numbered once again when they mysteriously vanished along with their villages and any sign of their existence during the time of the War Typhon impact. They have yet to be seen since with the only word from authorities being that "they are missing a code". This fate has also befallen the unfortunate Calu additionally.
