A ok, thanks for your help. There is a land line about 150 miles from my house... :P dont think ill be using it. Roumer is that fiber-optics will be strung here in the next 5 years, but im not holding my breath.

Afterworld is now in the process of being updated to Alpha World 9.9

The next update will be 10.0 Survival the commercial release world hopefully late this year or early next.

I will post more details on the update once completed later today :)

One of the main challenges we face with 9.9 is weight limits has been introduced.

Interesting times ahead, no more carrying tonnes of goods in your back pocket.

Update: Servers are now back online

We are entering the phase of closed testing of the Alpha 9.9 patch.

This is a major rewrite of the whole inventory and storage system, more than 70% of the whole game code/logic has been re-done, and we're running a new database on new powerful servers. This is why it took so long. But it's worth it.

Another reason of development "slowdown" (hey, it's only looking like slowdown!) is because most of our team is working on AfterWorld Survival, and only selected developers are still with Alpha 9.9.

The new inventory routine brings a lot of benefits to us (easier management of the database and game itself) and to you (more functionality with greater performance). No more slowdowns while opening storage and crafting. This new inventory is developed in a such way that it is compatible with Alpha and Survival at the same time.

The first time you open the storage you will still need to wait for some time (still goes quicker than with the previous version), but next time you access the storage (via storage or craft terminal) it will open within a few seconds.

And of course, Alpha 9.9 will include a lot of bugfixes and useful additions here and there.

As you may have noticed on the screenshots, we have implemented support for exporting data from inventories and storages.

Here are examples of exported XML files for those of you who plan to use this feature:

Private_inventory_Inventory_20100531.xml ( 12.58K ) Number of downloads: 57

Private_storage_Sar_UG_20100531.xml ( 7.29K ) Number of downloads: 37

Weight implementation is coming together with this update, but the actual limitation will be enabled further down the road so everyone will have a chance to clean up inventory.

Due to the major rework of the game we need to do heavy and detailed testing.

Over the next two weeks selected players will receive an email from support with instructions on how to join testing of Alpha 9.9.

P.S. News on the AfterWorld Survival is coming later as soon as our design team decides to share their work with everyone.

Well, the AW: Survival tech demo is out and it's a little incomplete. I have not visited it but I hear that you cannot enter buildings yet.

I remain hopeful about the future of Afterworld.

Hi Epicahab,

Yes the tech demo for Survival's engine and platform is out atm using the old game graphics and facilities with some corporation terminals added.
It is more of a play around and see for testers of AW to find out what issues there are before Survival is released in the future.

I looked at AW years ago when I first heard about it. I did`nt dowload or play though. I just can`t help thinking it`s just a tool of the Russian Mafia to cash in on the RCE craze. It would be ripe for exploit. I could be wrong...but I could be right. I think EU is enough for me. If I stop EU I don`t think I`ll go for more RCE games. After all they are there to make money not give it away.

If they release a legit way to deposit and withdraw, I'll accept it as a big player. And I'm sure there are people who use EU to launder, just think about it.

There is rumor of a TT for the future and withdrawl will come eventually.
At this stage it still in concept design phase, so yes, still a year or so I think personally :)

The new survival map look awesome, hexagonal seemless world.

Dear participants, we are very glad to see you staying with us and for your active support.
In development of AfterWorld Survival we are getting closer to the key moment and in order to make the launch of Survival easier, we decided to bring a new terminal in AfterWorld: Alpha World – Corporations.
With this new terminal it’s possible to create a new social group: corporations (it’s almost the same as societies). While the full functionality of corporations will be available only in AfterWorld Survival, you can already start planning your future business. For more detailed information on how corporations work, you can visit a special page on our Wiki: Corporations on AfterWiki.
Very soon, we will launch a public test of our new engine (which is used for AfterWorld Survival) – the Survival Tech-Demo. Access to Survival TD is totally free to every registered player of AfterWorld Alpha World with citizenship.
At the same time, we are preparing some new screenshots and video from the AfterWorld Survival which will be posted later, and for now we have decided to share our current WIP version of the map: AfterWorld Survival Map.

This is more a game I play in my break time from EU.
It is good for that since it is not the final product.

idk, each to their own really, this is good for when PED runs out imho.
AWD lasts a long time in AW, I am at 6k AWD and counting, only going up, down to create some armour, but always rising there which is a breath of fresh air to me :)
