Came across this one today and it looks pretty nice. To me it looks like something EU players could enjoy as it has, hunting , mining and crafting. They also talk about TAMED pets and I have seen vehicles on the website. I also seen housing and decorating them. Might be one to keep an eye on. http://www.therepopulation.com/ > Also crafting looks a bit more complicated then it does in EU, but lets you do pretty much anything. The video below shows how you make 'add-ons' for weapons, which increase the stats of the weapon so you can customize your weapons. >
haha yeh looks very PE esk :D I wonder if it will be like Afterworld, ie where I go there and find a shit load of Entropians already there :D
I like this, it seems really good. Some of the GUI's & the HUD is similar to EU but wondering how you pay to play ;)
As I read it they a have memberships to get a head start 23$ 50$ and 100$, the game is not live yet its Alpha and beta testers first I assume they will have a store to make purchases a bit like going to the local shop.
interesting. does it say what engine? I will look again.. Edit: Ok, its using the Hero Engine 2.... not sure about it, but there are alot of games that are using it. http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/01/the-repopulation-upgrades-to-hero-engine-2-0/
Signed up to it the other day and made a post on their forum... I was going to do a $50 membership, but haven't actually done that yet because I found out that it's still in alpha stage and just hovering on beta. What this means is there's by no means a guarantee that you can actually play/test the game even with a membership, but I'm sure that situation will change... --- Membership fees is o.c what's funding the project atm and is either via donations on kickstarter or by members on their site...
Hmmm looking very shiney now. I like the bit where they put down the buildings then walk inside them. MindArk eat your heart out ;)
oh oh have to keep an eye on this for sure. imho 50 bucks is something I could risk to invest .. is there any info if it will be rce?
woo hoo thats what I love about this forum (we can talk about what we like without being modded to death) Ok I have checked TheRePopulation site and it seems to be at about the same stage as ATD (aftertime diaries) - it appears to be a similar offering and Like ATd I will be happy to invest $50 once the beta is live. More importantly than this specific game or ATD is the reasoning behind there development in the first place, I think I know the answer. Entropia as a gaming model does have some excellent and unique characteristics, unfortunatley the issue with it is the cost to the player to keep the game going. In EU we have the hardcore investors, the budget players (like myself) and those who want to do it for free. The first two groups have to support the game play of the third group which is effectively free loading on the payments made by the first 2 groups. The problem with EU is affordability to play at your maxed level. I believe the developers of the 2 new games want to provide a game that has a RCE but is affordable to play. General consenus seems to be that $50 or £30 a month would be a fair price to pay for this style of game. How will the two new games resolve this issue and have a viable business model. I dont honestly believe MA has millions stashed away which means that most of the money we depo they spend to maintain and develop the game. These two new games seem to being developed by much smaller teams. Will they have enough resources to maintain let alone develop the projects. MA has 10 years experience in this field and whilst they are not perfect they have a greater knowledge of the model than any one starting a new project. Remember that Eu is not modelled as a game but more as an interactive graphic casino. How many players will the new games need to attract if they make it playable for $50 a month and how many freeloaders will the players also have to finance. quick maths lets say a player depos $500 a year. So to generate an annual revenue stream of $5,000,0000 you need 100,000 active monthly depoers. We all know that EU has no way near that many active depoers maybe only 10% of that, that drops the revenue stream to $500,000. You cannot run a game like this on that sort of income, as an example I ran a bar for 10 years with an income well in excess of £500,000 yet it could only provide a living for my family and part time employment for about 10 others. So I am confused as to how a viable business model can be develpoed unless it attracts the sort of player number that WOW LOL and EVE attract. Please feel free to comment agree or disagree
