In an interview with European games magazine PSM3, Crytek's business development lead Carl Jones said that they're getting "slightly more performance" from the PlayStation 3 version of Crysis 2, as compared to the Xbox 360 version. While that's most likely the honest truth from a man inside the studio, here's why you should just let that comment pass quietly in the night. I saw the game running on the 360 at the premiere event in New York last week, and even though there were the typical signs of a game that was not-quite-finished, it did look quite stunning. That's due to Crytek's approach to multiplatform development, specifically the "Live Create" abilities of CryEngine 3 as seen at the 1:25 mark in this officially-released tech trailer: Watch Larger Version | Watch HD Version With that in mind, what we should be taking away from the PSM3 interview is this quote from Jones: "I'm very confident that products using CryEngine 3 are going to come out as the best looking, or at least in the top three, on every platform." Moral of the story? "Slightly more performance" is kind of an unquantifiable statement at this juncture, and everyone's going to be happy when Crysis 2 comes out later this year.
