Bayonets

  1. Posting on Arkadia's website the other day, I got to thinking... Something we need in game is a bayonet attachment to guns. We already have attachments like lasers and scopes, but don't have something that does actual close range damage like an old school bayonet. I think it'd be a neat addition to the game. The way it could work is that the bayonet would work like a melee weapon at close range and decay sort of like a knife. It could work in such a way that it would only "kick in" to start working as a melee weapon whent he mob you are aiming at is in close enough range. Up until that point the long range weapon would be used to shoot at the mob. This way you could get both shooting and melee related skills on the same mob without having to switch weapons, and the system could automatically know to switch to the different attack style automatically without you having to switch weapons and possibly have lag and tool not ready error messages that seem to happen a lot these days. Additionally, they could take this to a whole new level and direction too and create melee attachments (a promise from 2007 that was never realized yet) that work like long range weapons until the mob gets up close... Think about the staff type weapons on Stargate and stuff like that. Think about "laser swords" that actually shoot lasers til the mob is up close and personal, then you switch it for use in normal sword type combat maneuvers.

This sort of thing could be a godsend to the weapon attachment crafting profession (assuming MA does not do it's typical crap and make the looted stuff come out being better in stats then the crafted ones, lol - think a101 vs the e-amps)

They would be a godsend for those times when you run out of ammo on that last mob!

kinda like how the Warrior and Harbinger seemed to do both ranged and melee damage depending on their distance from you? interesting idea
