As I understand it the higher the TIR rate shown in the item window for the tier you are trying to achieve the higher the chance that any one hit will give a tier increase.

The more often a piece gets hit, the more often it gets to roll for the chance for a tier increase.

It is all random, but the numbers and chances affect the randomness.

I'm not sure there are mobs targetting specific parts of armour. I have similar issues tiering up my sets, with the feet typically being the last ones to move. Perhaps a PVP area and a friend with a gun willing to make your avatar dance?

I think it's quite logical that armor tiers up very slowly. Like others said, mobs can target different armor parts. Maybe the protection stats influence this too.
And keep in mind; mobs hit only around 20 times/minute, while your weapons can hit much more often. Mobs can also miss quite a few times if your evade is high enough.

Armour does tier up very slowly especially once you go above tier 1.

What may be usefull would be for us to record the decay on the different armour parts after a run.

I say this because different mobs are supposed to have a tendency to hit different parts of our body hence different armour parts. Once we know which mobs hit which parts more often then we could use that info to tier up our slower armour parts quicker.

I got my gremlin up to .9 relatively quickly doing the merp mission. I aggro 20+ youngs at a time, and they seem to hit shins, thighs, and harness fairly often.
This is sort of caveman method, but I think the frequency of hits might be more of a factor than being hit a few times by a big atrox. It is also ironic that as your evade gets higher it is harder to tier up armor (no proof on this but it "feels" right).

  7. No real way to tier all armor parts at the same time. I've got my vigi harness to tier .9 pretty quick but the helmet and the feet are .1 now and their tier rates were similar. I guess you could try only wearing the armor part you want to tier and hunting small mobs( daiki young for iron challenge?). that should limit the decay if you want to bring all parts to tier .9

  8. thanks for all the replys guys, did have a go at the merps last night but the only thing i managed to do was decay my paladin for 50 ped for not one tier increase!!! will have a try again tonight and note down all my decay on all parts and see if i can see which parts get hit the most
