I'm not yet sure if this is real or just a joke, but if it is for real then this year really will be an awesome one to be in EU.
WOW. You mean there will be STARS out the window? I hope it is not a joke. I wonder what a space craft will cost?
Looks like it is real after all. :D http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS105580+07-Jan-2008+BW20080107 "LAS VEGAS--(Business Wire)--Jon Jacobs aka NEVERDIE, entrepreneur and famous virtual world avatar within the Entropia Universe, will announce the first ever $5 million virtual world treasure hunt, Space Pirates, at CES 2008 from the MindArk Entertainment booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center in South Hall 2 #25321."
Yes I totally agree. I'm actually hoping that Neverdie might help elevate this one to be a better standard event than most of the previous events. Hopefully it won't just fizzle out and leave us with leftover pirate items to gather virtual dust alongside the orbs and atrox egg. :hehe:
Yes I've got mixed feeling about this. I like the idea of expanding the virtual universe into this 'elite' kind of realm. is this a permanent expansion or just a one-off event? Is there going to be the usual uber bias or is it REALLY going to be an 'anyone can win' kinda thing? It's going to be pretty interesting finding out!
wow i like this idea of it's real than this will be one great year for EU and i agree to phunksta if it's real than it will be interesting to find out
Well, I don't know why but I have the feeling that this will be for those who can affort. As most events. I think they where invented by MA to get the lower skilled ppl a chance, but they forgot to took into account the ubers. Oil Rig, Merry Mayhem,... . For Instance I tried yesterday the rig again. I observed it several hours from a safe distance. If one of the ubers had to log out, another one was appearing to keep the low skilled ppl away from the rig. Perhaps it would be an idea to take into account the overal skill of ppl for such kind of events. I played elite till my C64 was broken :) bad graphics but hell of a game. I agree that this would give EU a drive. What makes me nervous is that all these changes are announced by JJN or his team and not MA Not sure what I have to think about...
I checked a bit round the net. On Neverdies official site www.realityport.com nothing is to be seen about this topic, just a link to a thread in EF where people are wondering about. Furthermore I checked the domain www.neverdie.com. The Domain is registered to Golden Shadow pictures, which seems to be the company from Jon Jacobs. questions over questions...
Could be a tactic he's using to get MA to come on board with a new idea, testing for marketability, interest, capital investment, etc. If the product turns out to be as good as the hype, (cough, cough) it should be a damn good offering. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but as all software product releases, the starting product will not have all features. If the product gets released at all. But more will be added as upgrades are made. And MA loves upgrades and unannounced modifications. Don't they? It's also possible that MA won't take it and it will go elsewhere.
hmm It sounds pretty much like Neverdies regular PR stunts BUT this (space war\hunt) was actually one of MA early future ideas, along with weapons like tanks and other stuff we only see as ornamentation today So maybe...
If there will be a space hunt for 5 million dollars you can bet that all gamers in the world will sign up! That would mean with the current hardware setup of MA we would never be able to play because of extreme lag and dysfunction! That being said... Will only hangar owners benefit at this time? I doubt it! They will probably introduce space crafts that costs some 5k peds to fly around for an hour... Would I do it for a potential 5 million dollars? If I had the peds **** YEA! But I don´t have the peds so they can just keep they´re millions for now! /me hitchikes a ride to the stars
