@admin: please do not move to Cyrene forum, as I would like to hear comments from ppl that love other planets too. @all: Check the video, if yo haven't seen Planet Cyrene yet, it shows a lot different scenes. Please discuss: I personally think, Cyrene is not really different from Arkadia, it could be just a new continent with different mobs (except the PVP system). What do you think? >
I actually think Planet Arkadia is a more fun and beautiful place to mine on (plus I find mobs everywhere on Planet Cyrene), but Planet Cyrene truly shows its potential with the details of Janus and its Roman architecture. It also shows its potential with ideas about players' affecting the future of the planet, however much I personally believe one should be able to affect it on an individual level too, rather than make it a coincidence for how the biggest percentage of the player base choose to act. I am sure Planet Cyrene has a future, but with the soft launch we have yet to see what will make it "different" and stand out like a supernova among stars. I would also like a political system to be implemented ... but that's probably just because I want to take over the planet and name myself Divide Impera Augustus Caesar of the Julii.
Things that are different on Planet Cyrene are the mob- and weapon-effects. They are truly great. It's not longer about clicking "auto use"-tool when they run around you. This makes hunting more fun and innovative and hopefully they will move it even further to something equaling FPS.
I saw your video now. Well, first of all, it's Roman architecture. Now, one might argue that the Romans found inspiration in the Greeks, but really it's irrelevant. Janus is inspired by Ancient Rome. I personally find the city to be the greatest part. I don't understand how you can look at PA and then say that Janus would be empty. The only difference is that we can actually see from one end to the other in Janus, unlike in PA. Ed has also stated that we won't see the full glory of Janus until full release, so I expect something new to arrive. I hope the textures of many things within the city will be replaced, as well as I hope for something beautiful within the arena (perhaps a pvp-place like the one in Twin Peaks?). I really don't understand your critique on Janus. I personally haven't seen such great architecture in Entropia Universe prior to the release of Planet Cyrene. This is eye-candy. Yes, this is half-naked Las Vegas-girls kinda eye-candy.
Nice video, Smoerble. I think you overlooked that Janus is supposed to be a central location on Cyrene. From the Entropia Times: I'm guessing that Janus will see a lot of NPCs and probably even a few of the epic mission starting points. It probably has been emptied for the duration of the soft launch, and will be revamped and filled for the hard launch :)
Yes, the AI of the mobs there are great! You get so much into it some times you forget to look around to see that one lone mob is pulling you back into the group. Edit: BTW, the video is private and can't be viewed
Indeed. Just something small as a mob-effect representing the creature's specific damage type or the creature bleeding when struck are both small things that takes the hunting profession to the next level of entertainment.
From other discussions I learned, that I didn't state clearly enough, that I personally LVE the animations of the Mobs (really professional work and not copy-pasta :)). Also ofc it's great, that we see a lot different mobs. And I personally don't see any issue in loot balancing etc, because it's a soft launch. I am refering mostly to the landscape (Looks very similar to Calypso and especially Arkadia). An Alien planet could have been way more different. My complains about Janus is, that even with 50 Avatars in radar, it will feel empty. Just because it's bad designed. A) the sizes of the buildings are way too high, exactly the same mistake that MA did years ago with all buildings. If you are inside a building, it does feel empty, because it's bad scaled. It might be realistic or not, but still this is a game, and the architecture does not reflect the Feeling you get while using it. You will not find any successful game, that has buildings and Areas with this scale, and there is a reason for this. B) The design for the stairs etc is also not well done, again I refer to all successful other games. Typically you never make stairs that are so long, so high and can be seen over such a long distance. If you have big cities, most of the time, you don't have such big alleys, because you are unable to fill them with life. Differences are games like Prototype or GTA, where you have more NPCs than you can count, but their game engine cannot bring the detail we see in EU, so you cannot compare this. If you are correct, and they place 50 NPCs with missions in this city, then we would see a lot ppl there. But the Servers can handle only 200 at a time, if I am not mistaken… But back on topic… I didn't want to dicsuss "Level design" :). I feel sorry, that Cyrene has no unique Feeling when you are out in the fields… I was hoping for more difference here. I bet, if you mix landscape photos from Arkadia and Cyrene, most Players will not easy tell, which is from where. But if you mix it with Content from other games, you could. // Edit: New Video uploaded: >
