The UK used to enjoy playing with rockets and irradiating the landscape and lifeforms in one of the colonies furthest away from British soil. Maybe they ran out of colonies who would tolerate being irradiated? ](*,)

  3. Yeah our whole rocketry program was cancelled! We used to use peroxide which gave a really nice flame but the government of the time decided they couldn't afford the shed or the bloke with the flat cap and the pipe who did it all. Now all we launch is fireworks :(.

But the rocket crews all had fantastic blonde hair as a result. :hehe:

  5. Sounds a bit like one of the EU VU's - LOL!:D But if the UK stopped rocket tests, etc, because of problems with irradiating places, then what stopps current nations that launch rockets from doing the same.

But on another note, Virgin Galactic might prove me wrong and get the UK lunching rockets all over again

Well, the tests that I mentioned that were carried out here involved A bombs. I'm sure conventional rockets would not pose the same amount of harm, so I'm not sure why the UK does not launch them.

    Good question though. :ok:

  9. I should have said space rockets, but I agree A-bomb rockets would be a different matter. No-one should launch those anywhere...

  12. It's due to the government at the time the plug was pulled, they decided there was no future in it and that it was just a money pit. Pity really considering the huge amount of profit that is to made launching satellites. Still governments are not supposed to have any foresight, if they did they would not get re-elected!

Lots of info here about the rockets at least:-

Remember seeing some footage of one of the rockets before it was fuelled, the outer skin could be pushed in with the palm of the hand, the whole thing being as light as possible in design, it's rigidity for flight was supplied by the pressure of the fuel! Flat caps, pipes and working in the shed at the bottom of the garden! Very ingenious stuff. Pity it was all scrapped!

  13. Cool - Nice find! All this time I thought that rocket powered interceptors and such were only in the realms of science fiction. Shame we didn't go ahead with some of them...

  14. Well there's the third world uk. What we invent we sell, or allow to be stolen. What we're good at we make sure no-one can afford to learn. Our best companies get sold abroad to be stripped and destroyed. All the big taxpayers get to 'avoid' paying anything, so that everyone else can stump up the difference.

    What is it to you?
It would be nice if our best companies get sold to be stripped and destroyed.Perhaps there are a few exceptions.Who are you talking about?

  16. Well said! I agree with that...

  17. oh yeah did i forget about complaining that too many people are getting degrees, simultaneously with saying there are massive skills gaps. Then we reward the universities handing out these oh so valuable degrees with the remit to charge up to £10k per year. This of course so competitive with degrees brought in by skilled immigrants, who neatly fill the skills gap at a fraction of the cost, so our native degree holders can draw their dole from those tax payers who were so lucky to get their education for free.
