Entropia Life - mapsu

Discussion in 'Entropia Services' started by starfinder, Jun 27, 2012.

  1. At Entropia Life we have created our own map system. Instead of using the Google maps API, which only allows 25.000 pageloads per day - we are already reaching that amount - we have created our very own system. This system is tailored to be able to do exactly what we want - and we can add new functionality to the map system is requested. Instead of loading the maps in "tiles" (small pictures) we are loading the entire map in one image since the maps are fairly small (even with the best quality we can get).
This allows us to make a fast map system you can zoom and move around like you know from google maps. A a part of our more idealogical approach to the entire system - we did not want to use any 3rd party API's (such as "connect with facebook" or the likes - everything is custom coded for Entropia Life!)

Currently we offer 3 different maps.
One of those maps is the "mob globals map". This map shows you where which mobs have globalled. Please note, your map will be custom build based on your security settings - and the security settings of your friends. If you have selected that you do not want to share your locations with anyone - then the map will only be build from your locations. On the other hand, if you select to share your locations with your friends - then you can see your locations + all your friends locations (provided they have selected to share their locations with their friends as well).

Below you can see the "Mob globals" map.

This map looks very much like the traditional google map with "markers" for each global. Click the marker - then you will get info about the marker (how big the global was and so on).

One of the more complex (to code at least) map types is the "mineral area" map.
This map uses mining finds to build you a "density map" of the selected mineral type.
Each area is created by the system finding finds of the same mineral type that has been found close to each other - then based on the amount of finds within that area, the area is colored brighter read.
If there has been few finds - the transparency is high, if there has been a lot of finds - the color is bright red!

As always: We are making this site for you guys, so if you have any suggestions or comments - feel free. We have an Entropia Life suggestions group on Entropia Life (under social) please subscribe to that group if you want to keep up with suggestions or if you have a suggestion of your own.

    Thanks.
