USD 33,196 - New Loot All Time High in Entropia Universe

Discussion in 'Entropia News' started by EntropiaPlanets, Oct 4, 2013.

  1. Today Entropia Universe player "Alan Krom Alan" got loot worth USD 33,196 from killing a single creature (Mulmum Looter Elite) - which is a new all time high. The market value of the received items should even be a little higher. Gratz!

    UPDATE: Official press release:
Player loots $33,000 in one hunt on Planet Calypso

Gothenburg, Sweden - October 16, 2013 /Planet Calypso/ - Planet Calypso AB, operator of the longest established planet in the largest Massively Multiplayer Online Real Cash Economy (MMORCE), announced today that a player has just earned over $33,000 by bringing down one of the toughest monsters in the game. Alan Akram of Norway was playing on October 5 th when he achieved this epic Hall of Fame win.
"I was hunting around Fort Troy on Planet Calypso when I came upon a Mulmun Looter Elite. I was definitely trying to take down a creature above my level but I had good weapons, armor and friends," said Alan Akram. "Luckily my cousin had mentored me for fights like this and I had a guardian angel healing me during the battle. I am stunned as I never expected a jackpot this massive and will definitely be playing this game for a long time."

Mr. Akram, better known in the game by his avatar name "Alan Krom" has only been playing for 9 months and this is his largest loot to date. He flew to the hunting grounds in his Quad-Wing Interceptor and then stalked the creature on the ground. His primary weapon in the hunt was a DOA Strikehammer, and he received supportive healing from Karine Rikane. While it takes skill and planning to take down any creature in the game, the loot system on Planet Calypso incorporates many factors including the toughness of the prey, avatar skills, equipment, and several incidental elements. Large loots such as this one do not affect other players' chances, and thus are always possible within the Entropia Universe system.

This is what I wrote in a post in someone's thread about this event

    My thoughts on the ATH
    ...
    • who is Alan Krom, really
    • he's been playing EU for 9 months
    • he joined the Calypso Forum on 9/26/13
    • there is no detailed information about him
    • did he deposit a huge amt of money to have the equipment and skills as a young (short-term) avatar to battle Mulmun Looter Elite
    • is he an alt avatar of a more well-known player, or an old player
    • was funding provided by an original avatar (PEDs, skills, and equipment) - (or the following)
    • is he an MA or PP incognito (secret) avatar, but then secret avatars can't withdraw more than what they deposit, nor have an avatar value of more than 5k PED
    • secret avatars can join societies, as long as they don't give away who they are - (he may be a freelancer now, not sure, but think he was a member of a society)
    • prior to the ATH he was selling his UL items with a starting bid of 33K PED - 5 of his 8 posts at PCF are bumps of that thread
    • secret avatars can't trade or purchase high-end or unique items for gain or to affect the economy, so maybe my first theory was more accurate as speculation
    • there was a long period of crap loot with plenty of evidence of such across multiple forums
    • we've had bugs forever, and just had the worst update ever, everything isn't fixed either
    • MA needs revenue - castle was sold
    • big loots and sales in EU absolutely draws attention
    • wonder what the year-end sale will be, if anything
    • MA also needs positive (albeit masked) advertising and PR to draw new players
    • Monria is due to release soon, but MA is doing the development on that, so guess we'll see
    • the mini-PP/Marketing Agreement planetoids (for lack of a better term) is the new direction
    • there will be no more full-on planets (that plan certainly hasn't worked out as anyone expected)
    • there's another planetoid sitting in the wings, no name mentioning, will be interesting to see what actually happens with that one
    • and why now with such a young (short-term) player would there be a 300+K loot ... it just really causes a disruption more than anything else, no matter how people are gratz'ing Alan, which I think I actually did (probably out of habit until I started checking things out)
No disrespect to Alan if he's for sure legit, but knowing as much as I do, and seeing what I've seen that this community should absolutely be aware of, my skepticism is quite high - nope, very high.

Oh, and ... there are 113 (or more by now) replies to the thread Alan started at PCF and was actually at the forum less than an hour ago - he has yet to post any further replies.

I call PR motivation on this one (the news will get out) - it's already started with McC.

Here's an observation made by someone I'm pretty crazy about ...

This person's name is ---> Alan Krom Alan
This person's initials are ---> AKA

    Coincidence?

Also, I noticed that his last visit to PCF was at 5:50pm game time today (Sat/Oct 5th), and he has made no other posts in the thread he started yesterday that has 120 or more replies, and 327 or more Gratz's.

Sorry, but this just isn't adding up for me.

Mindstar can you summarise? Is there a conclusion or suspicion from all those observations? I wasn't sure what you were getting at exactly other than you seem to think something fishy is going on.

Sorry if my postings were confusing, certainly wasn't an intention. The bottom-line for me is ... this ATH doesn't add up to just your ordinary player getting lucky after 9 months of game play after looking at all the information available surrounding it, as well as what I know to exist that perhaps the general community doesn't, and maybe it's not fair of me to make such statements that end up being confusing, so my apologies.

The math gurus can spin it all they want to justify business as usual, but I'm not buying it.

Hope that basically sums it up for you Wistrel, and sorry again for the confusion, there was a big discussion going on at FB about this that ended up in quite a bit of fun branching off into other tangents, and I believe I ended up making some new friends in the process - it was quite entertaining - the best fun I've had on FB so far, and the posts are over 250.

An MS9 fan (not) was being his usual dick self and being rude to a few people, so that's where I jumped in and threw the first well-deserved punch because I knew we weren't at PCF and this time we wouldn't get edited, deleted, or censored in some way. Heywood and Tibike took this person on and had me laughing senselessly for hours - I'm not kidding, it was that much fun.

Anyway ... I just think there is a lot more to this ATH that we don't know about, and that I'm highly suspicious of - nope, very suspicious of, so we'll see how it all plays out, because you don't need complicated math, or physics equations to add up the numbers - not for me anyway.

Hope all is well with you Wistrel.

Agree ... although, when I got my 81+K ATH on 4/2/08, it was all metal residue - no gems, no nothing else, not even a new BP, all metal residue... found that quite interesting too.

  11. Grats to the looter :)

Mindstar, all good maybe its just press, maybe its a newbie, it just shows the randomness of EU :)

  12. I always thought there are 2 aspects :

1.) randomness, which should be skill based. ;)

2.) invest high = loose/win high (which could be considered randomness aas well) :p

From my experience in 2008, crafting away 10k ped per night (over weeks), resulted into many globals and 2 ATHs for me at that time. It was a good time.(+-0) For a "long" time I always had a steady 36k PED on my card.(that wasnt really randomness to me then) One day I started a crafting "race" with Ogulak da Basher over several hours and I got scared to SEE, that 48 clicks on OA-101 in a row can be quite common if you just continue crafting. And it continued that way. It was the worst day ever in my whole PE history. I never had that before. (was that invest high = loose/win high(?)) I was down to around 19k PED and over the next weeks I unlocked "Blueprint comprehension" and read, that it is considered "an evil skill".
It was true, I lost all of the remaining 19k PEDs while crafting OA-101's within approx. 2 weeks.

Randomness ? I dont know. From my experience, you can loose 10k PED crafting in one single day now. No problem. But back then it felt that it lasted "a little longer".

Skill based randomness ? Lottery ticket ? Casino ? Its more like that...

But I dont complain, as I still play for free. But I can imagine how some of those "high depositors" feel sometimes...depositing even more, to be able to continue.

And I can imagine how it might feel, if "someone" loots 300k PED in one single loot with a bugged hitbox-update.

At McC (and others of course) ... after getting my 81+K ATH on 4/2/08, it all changed after that, and I too stopped all crafting activity within 2 weeks or so, as well as hunting and mining. Prior to that, I was doing really well, which is documented at PCF (the old EF), so I'm leaning toward McC's explanations here.

hey ms9. Sorry I was worried you may have misinterpreted my post of as criticism. I suspect from your reply you cautiously did. I really didn't mean it that way, it just felt like an episode of Colombo where the VCR tape ran out before he said, "just.... one more thing".

So yeh I wanted a conclusion. Probably having a "thick" day where I couldn't hold that in my head for some reason and wanted the picture book version ;) Anyhow it sounds like there isn't a specific theory, more a general, "lots of things don't add up so you smell a rat feel" right?

I'd be interested in seeing that thread on facebook if its linkable?

    Wistrel

PS Sorry to hear you lost so much MrMc that sucks.... reading stories like that... yeh makes me think I'll never graduate from my Basic Filter habbit...

Hey Wistrel ... I actually did not take it as a criticism at all, but I do realize that at times when I'm all over the map, it's difficult for some to follow - I think it was a day of rambling for me.

So basically yes, there's too much that doesn't add up for this ATH to be "dynamically" random for me, and btw ... I like how you responded - it made me smile.

With regard to a link at FB ... I'm not sure how to really do that with pure text posting, other than give you the link of the group where the discussions took place - Paulo Manique Santos started a couple of them, including the second one that sits at the top of the page, which has about 92 or so posts already, but the main discussion thread I was talking about is a little further down on the page and has about 254 posts or more and was quite entertaining, even though we got off track.

Here's the FB group page ...

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/2232166655/

If you're not a member of that "Entropia Universe" group, then apply and I'll add you, I have enough credits to do that - or at least I did yesterday to add a couple of other people.

Thanks for your feedback, as always, and I will make a concerted effort to be more clear and tie the ends together so it's not confusing, or leaves anyone hanging.

What I find a little strange is this statement in the press release:

"Large loots such as this one do not affect other players' chances, and thus are always possible within the Entropia Universe system."

Does that mean it is not taken from the loot pool? Is it deducted from the income of MIndArk management? Or did I miss the "this ATH is sponsored by Coca Cola" part?

And then, yes, they are always possible, that's why it happened 3 or 4 times in the last 10 years already...

Well, I'm pretty sure (no proof of course) that loots like these are 'planned'.

Any idea what else happened or was going on just before that date ?
Was there any reason for MA to divert our attention ?

Will investigate this a bit later on, after I got some sleep :)
