This is the next in a series of discussions about changing Entropia Universe as explained HERE. In short I wanna use this thread to discuss what we, the players, would change about things in Entropia Universe if we had the chance and money to do so. For this episode I wanna discuss: Buildings/Cities: These days there are not to many buildings anywhere and the ones we have are most of the time just generic buildings, the same all over a planet. They are most of the time just shells of a building with no real function. In the old days there were buildings all over Calypso, that had no use at all but had more variety. Whats better? Can we come up with a better idea for buildings? What can we do with them? Terrain/Flora: There is a wide variety of terrains on the planets but are they any good? Are the hills to steep, the forests to dense or is the deserts to sandy ? Points of interest: Are there enough? So, what would you do different, add or remove, anything goes.
OK! Desert Right well one thing that really gets me (and I saw a great example of it the other day but I forget where) is the situation with deserts/scrub land. In games and Entropia is one of them, the typical thing seems to be that a desert or low vegetation area is just an excuse to use a single texture and spread it over a large area and then maybe sprinkle a few plants and jobs- a-goodun. Except is isn't. The problem is you can get away with it so its done but it isn't right. Even if an area is a desert it should be as detailed as (or at least vaguely comparable) to the forest areas. Look at real world photo graphs, these places are anything but empty. I'd like to see this in game too. No plonking A general thing I'd like to see an end of is what I call "plonking". I mean just literally dropping something on a landscape. I don't know if the engine supports something like this or if there is a way to mod it but, well lets state an example. You drop a section of a ruin onto the ground. What would be nice is if it looked like it belonged there by somehow merging it with the floor. ie if its a sandy floor maybe there is a little bit of sand around the base of the ruin. As it is, most things literally cut into the landscape like a knife. Again, like the deserts, its "OK" but its not "great". Doors They never bloody well opened! Number of times I've been in an old settlement in entropia and gone to a door and found I can't enter it. This sort of access would be a great idea for a mission. Do x,y and z and the mysterious door at location Q opens. Worried people will go in with you? Fine, work the player experience around that so this is just a different (rather than invalid) way of doing things. Barriers Never include invisible barriers. If you didn't want someone to climb it then make it taller and steeper and so on. Frontiers and interactive landscape I really liked those bits in HtT that had earth quakes and fires and what not plus slippier areas. Then there were things that went BOOM occasionally. I'd love to see more of this sort of thing. I'd like to see areas that act as boundaries but not just invisible boundaries. Real Boundaries. An idea would be you are on a mission and therefore can enter an area. Those who aren't cannot, not cause of a rule but cause they actually get shot down or something. I'd rather be killed than walk into an invisible wall and face a silly text message. Years ago there was a "healing pond"? I think there is scope for some cool tactics if you were to have some interesting areas some that healed you and others that hurt you. How about an area you need to jump around on platforms to navigate or walk along a narrow ridge. It could happen! Space I want to fly round the planets, please fix. Additionally can we have navigable asteroids that we can fly around inside in 3d space? Port Atlantis Appartments where are they? Marco asked if people were interested, people said yes... what happened? (aside from Marco going oooOOOoooooOOOOoooo) Ruins I'd like to see these come back. What happened to all the war wreckages on Calypso? Sorry this is a little rough/brief - time was short Wistrel
Some great points there Wistrel and I agree with all of them. One other thing I would like is for buildings to have a purpose and not be all the same. In the past (pre VU10) there was a museum in Port Atlantis which displayed Calypso creatures, the museum in (forgot the name, but the place that also had the deer building). I could also see missions in buildings or PvP (close quarters combat) or even competitions 1-on-1 (get to the top of the building first to get the prize. Will think of some more stuff later on.
Buildings/Cities: Allow more participant changes in buildings, etc. Same darn wallpaper and ugly ass carpets piss long time owners off after a while. Can't tell you how sick I got of them when I owned a few places in Omegaton. Allow each item to be 'placed' on x,y, AND Z planes when placing them... If you OWN an apartment you should OWN the air in the apartment between the floor and ceiling... so you should be able to 'hang' stuff wherever the hell you wan in there instead of having to rely on bugs/glitches etc. to be able to do that sort of stuff... Oberon NightSeer and some other 'ninjas' can tell you about a few glitches here and there, but honestly, it's sad that we have to rely on those type of glitches to allow this stuff to happen. Using a 'televator dupe bug' is how I hung stuff in my apartment from time to time when I owned an apartment... had to do with the way the game engine works and how televators work... I think they fixed part of it, but it still probably works on certain items, etc. A lot of the tricks involve placing certain items that are affected by bugs/glitches and then stacking other stuff on them, and removing the original item on bottom of pile later... we shouldn't have to do that kinda crap just to 'hang' a lamp where it lights up an area we OWN the right way we like it to... add in a property panel in the interface that estate owners use to place items and give us x, y, and Z coords on it that we can tweak, etc. as we move mouse around looking at what works best where when arranging furniture interior designing, etc.... Similarly, add a 'place holder' in estates, especially in shops, where you can 'name' that location with a quick key, etc... This way shop owners can like restock the shelf easily by replacing what was just sold in the shop with similar thing in similar location by putting item x where item y was previously in the same 'place holder' or whatever you want to call it... makes arranging stuff a lot easier, especially on some shelving/furniture that is a pain to arrange stuff on (like finding exact right spot on a tron tower filled with blueprints, getting right camera angle to put item on a top shelf on a wally or whatever) Allow for more user uses in buildings, etc... Shopkeepers are all nice and swell, but why can't they be allowed to buy at a set rate and sell at a set rate... sort of similar to auction but without the ongoing costs in case isn't made available, etc... basically give the shops/shopkeeper owners ability to buy/sell at set rates and give participants a REASON to go to those shops to actually sell the stuff there, which in turn brings more life to the dead ghost towns that are the cities of Calypso... Factories anyone? Where are they?... FIX THE LAG ISSUES. Can't tell you how many buildings have gone invisible wall on me in the past... Annoying as heck, especially if you have hundreds or thousands of items in your inventory sitting in an estate in those invisible walled buildings, etc. Marco's not alone in breaking promises to estate owners... http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/f...ers-forgoten&p=2166285&viewfull=1#post2166285 Quite a bit about all of that back at http://www.entropiaforum.com/forum/ask-mindark/205386-booth-compensation.html#post2593854 Wasn't there a golf course on Entropia?... Where's the ability to play it in game? What about chess, etc.? What, a use of time in the server that someone might actually be able to have without spending a ton of ped - can't make that a priority can we? No plonking Actually, landscape design is kinda something Neverdie DID do right... or started to in some areas on Rocktropia, etc. Would be nice if actual level designers and artists that understand real world art would get behind the scenes on world developing in ALL of the planet's developments instead of just a few here and there and the rest being just thrown together by two bit hacks who are more businessy types who throw money at it and hope it all works out, etc. MA should create an actual class in real world architecture, art history, and game design that MUST be taken by any/all staff of would be planet partners BEFORE they are allowed to sign on any dotted lines, etc. Could even be something free like a MOOC and require a certain grade in it for passing or something... going to add more here shortly.
Some very interesting ideas there. Always thought the customization of apartments was lacking a lot, the wallpaper thing you mention was one of the things I was looking for when I bought my apartment. I think I talked about chess and other stuff in the Free-to-play piece of this series, but yeah that would be very welcome. MA still seems to think that free do do stuff will loose them mony, but I really think the oposite is true.
Gardening/Harvesting was planned since 2000 and got mentioned again in 2008. Then it left the universe. Taming or Fishing anyone ? The building and combining of so called "platforms" should have enabled participants to built whole continents. (old textfiles from 2000) Never happened. Of course some hills are to steep, ofc the new Hadesheim forest will never reach the coolness of the old forest...in short, the overall design of todays world got f*cked. While we had an lovely designed immersive future-fantasy-world with many points of interest, todays Entropia got flooded with FarCry beaches and pieces of sh!t. (no, not dung) This will never change again. I promise. The inworld design has been discussed gazzillion times. It all started around 2005/2006, when Port Atlantis got additional "Marco's Birthday Party Buildings" and those ugly Tron Tanks...then everything design related became worse. Noone listened to the community. I mean, whole towns turned into shopcontainers in todays world (even without the animated text on top)..."Service Center Deluxe" ftw ! Various announcements of improvements have been made...and never became real. Noone listened to the community. Athene/Zephyruzs anyone ? (ya, it looked nice) http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/f...shots-of-the-updated-Athene-Zephyrus-area-WIP But it never happened, as "MA" thought it would not fit the overall design. Gigantic Golf Course anyone ? And so on... I can already SEE the next announcement of "We plan to change the design of X. Here is a preview"...everbody going "woohoo" again. The love is gone. This world got kicked with feet too many times. War Titan Typhon destroyed everything and CryEngine 2 was choosen as the remedy. This world will never change again to what it was once. MA will never change again (most got fired). Discussions will lead to nowhere anymore, except, if some MA employee will show mercy, by stumbling across this post, writing something like :"Nice, Ill forward this to the design team". But thats it. Ideas will all stay within the community. All of our ideas will stay on the forum or in our heads. They wont go any further.
I didn't want Athena Space Port to go... I like it. I hate the idea that they'd scrap it for no reason rather than work on making more out of what they had. They already did that once with PA. (Well twice actually) Although it is a bit more cohesive now and impressively looking. I liked what they were working on through, it looked really good but it wouldn't have been an appropriate replacement for Athena. As for our ideas, well, we just need to buy Nesoi Makaron (aka Next Island) Wistrel
That. Apartment complexes should be places where you'd really like to live. Maybe with an open space working like a forum, landing platforms and piers for vehicles, access to terminals, auction & co, shopping and leisure activities (PVP ring?) close-by, etc etc etc
