Too many things hitting the daylight right now and you just want to pull the plug...out of nowhere ? ;D Then again, this got truly repetitive over the past decade. Always the same people fall for it. Always the very same lame "investor"-scam-tactics by Mindark. Nice psychological experiment, but in the end, its just a small group from Sweden, aiming for all of your money, offering literally nothing in return. The so called "community" crying hardcore on the fourms every 3-6 months...just to keep gambling ahead anyway. I wouldnt mind anymore, SEEing Entropia finally shutting down. It was "interesting" while it lasted. Im sure there is a handfull of people left, that dumpaheee invested all of their loans & mortgages into this swedish "company" and would have even bigger problems after a shutdown...bigger problems as they already have right now. Except for messi91, he would keep claiming making money by playing Entropia, even after its shutdown. ^^
As stupid as people are, and as little as I want to discount your concerns, I am much more bothered by this general trend to crack down on a lot of freedoms. Gambling is one of them, even if unhealthy for a minority. No, I don't want them to be terminated for running a gambling operation. I blame them for the luring of "investments without exit strategy" and then reneging on the original promise. This is a different quality than a game of luck, essentially a simulation of natural laws which could actually teach something useful. But maybe back on topic. I am really of two minds about this new development of NI. Some good ideas notwithstanding, it is overall destructive to an original work of art, and it does not benefit the whole of Entropia since it just goes about pilfering the usual whales from the other worlds. New participants might have been attracted with the time travel concept if that was properly carried onward. The devs said explicitly that they were moving away from it (per statement in a recent Discord conference). I believe the wrong people were chosen for the project, but nobody else stepped up in so many years, so this is what we get.
You mean the chance to global/hof? Well you could maybe say, the bigger gun you have, the bigger the mob you can hunt, the bigger the expenditure, the bigger the return (in peds, not as a percentage of expenditure). In which case, the chance to global goes up the more you spend as you'll need to to get that aleged 90% average return. And being able to use a big gun efficiently at least is skill based. Admitedly, "skill" in Entropia has jack shit to do with skill in say, learning to fly a helicopter has to do with skill, it is purely a measure of how much grinding/expenditure you have performed.
I think it's wrong to say "no one stepped up". NI has been a mystery asset ever since Meg posted about having to pack up her things. If the thing was ever "for sale" I'm sure someone would have stepped in but it was almost like fight club, no one ever said anything about it. I always thought that MA should have offered it up as some sort of "player planet". That would have been really cool and might have got them some nice headlines. I expect there are probably enough interested people in the community that some sort of cooperative could have been put together where people work on art, missions, models, story, website, sounds, programming (if that is an option for PP's), planning etc. It would have a been a really nice thing for the community manager to have run too. Give them something useful to do for a change from the old "HELLO!!! SUPER ENTHUSED TO TALK TO YOU AL.... SILENCE... MORE SILENCE... DO THEY KNOW i'M STILL HERE? DID THEY FORGET YET? ok good... I'm gone... ... ... so gone... .... ... ... yes... ... i w-a-s n-e-v-e-r h-e-r-e..." Heck I mean, they could have at least given it a 1 year experimental shot. Pay people in PED even if they were that worried it wouldn't work. I bet many would have done it for free even just to see their creations in a virtual world. It sure would have been better than having it just sit there gradually getting bit rot for all these years. As for the new people, it kinda bugs me that they are so darn cagey about who they are and how come they are getting to work on NI. What did they do to get through the wall of willful silence regarding the planet? Was there a sale? is there something else going on? What gives? Wistrel
According to David Post, he still owns and operates the planet, and has been focussing on marketing. My guess is that Shaun Klein was recommended by MindArk, the same way they recommended that Toulan would get their forums hosted by Jason Peterson/neovixen.
Something went seriously wrong in contract land I feel. It would be good if MA had had some sort of re-possession clause if the PP's fail to maintain/develop their planets. After all it looks bad for them to have large chunks of their game suffering from bitrot and they have to deal with the support. Is RT still under development incidentally? I have visually bugged RT items.
Wow! More effort went into this one video than pretty much all Calypso story since the original plotline!
Random thing... I dug out Dalewj's book link at Way Back Machine Outside Protocols | dalewj (archive.org) The book is here: Outside Protocols (lulu.com) or here (where you can "look inside") Outside Protocols: Amazon.co.uk: Johnson, Dale: 9781300673385: Books
