A New Look for EUC for VU 10?

  1. I've been contemplating offering a new look EUC in honour of the upcoming VU 10.
There is quite a lot of graphical work involved in such a thing, so I was thinking of asking around you good people too see if anyone would be willing to help?

Basically the task is to create a new vBulletin 'skin' consisting of the graphical components that you see around the site every day; so generally a lot of Digital paint.
I'd like this all very much to be themed around the style of VU 10 and the look and feel of the new engine.

For anyone that really LOVES the current skin, I will always leave that available too!

    So is anyone game?

I don't have the skill to be of much help with graphics, but I think it is a great idea to have a new optional forum skin for VU10. :ok:

  3. I have no knowledge of vBulletin oriented pages, but have done some work on background images/skins as such for projects of my own using Dreamweaver which has a background option, so that's what I work with, so to speak, and I use simple M$-Paint for the backgrounds themselves as I don't have Photoshop.

I have very little CSS knowhow though, and my raw-html skill is very basic, so I mainly rely on Dreamweaver's WYSIWYG function. I do use the code-view but only when inserting JS, etc.

So what this means is, if I did a Print Screen of say EU-C's home page, I would know how to do a knew background based on this - I would paste it into Paint and use that as a guide/template. As for individual background images for cells containing the content, i.e. the first row of graphical-links at the top of every page, then I would need the raw html and CSS file/s that controls the layout, as again, I have little CSS knowledge. Dreamweaver does suport CSS, but I've never really used it. It's an earlier version of Dreamweaver (v4.0) which came out when CSS was still not yet mainstream, so that's my excuse
So, I'd like to help, but I would need the CSS. I did do a tester, by pasting the Page Source into Dreamweaver's code-view, but of course without the CSS-file/s, I was expecting gobbledygook, which is what I got when I switched to WYSIWYG-mode :D

  4. If when you went to www.eu-chronicle.com all it said was

    Error: Line 10

Would that not be in the spirit of things?

Only if you first had to download a bunch of files from 2005 just so you could enjoy the experience of seeing the error message. :hehe:

  6. That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. If you look around the site, the various buttons, fades, corners, ornaments, fonts etc. are what would change. The only 'large' graphic is the header.

Paint, photoshop, coreldraw or whetever is usually the way to go, making up little 'proofs' of each areas you see around the site.
I would then chop these up (gfx) or convert to CSS (corners, colours, fonts) to make a vbulletin skin. :yeah:

  7. Hmm yeah a VU 10 skin should maybe have at least a clay man feel to it?

  8. Ok, I've been having a go at some ideas - don't know what ppl will think...

The following link shows my first idea for a new background (not shown full-size; the original .PNG is full size)

The following link shows a second idea for a new background (not shown full-size; the original .PNG is full size)

This one shows an idea for the leading graphic on its own (nearly full size - the original .PNG is full size)

Very nice work there Nexus7. :ok:

The LeadingGrapicIdea1 looks very nice imho, and incorporates a nice mixture of VU10 locations.

  12. Some interesting ideas t here. The only problem with putting many landscape shots together in that way is that each has a different respective, and when viewed together they look a bit odd.
Maybe if several shots of different locations were taken, but with the same perspective, and blended into each other?

  13. Thanks everyone for the feedback... I don't have a blur or fading tool, which I knew beforehand, so for the first one, I came up with the idea of having a sea/sunset backdrop overlayed with two images on the left and on the right, with the lower part of the backdrop in the centre.
The second idea is just a simple water scene with just one overlay either side. Sorry if they're not that good, I just thought I'd have a go...:)

  14. On the contrary having a go is what it's all about! Get GIMP, it's free code has all the blur and merge features

  16. it's a great tool for free huh!
You seem to be having fun there. I like the planet images - that runs nicely with the new 'multi-planet' theme...

  17. It's really good! If you had to pay for something like this it would probably cost $/£100's. I could kick myself :Beaten:that I hadn't discovered it before, so thanks for telling me about it :) I'm refering to GIMP here.....

I was thinking very much of the new EU planets with this idea but was also mindful of the two opposing images in the current EuC header - so I thought that two cryengine 2 planet pics facing each other would be in-keeping with that also. The two oval's are meant to symbolize crystal spheres giving ppl a snapshot of the type of areas they will find once in EU.
