Dear Next Island and NEVERDIE Studios

  1. Hey everyone! Menace here! Figured I'd take the time to make a post about my thoughts re: Next Island.

I was born on Planet Calypso 2 1/2 years ago. It was the first MMORPG I ever played and like most... was drawn to the RCE. Since I started on Calypso I've spent several 10's of thousands of U.S. dollars trying improve my avatar so that I could get to a level where I could enjoy the service for free. Finally, about a month ago I gave up. Sold my gear for the most part and toned down to Korss H400 level. To help assist with the costs to play I started doing some graphic work for other players which I really enjoy. My in-game time dropped to about 10% of what it was several months ago and I can honestly say.... I lost ALL drive and ambition to log in to the Entropia Universe.
Then December came and an UPDATE! A REALLY really BIG update! Welcome to Next Island! I jumped on the first train over here with my wife looking over my shoulder (not sure why.... she couldn't care less about Entropia).
Upon arrival the visuals were STUNNING! The sounds were fresh and raised a sense of curiousity. The geography was vast and diverse. Moths/bugs fluttered around my face, I could almost smell the tropical mist rising up from the waterfalls around Club NEVERDIE teleporter. My wife IMMEDIATELY said "Make me an avatar! I want to play on this planet!"... and so.... "Little Whiskey Girl" was born.

So now here I am on Next Island trying to make my wife's fresh new start as painless as possible. So I'm doing some things with her avatar and taking the brunt of the painful "noobieness" for her. I'm hunting, mining, exploring and no matter WHERE I go... I'm discovering really fun new things. Hidden caves, TP's on top of rock formations, what appear to be time travel portals, cool new mobs, MORE caves, water falls, dense jungle, desert, rain forest, cliffs, canyons, ravines, deep oceans, stagnant swamps, there's just SO MUCH to see on this planet! Really guys... the visuals on Next Island push this planet WAY above the rest!
Mining..... ohhhh mining. I've never been a good miner BUT figured it was good to get the drilling skills for HP while exploring. WTH!?!?!? Blood Moss! With a ROOKIE finder! After a couple weeks of mining with Rookie gear then TT gear and now 101 finders I've found stuff that I've NEVER seen on Calypso with my SIB finders that "Menace" was using. And not because it's "New" but because the ores and en-mats don't seem to be as deep in the ground up here. In the end I still lost some PEDs mining BUT to find so many DIFFERENT ores/en-mats was a REAL pleasure and kept the time being passed exciting and enjoyable.

The hunting is in a league of it's own as well. NEVER seen anything like it. Low damaging yet higher HP mobs allow the newest of noobs to global! At about 12 hrs old "Whiskey Girl" got her first global off a Sacred Boar wearing unplated ghost and toting an EP-40. (I know... not the most eco, but fast skilling). Yellow Papoo's (when you can get them 1 vs. 1 without the greys jumping in) are the best paying opalo/TT sword mobs I've EVER seen!

There has obviously been A TONNE of thought put into Next Island in order to make it friendly to the new player. Because of this... I believe it will be a GREAT success! You can bet "Whiskey Girl" will be there in-game when NI goes live at the CES!

    Now for a few "Issues":

1.) Not enough revives on CND Land area.
    2.) Need some turrets.
3.) Need Tech Papoos to work
4.) Need to assassinate the pitchfork wielding mob that's been gathering lately.

Other than that... FANTASTIC job everyone! Next Island is something to be proud of!

    Wish List:
    -Monkey tails to wear
-Parrots to sit on our shoulders
-Faster vehicles (ND Raceway is HUGE)
-Maybe a T-Shirt saying "I got my tan on Next Island" ? lol
-A few more differnt mob models
-Get rid of some of the pigs on the mainland.... there's really TOO MANY... no-where to mine now (or at least go on a nice long mining run)

P.S. I don't miss Calypso (nor their community) one bit!

Nicely told Menace, I just saw Little Whiskey Girl at CND before I logged out :) I agree, I feel right at home in this new environment, will be looking forward to more new things and the planet growing over time, but understand that at the end of the day these guys have to depend on MA, and aren't in the same office building with them, so things will take time. I just learned tonight that the Sacred Boars are gone, went to check and yep, no more. Lots of speculation about why, and why we also lost all but two of the many tps we had on day one automatically (mostly on ND's land areas), but we must wait and see how it all will shake out.

Have a happy holdiay to all who celebrate them :)

  4. Thats a super encouraging Post, I'm sure everyone will really take it to heart... As you all know we have our work cut out to continue to improve and add to Next island to keep it continually Growing and Fresh, but postive feedback like this is definately inspirational.

thanks on behalf of everyone behind the scenes

  5. Same was with me. Was about to stop all together and ended up trying NI and I have found a reason to log in again (other than to just chat with soc). Nice to see ya happy with the game. GZ on getting the wife to play. Finally got mine to the point where she like mining and then I stopped playing :/ So I am back at square one with her lol.

  6. Hah. My gf made an avatar a year ago specifically to play Next Island. Now that its released she keeps pestering me to transport her over here. :-)

I found your story particularly nice, and so after reading it again I opted to post it on my Soc website as a story of encouragement. Youre credited of course.
