Faunasphere By Carolyn Koh - www.mmorpg.com The essence of Faunasphere is that it is a 100% web-based, non-violent, pro-environmental casual MMO. You raise adorably cute-looking fauna, zap pollution and build your own world for your fauna to reside in. You start by adopting one of three fauna available, a Hoofer (Horse), a Sniffer (Dog) or a Scooter (Tortoise) and enter the world, zapping blocks of pollution, digging up plants and with your fauna’s ability, shake trees, dive into pools, lift rocks or root around inside hollow stumps for treasure. Each action yields you Lux – the in-game currency, Egg points, food or quest items and world building blocks. READ MORE -------------------------- Atlantica Online By Lisa Krebs - www.mmorpg.com Unlike other MMOs, combat is turn-based. You travel along with (mostly invisible) mercenaries who appear when it's time to fight. You control your mercenaries' movements and attacks as well as your own. Mini-chess, in a way - you can't just pound a bunch of keys and try to beat your opponent and any lag you happen to be experiencing that night. You can tell which character is able to move by the green circles underneath them and you can select the specific opponent you want to attack. The format is 3X3 blocks. This combat style is my favorite feature of the game. I truly enjoyed it, as will anyone who likes that level of control in game-play. There's less of a mash feel when you can spend 15 seconds to control all of your mercenaries. READ MORE -------------------------- Freaky Creatures By Carolyn Koh - www.mmorpg.com It's a world of the future where Corporations rule and the heirs raise genetically engineered creatures to fight their wars. That's what the comic-book that came with my Press Kit informed me at any rate. The story is much like Saturday morning cartoons for kids such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Chaotic-CodeScanner where kids are the heroes of the stories. To parents, they are commercials for children's toys thinly disguised as adventure cartoons. To kids, they are the mostest, awesomest TV shows and they want to be just like those kids! Freaky Creatures fits into that genre of adventure stories and would probably be a popular kid's cartoon if made into a TV show. Instead, it is an MMO. A mostest, awesomest MMO. Character customization is simple with a voice-over of Merle Ambrose walking the new player through it. There are limited choices between faces and hairstyles, colors and the starting outfit; the hat, robe, shoes and the color of the trim. Then you are asked a series of questions Ultima style and sorted into the right school of Magic for your personality. There are seven schools of magic to choose from, and these are Fire, Ice, Storm, Life, Myth, Balance, and Death. You can also by-pass the question and answer session by simply choosing your school. READ MORE -------------------------- Global Agenda By William Murphy - www.mmorpg.com Global Agenda, a first offering from the rookie developer Hi-Rez Studios is not your typical MMO. Right smack in the middle of the official FAQ on their website, the developer tells us that their game does not have any of the following: a large, seamless world to explore, quest givers, open world PvP or PvE, or elves. They then boldly proclaim, "If you consider any of these items to be must-haves within your MMO, we may not be the game for you." So when rating Global Agenda as an MMORPG I've got to rein in my typical expectations. I can't fault a game for not having something it was never intended to have and instead I've got to base this review on what Hi-Rez Studios claims their game to be: an action-based shooter MMO. And with such an amalgamation of game mechanics in place, I beg forgiveness if I miss something crucial.
