Crumbling about MindArk's performance is rarely done to discredit MA. It's rather because people see the potential in Entropia Universe and are disappointed by MA's severe inability to fully exploit it.

And actually MA must disappointed by their own performance too. Not at last they are the ones setting the goals they miserably fail to achieve. Not even talking about standards set by the competition.

There is a pattern: Announce a big shiny something, delay, delay, delay, release a crippled version given the orginal announcement that does not meet current standards either.

I know, it's a "concept video", not a game trailer, but that's where we are at:

    Cyberpunk 2077

    EVE

    Star Citizen

    Defiance

McC doesn't need an intervention ... Micky is "right on" ... and I know you're making light of this while trying to make a point my friend (you've always been a friend), but I would like to suggest that you read McC's posts over again ... not just the ones in this thread, but all of them ... and it might be a good idea to turn the light on.

Some look at his posts as whining or complaining, but I (and others btw) see them as critical analysis, which I hope that many others decide to employ once in a while, and get their heads out of the sand. McCormick is a veteran who understands the value and potential of this universe and why he carries on as he does, and I for one am damn glad he does.

That's why many of us get as involved as we do, because we love this universe and want to see it as it could be, not just somebody's money pit.

I'm going to stop here because I have a lot to say, but I'll save it for the article I'm writing for MSM. It will take me several days, but I'll be posting a link when it's done.

Hugs Puck, and thanks for the support you've always given, it's appreciated.

  4. Just because we don't make the same conclusion and djugment don't mean that we "others" don't employe "critical analysis" ;)

I will also point out when comparing MA with other companies, CCP that makes EVE have about ten times the number of employes compared to MA and don't have the same resources. But yes, I have always thought that MA have been horribly bad doing video trailers for the game, this was at least a huge improvement.

You're absolutely right Airboy, and I have to remember that everyone doesn't have the same information, so it makes it difficult, and it only stands to reason that there would be different conclusions and different judgments. I didn't mean to imply that "others" didn't use critical analysis, and I shouldn't be so "general" when I make my statements, so I will take care not to do that in the future. If you catch me, let me know.

The sad thing is though Airboy, that MA could have had the level of employees and player base as other games by now, but they just took a different direction. I'm relatively certain that MA thinks that they can't really be compared to other games because the RCE factor is so unique, but there are SO many variables that MA could be graded on, and have been, but they just don't seem to care, which is unfortunate.

The problem is, what they "attempt" to improve is what they don't need to focus on, and ... creating new content, new events, new instances, new real estate auctions (all Calypso related except the Moon), and (IMO) it appears to be a way to appease and placate the player base when they get restless, and to fill the coffers, but then that gets old too.

It used to be said (and maybe it still is) that only those who can sink big cash into this game have a snowball's chance in hell of having any success, but guess what ... even the high rollers are having their challenges, and here is where I could insert that laundry list, but ... I'll leave you with one thought:

How long has it taken to get taming back? Oh that's right, it's not back yet, and there are others waiting on systems to be implemented so that their creativity can be shared with us, but here's the burning question ...

What do you think will happen first? ... it took 6 years for the Egg, and that was quite anti-climatic, not to mention the mob that they came up with that looked like it could have been created by a group of Kindergartners with Play Doh, which makes me now think that the Mothership and Privateer/Pathfinder designs were farmed out.

Oh wait, I have another question ... crazy stuff crosses my mind at times:

Agreements between PPs and MA is 50/50 if a player is spawned (born) on a specific planet - if that player goes to another planet, it's 25% - we've got CLD action in there now too, and everything has been laid out ... the question is ... who gets all the PEDS from activity that takes place in Space? Has anyone seen that in print anywhere?

    ON-TOPIC

Theryon Wars would have been great, and I was really upset when Jorge Ordaz left, he's just a blessed soul, but then I got to thinking ... Theryon Wars was based on space activity if I recall correctly, right? (or am I thinking of something else).

  6. 1st of all, this video wasnt made by the creative MindArk people (that are probably no longer employed there), it was done by the Arkadia team.

I find it hard to understand, calling this video "a huge improvement", when compared to the 2001 original concept video :

Even the fanmade trailer beats the sh!t out of the...blue/white woman...
But yes, everyone is free to do his own judgement. ;)
And if MA would not have fired most of their creative staff...who knows where we would have been today already...

  7. The taming did not fill any big function anyway. I want pets, pets that can be used to ride and used as transport, or similar useful functions. Pets just standing outside outpost doing nothing are not much of use. A good pet system can be a big asset for the game that will make it more fun and draw more players, but it most be good and "cool" and that takes time to develop.

MA prioritized other developments as vehicles, space and more lately the Avatar improvement. Would I prefer pets instead of the space? No. Even if the space it's pretty boring right now, it's an important element to create the Universe and connect the planets. Would I prefer pets instead of vehicles? Absolute not.

Was not the "Egg hype" something mostly created by the community?

Yes, I think it would have been space based and I looked forwarded to that, it would be a bit different.

  8. I don't know if "fired" is the right word, most of the team you are talking about was the team that went over in the Calypso sell. So, when the SEE/MA deal fell apart they was employed by the SEE owned FPC company. What SEE did with them after the "break down" is not MA fault. But, yes, MA probably got in "trouble" when they suddenly was forced to manage and develop Calypso again without the old "Calypso team" left.

And why not take help from the planet partners if they are good on something? I think that is just a good thing to the help each other. For example if Neverdie/Rocktropia have someone in his team that is really good on creating game music and sound effect, why can't MA or other pp buy his service?

Sorry for being off topic in the thread.

  9. What a mess, eh ? :p

You have to dig deeper. Way deeper. You need way more informations to keep discussing with me. :) Neverdie once hired professionals, for example a guy from "Gears Of War" team. But thats the past. Neverdie was involved into nearly every planet. (but no longer is)

MA is already buying (bought) 3D models for the game. Somehwere from the internet. (for exampel the vehicles) They use a standard library for sound effects and I dont know if Lars Falk is still employed by MindArk (the musician).

MA (Bridge Investment etc.) likes to cook their own soup. So many cooks...but no cooker.

  10. I did not say Neverdie had the resources was only an example ;)
MA is a small company, it's very hard for them to have experts on all areas, and buying some basic designs it's and "okey" shortcut in my opinion to have some basic to build on. Is it not the planets partners that should do the design, not MA anyway?

  11. Planet Partners design their planet. MA dictates what, how and when... or just places barricades in your way.

Help is always appreciated, sure. I started my movie project because I really want(ed) to support MY universe. And I still do. But my "content of oblivion blog" doesnt really show the positive aspects of MY universe. :p

And even when all the good people were still with MindArk...promises were already broken back then, they lied to us etc. Why didnt MindArk contract all the SEE people back ?

Talking of competition trailers to compare to... the secret world not only did some great reander trailers and promotional shorts before launch but then did a very good launch trailer. Additionally their content release videos are fantastic. They just have the head chap doing the talking over videos of content to be released. Not saying this cause I play the game (I don't, yet...) but yeh really there is a standard...

    For example:

    or for the earlier promos

Ah well... maybe one day Cyrene will "hard launch" and use their animation and film making workshops to make something... I don't know maybe a bit like this...

Personally I would have liked them to fix the problems that exist in the game while adding the much needed systems before they started to advertise. Plus return the feel of the game that is hidden in their servers just out of reach of their imagination....

There ARE shiney new Mechs in game that look a little like the original ones (front loading doors). They are on one of the new ish islands near the TP. Can't remember exactly location though

  16. I get the impression that not everyone in MA is sailing in the same direction and that this is why they haven't fully exploited the potential of Entropia Universe.
As I see it a few things need changing.
Vehicle speed needs to be variable, atm it's just one speed - and the max speeds needs to be much higher especially for aircraft and spacecraft (sub warp speeds anyway).
The map of EU Space needs to be rescaled - a bit like eve online. It's absurd that you can see the one you're heading for almost as soon as you've left the one you were on, and there should be a sun somewhere in the middle.
Somehow, they need to simplify the skilling system. There's too many tiers/levels and it's too convoluted - and creatures that eat ammo for breakfast is another thing that needs to be addressed if EU is to be truly realistic. Other than these things, I think EU is basically fine. I think the CE2 graphics is good and the avatars are good.
