Entropia News: ComPet Announcement

Discussion in 'Entropia News' started by EP-Newsbot, Sep 17, 2018.

  1. How can it be, that even such a minor announcement includes a broken promise again ?

No NPCs on Calypso...only on Arkadia.

Now you need a spaceship, a space-thruster and oil to travel through the boring space and pvp zones...to turn in your 5 deeds of bullshit into 2 deeds of nothing...impressive, seriously impressive... x'D

Indeed. Must be because the Caly team was working on... plants. Never disturb people with anything important while they take care of their plants.

Meh... I had to got to Caly to get Caly deeds. No biggie.

  4. Look who arised from the ashes today (19.10.2018)...the guy who never posted again on "the other forum" and became silent on the Compet forum...for 1 freaking year..."I-only-post-a-random-message-per-year-Kim" himself...wow...this is so awkward...even for the swedish standard of excellence. :'D

  5. Flew to Arkadia the other day to do the deed ‘upgrade’.

Saw no space ships other than stationary ones near Calypso Space Station.

On Arkadia saw no more than three or four other avatars.

Flew to Arkadia Moon and saw nobody other than those abundant ‘Colonists’ NPCs.

A desperate but possibly game-changing solution could be to force-spawn all EU players into specific zones on one day per week.

Eg. spawn everyone on a planet’s continent, or even a town or a moon...basically make sure that at least one area of EU is alive and thriving for one day a week.

Lots of downsides to doing this eg. lost revenue to land owners, increased server load etc., but if this measure increases activity or makes the game more fun then everyone benefits.

How would that make things more fun? Shit gets laggy whenever large amounts of avatars show up in the same place. And the fundamentally boring game mechanics ("click", "click", "click", "click", "click") don't change, so while it might offer a bit more of a social aspect, I don't think it necessarily would make things more fun.

  7. Meh yeah it was a bad idea. ;)

Seems radical but reminds me of the day that Az slashdotted Entropia and the servers were so flooded MA were dropping Oranges all over Calypso. Was fun.

  9. Wistrel I don’t understand that?

    Az? Slashdotted? You’ve lost me??

Az = Azrael, a guy who used to play PE back in the days. He tossed a news article about Entropia on slashdot, which at the time was a news site aggregating IT news (kind of like Reddit nowadays).

  11. Good explanations guys, now Wistrel’s post makes perfect sense to me. :)

  12. Maybe is not Kim we remember because i see his signature as senior game designer.
He used to have some political message in signature.
Don't remember exactly but it was about that he was raped or looted by Russian bear.

  13. It was:
    ("Russian reversal")

  14. ("Russian reversal") Soviet?

One of reasons that i remembered something of his signature is fact that i didn't like.

Aziphirael posted a quick news story on Slashdot about the sale of the Space station to Neverdie. The phrase slashdotting specifially refers to the fact that the site was so unbelievably popular, that any article posted on it, that linked to another website, would most likely cause said website to fall over as a result of kind of "natural Distributed denial of service" attack as the entire slashdot readership start visiting the site.

In the case of entropia, Az linked the Entropia website. This caused 2 problems:

    1. The client loader uses a web page container to show a news and client status page. Because the webserver had slowed to a crawl, the client loader struggled to load the aforementioned page. This meant it got very difficult to log in.

    2. The account creation/new arrival rate shot through the roof (it was a free game after all). The number of players showing up at PA got so big that the server couldn't cope and instead new players started to be "dropped" all over Calypso.

It was actually a really fun time. A bunch of us were jumping around the various TP's and picking up new players who were wondering where the hell they were and how to get anywhere. Good memories.

Compet was doomed to fail from day 1, for various reasons. I really don't get how someone could come to the conclusion that some pets battle arena would be a good idea. Cute little lore-breaking pets, absolutely unbelievable, so unbelievable we wouldn't dare to do this as Aprils fool joke.

In the meantime, another company has shown how to tie-in spin-off from the main series, namely CDPR with The Withcer, Gwent was a card game first integrated in The Witcher 3, to be played in taverns as a little diversion, then in was released a a stand-alone game, and now it has even produced its own spin-off with Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, which is actually a strategy-RPG mix using Gwent as a combat system and it's really cool.

P.S.: @MindArk should you ever want to do something really cool and optimize for success get in touch please, I'm a professional

If totally let loose I'd be an awesome contributor to content of the oblivion because I'd first radically remove all that makes no sense :D
