Improving one's loot situation

  1. Not sure if this should go here or in the skills forum...

In trying to improve one's loot, how do you optimize your situation in trying to do this? Is it to do with understanding the EU economy and market forces better, or is it somehow matching skills to equipment more efficiently, or is it both. I've been trying to twig the skilling system for ages, so I'm just guessing here - thanks for any advice.:)

You deposit a crap load of money, buy a ton of ammo and keep shooting at stuff until you get something good...or not.

I believe there is no answer here. Simply put the only way to make "sure"* profit in EU is to gather sweat.

Another answer would be that if MA is in generous mood the loot is great, if not it is what it is now.

I haven't played EU for a long time now but I know that many have tried to learn the secrets of loot distribution. But I believe that since MA (a human factor) is tampering with the loot mechanism, nothing is certain or predictable.

Finally, I think Kets mentioned it perfectly. ;)

*= sure as long as they buy it from you

  4. To get bigger loots, just hunt bigger mobs...

However, I guess you mean how to profit? :) In my opinion it is all about hunting mobs that drop stuff with markup on a somewhat regular basis. Of course you can get lucky and hit a big HoF, but in the long run I do no think that anyone can profit in TT value only. Just like a casino, EU is designed so that the house wins in the end.

Then of course it is quite important to use equipment that match your skills and the mobs you are hunting (for example not using old school unlimited guns when you only have a hit ability of 2/10, and not wearing Ghost and 5b plates when hunting small Argonauts). Being smart in choosing equipment cuts a lot unnecessary costs.

ahhh, if only that were true.... hehe
Too many snablesnot and baby corns hofs have happened for my liking so far. lol

But yes, good advice from Una, especially regarding not using weapons or armour too far above your skills, otherwise you spend most/all of your loot just on repairs.

  6. Hehe, ofc I meant bigger loots in average ;) But yeah, those Snable HoFs sure are annoying when they appear. Worst so far is the 1.2k Igni HoF earlier this year. What do they cost to kill? 5 PEC? :)

  7. Oh it cost much more than that, if you include self respect in the price.

  8. Well, I'm also starting to think that it's down to depositing loads and down to MA tampering with the loot mechanism as well. As far as I can tell, I've been matching my skills to my equipment and rarely wear armour unless I'm taking on bigger mobs, but it seems that the longer I play EU, the harder it gets in terms of loot and skill increase.
I've tried sweating of course, but I've learned that the really professional sweaters at places like Nea's, use focus chips which cost a small fortune going by prices I've seen in the auction, but then this will eat into anything you make from selling the sweat, so I don't get it.

  9. here comes my :twocents:
Long time prrofit is not posible only from hunting, mining or crafting. It has to be combined with some sort of business.
And as in all business it wil take some investments to start it up.
In other words, you'l have to deposit a ¤%&load of $, maybe buy a shop(s) or start up some kind of business, then you need the skills and the time to support it.
So you need to risk alot of your money and play fulltime, then Maybe you get successfull. 8)

But my real advice to you would be, stop focusing on the profit.
Play the game as long as its fun and to the extent you can afford.

  10. Yep - thanks itto, that makes sense. You mean an in-world related business I take it? I have something that's in the pipeline tied in with an EU related website, so what would I do - ask MA; get MA involved? Is that the trick - MA wants to see that you're really commited to EU?
