Although luck does seem to play some part in loots, a lot of the people that find good loots have invested many. many hours into gaining their skills, learning to use their tools or weapons well, and finding locations where the loot might be hiding. Calypso is a place where time and patience is usually rewarded with better loots, so keep gaining skills and look forward to your good loots to come. :)
