We wanted to promote the forum with all the new people coming into the game now! So I spent 200 peds on an advertising in game for this purpose, choosing a nice picture, the woman holding a planet (which fits perfectly for us :) ) - and a black text ... Now this is what I see on a medium solution: And now I just ask you - is this REALLY worth the money?? What about all the people who can barely run it on low! Also, this looks better than the system does when I was standing in front of the advertising mashine I could see nothing!!! Meh ... :( What a waste! I hope most of the newbies have super pc's with super graphic cards!
This is deffinitelly one for the support dept. And if youre at a good streak for globies and Hofs, I can also understand your reluctance to contact em for whatever reasons.
humm. doesn't look so good ... In the past the screens i think worked well to a point.... I for one see in near B&W in the game so it all looks pretty poor to me compared to other games now. Content and a sense of belonging to a group works - both take time - EF has the content - I love to have a chat in PM Lykke - maybe a part soln to it is to look in different places for limelight - I'm sure you have loads of ideas and know lots of avenues to pursue... Will chat in pm soon of one idea / avenue.... Throwing peds at the screens is expensive... Mf
Thanks MF :) Look forward to it! And I wrote support. Dunno if they can do anything about it - but it's just a shame for other people who also waste their money on it - and some maybe even more than my 200 ped :( Oh and about content, yes - we're missing that. But as a 4 month old only forum we can't expect much more than what we have now :) And personally I believe we already by now have some pretty nice things. I also believe that with a bigger community the content will be added naturally ... But then again, more content might attract more people so yes, it's kind of a circle going around!! New ideas are needed & welcome :)
Yes, throwing PEDs at an ad screen can be costly! Seriously though, the ad screen system is in a "just barely works" state, IMO. I've yet to see any properly working Bink video on the personal screens in Dragons Shadow HQ, or on the public screens. Previsouly extant ads look horrendous, and from what I'm seeing from Lykke, new ones have issues, also. I guess MA isn't putting much priority on it since the cash influx from Massive Entertainment is... well.. not massive.
What you should do is what some companies here in the USA does. They add a number after their real URL depending on which channel the commercial is on. Example could be FreePorn1.com for NBC and FreePorn2.com if its aired on ABC. They all redirect to the same mainsite but it allows the company to track where most hits come and if it was worth advertising on that channel
You have to pay for a new domain name for each option that way. Knuckles, how about: freeporn1.nbc.com freeporn2.nbc.com Would be under the same domain, just a matter of some redirects with your hosting provider or web server. This might work better for those on a tight budget.
Shouldn't less text result in a bigger font? No idea how ads work, just that you can only pic one of the pictures provided by MA - but i'd make simply and make these few words as big as possible. But i guess placing your avatar in PA (or TI atm) and spamming chat with the URL will have more effect and costs less... it's just the "up" key and "Enter" every xx seconds... heck, for 200 bucks you can hire 20 noobs shouting that for hours wherever they go.
When I have made ads in the past I just use black background and huge text, scrolling if needed, in white or green. I never read those ads with a lot of text myself so I assume others don't do it either... There were some cool ones made for the shop competition. Can't remember the shop now but it was an entire film that was pretty cool... I made a beach with rolling waves myself (ingame footage) which turned out ok. The problem is that you need to use a certain framerate and dimension for the film and it takes lots of trial and error + peds before you get it right...
I've seen it ingame last night and the white back was so overwhelmingly bright that i couldn't read anything but the first line - and even that made my eyes hurt. I think MA should refund the money (after all THEY made that white background glow like it's radioactive or something), an ad like this is USELESS. Don't even know how you made the screenie above, for me it looked way more like an LSD trip.
wouldnt it be cheaper to ask ppl to hunt with team name like "entropiaplanets.com" and give them 30 ped for each hof? or say 20, would pay 10 hofs :P but the ad screens i rarely watch, for sure not use but maybe its jsut me
Believe it or not, I saw that ad today and pretty much reminded me. Glad you had it up. I didn't even have to go through my emails to link me to this site cause of that ad :D
It's still an issue. For the H-Day event, I had hoped to use some different background and text combinations to break up the monotony a bit, bit there seem to only be a few text colors that work nicey with a given background, and the backgrounds with varying brightness are problematic. Hope they eventually get around to doing something on this. :(
I don't have you on friend list in game, and have never met you in game, but really like this place and own a shop and booth in game. If you want to put PC on a sign and have me hang it in the shop, look me up in game sometime. Suggest you do something similar with other shop owners. Actually, I know for a fact that Dendri, the guy behind entropiabay doe something very similar to that with a lot of shop owners in game. He lists stuff in their shops on his site, updating it himself, and in return they put his sign on their estates.... maybe set up something like that with the banner ads here? And, yep, I agree the ad terminals are complete waste of money. Think the malls may even still have them in mirror view so it's all backwards too.
In my opinion this forum has most potential of all current EU related forums since you cover all planets. Therefore advertising doesn't hurt. Getting people to register would be nice as most seems to lurk unregistered. Now go and get registered you lazy lurkers! :p
