I dunno... I mean I guess it's just another version of the old adage: "A fool and his money are easily parted". There is a craze for this stuff right now, probably in part because of the pandemic/boredom and that people have cash they can't easily burn on other things. Also there's not much money that can be made from savings/interest so people look for something else to speculate on in the hopes they'll be able to flog it on later to another idiot with a bigger pocket.

I suppose in many ways this is what Entropia got like. I always feel MA perhaps never intended from the start for things to get valued in game, way out of proportion for what they were actually worth game play wise. It was probably a cock up and then they realised people were dumb enough to pay the high prices for a black can of paint that hardly ever drops and decided to keep things that way. Then we have this perpetuity of black stuff in game being worth way more than what someone should seriously want to pay just to have a slightly cooler looking outfit.

I guess the reality is people always recon without that person in mind for whom a few hundred dollars on a virtual item is nothing.
