Hi all I wanted to start to contribute to the wiki and started with a weapon entry for Cyrene: http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Item:Imperium_Issue_HK_720_(L) So the page looks ok to me. I used the following page as a kind of code template: http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Item:Ancient_Red_Scorpion Now what i don't understand is why the Ancient Red Scorpion does show up on the Cyrene Weapon Page, but my newly added Imperium Issue HK 720 doesn't. Do i have to add the Weapon also manualy to this page? http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Planet_Cyrene_Weapons Sorry for bothering, but i can't figure out how to proceed and i really want to add more info for Cyrene. This time i visited that planet it realy got me hooked and i want to help that place. And i think with adding info to your nice wiki could be a start. (I love stats and info sites ;-) ) Cheers Lak!
Thank you very much for helping and reporting. The weapon was not appearing on the Plant Cyrene Weapons page because you saw a cached version of that page. You can very easily purge the cache of a page by clicking the clock in top right edge of the wiki. A general note: We are currently working on improving the forms and templates to document weapons, errors, disruptions and strange behaviour might occur but in the end everything will be much better. EDIT: Just added the preliminary weapons form and a refresh link at the top of http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Planet_Cyrene_Weapons EDIT2: Improved the preliminary query, a few more weapons now appear on the page now.
Hi Tass Thank you for the quick reply :) Happy that in general i did it right. Now i need to use it more to get faster in updating information. Is the caching on the server side and only one person has to refresh the pages that are affected from the changes? Greetz Lak
Yep. And they only need to be refreshed when they display data from another page, fx weapons chart displaying data from individual weapons pages. They are also auto-refreshed whithin a short time after the changes on other pages, latest within 24h. If I understand correctly you copied the template from http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Item:Ancient_Red_Scorpion, added it to the new page and customized the content. That's perfectly doable but the easier way is definitely the new form: "Edit with form" on weapons pages or "Add weapon" on weapons chart pages. Try it ;)
Hi Lakarin and thanx for helping out, we need more people like you ! Like Tass said adding a weapon with the form is much easier. I think that form can be used for all types of weapons, there are just a few unneeded fields (like ammo type, for swords), so just leave them blank. If there is any field missing or you run into any issues, let us know and we will fix it. Again thanx for the help !

I will try my best Something else that confuses me: There seems to be 2 standard forms for weapons: Weapon_New : http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Item:S.I._Assault_Pistol weapon_SMW : http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Item:Ancient_Red_Scorpion In the weapon_new template, there are more fields to edit and the layout is nicer imho. But there's no field 'destination' but 'origin... So can i use either of both templates? Which one is better? PS: i have no problem working without the form, in fact i like editing in plain text Thx for your help guys
Hi, me again The column 'Uses/Min.' doesn't work correctly. I entered the 'delay' property on the http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Item:Zekkonian_Short_Sword_Alpha_(L) page (seems is formatted in milliseconds?). But that doesn't help. I also tried to enter a "UsePerMinute=44" value manually. Didn't work neither. I'm looking into templates and properties for SMW atm, but i don't understand it fully right now... Anyway i just try it on my own created pages and see where i get. Greetz Lak
I'm under the impression you have some wiki experience, right? As I said, the weapons docu is being worked on. Currently I don't have the time to look into issues, probably later tonight (EU time). We have to merged the 2 forms/templates somehow and look into specific issues. Recently we found out that weapons have in fact a delay property that is measured in milliseconds, could be that the uses/min property is broken currently as we migrate to the new concept.
Ok then i let you work out how to merge the categories. As for your question, no i don't have wiki experience but im a programmer and i looked into the wiki help ;-)
Great, so basically you have a better understanding of how stuff works than I have. Tomorrow you'll be the one to be asked the questions. If you like it really hardcore you can write csv files and import them (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Data_Transfer#Importing_data) ;)
I'll look into the CSV upload in the coming days. About the programming, i'm actually not a web programer, but more specialized in a specific programing language for a certain ERP software. But it still helps a bit in this matter as well
Import csv is pretty cool indeed and I used it to get all the new Arkadia weapons in the wiki. We have seen a few things go wrong as well, so be careful :-) So programming, what specific language are we talking about here? Oh we started to review the weapon page thingy today, changed some things around and edited some other things. We should soon have just one template and form for weapons.
Of course SAP is the first that comes to my mind. Ok, so we are going with Form:Weapon calling Template:Weapon and preloading Weapon Default Page on save of a new page, resulting in something like Item:Imperium Pilot Scoprion Rank 13 (L), as you know ;). All items will be in Category:Items and all Weapons in Category:Weapons. At some point we probably need to manually migrate existing pages from the old to the new layout... old ones in Category:Weapons_OLD. Everything work in progress, we'll have more things like cascaded categories, basic filtering, "multi-faceted browsing" and most important: much more beautiful weapon pages.
Hi again You two are fast. The new form looks good, i like it. And yes, its SAP So we're talking about the ABAP programming language. I used to code in Java C++ a bit as well, but thats years ago. Nowadays i would have to start from scratch to get into those again... Razor i'll be carefull when using the CSV upload. Doing it just page by page first ofc and get the hang of it. I hope i have the time to get into the wiki functions in more depth, so that i am a real help for you and not a pain in the a.. Just let me now when you need some raw manpower to manually change existing pages.
