First PC-game you ever played

Discussion in 'Other games and gaming' started by Acronoid, Jan 25, 2014.

  1. While being thinking about playing a game while I take a micro break from EU I started thinking about all the games I played.

Then I thought back to the first games I ever player. The first game I played on a computer was Prince of Persia; the original 2D platformer, where you play a sword wielding fair haired Persian (yeah, I know....) in ancient Persian times and the goal is to rescue the princess from an the evil vizier that is a wizard.

The game had stunning animations for its time; using rotoscoping. And used sword fighting, which was unusual for games from that time. The music was kinda epic too :whistling:

It is certainly not the best I ever played; but being the first, it has something memorable to it.

So what is your first PC game?

I used to hang out with a buddy who had a PC. By then I played on the MSX, C64, MAC or Spectrum, but the first PC Games I ever got to play were Police Quest, Space Quest, Larry, Airborne Ranger. I do remember the original Prince of Persia, though I think that was a few years later.

My parents were kind of old-fashioned, so we didn't get a 'puter until 1989 or 1990. I promptly managed to flunk my high school year the same year.

  5. In high school Prince of Persia was on one on the computers that we did cad programs on in shop class, so there are many fond memories of playing that from time to time. I still haven't beaten the prince of persia game on the ps2 yet since it gets really confusing as to where you have to go next after a while since you keep going back and forth between the old castle and new castle and it all gets to be highly repetitive after a while, especially if you aren't playing it for a few months so you get confused on where you are storywise in the plot.

1st pc game was probably something on apple iie... we had access to iie at elementary school and played on it during recess from time to time. I remember where in the world is carmen sandiego was one of the games. I think zork may have been another one, but can't remember exactly if that was at the elementary school or on a pc somewhere else that I first experienced it. iie was my first introduction to paint programs way before photoshop ever existed. Loved that little program.

Prior to elementary school the Nintendo Entertainment System was the main game I had access to. I know it's not a 'pc' but for many young ones back then it's about all we had access to.
On console mario/duckhunt was 'first game' since it came out with those games with the console. Shortly after mario other games were added to the collection for several years. I never 'beat' section z since it had awesome fast paced levels and music - loved playing it. I might have to go back to it on an emulator someday soon..Earliest 'accomplishment' on NES was beating Mario 8 times in a row non-stop. After the first go through you get to go through a second time where it's a little harder. Yes, of course I used warp zones, lol. That one jump in level 8-1 where there's the one little place you have to jump to between two massive pits right before the pipes at the end always was the hardest part about the whole game to me since you had to run in such a small location... that little jump always frustrated the hell out of me, lol.

There were a lot of games added to our collection over time for that console until it stopped working sometime in high school or shortly thereafter...

Since this thread is about nostalgia/playing old games.... Retroarch on android kicks ass as far as emulators go, but get the newest version from google play because older versions don't all work with all roms, and even the newest one has some problems with some of the emulators in it as not all buttons work on all games with every emulator in there (retroarch combines a lot of emulators in to one gui) for some oddball reason.

It's not really a 'pc' but before or shortly after we got the NES at home I remember the fun little word games on the 'computron'. That thing was very advanced for it's time. Kinda wish we still had it so I could introduce a new generation of nieces and nephews to it even if it ate batteries like crazy and took a ton of them... 6 c batteries, wow, even more than I remember.

RAZER Custom title ... uh ...

before the PC I played the Nintendo 8bit machine and the SEGA Megadrive 16bit at a friends place. I also had an MSX with games on tape. Not sure when I got my first PC and which was the first game I played on that. I do remember spending a lot of hours on:

I had a Sinclair ZX Specrum first with all my games on audio tapes. Favourite that I can recall was Dan Dare.

Next I had an Amiga 500. Used to spend hours playing all sorts on that

First PC game I recall playing for extended periods of time was Quake and Duke Nukem 3D......and just want on from there

  8. lol, i honestly think my first game I ever played was probably hangman on the first computer i ever used. The Comodore PET 8032. Very primitive graphics of course with the old monochrome screen...LOL There was also a version of space invaders for for the PET which I remember playing often on the school computer.. :)
I remember playing the original Leisure Suit Larry which was just a text game...but was great fun back then...lol

The first game with "real graphics" if i remember was AMOK. God this thread makes me feel old.

  9. omg, Albion is back online, lol. Played that game in 1994-1995 in college... this ancient mud was the first one I ever participated in. It actually got me my first 'real' girlfriend back then with lots of bbhug commands (blanket hug), lol. She lived in the next dorm over from where I was staying at the time.

  10. I always tought i started playing games on the nintendo 8-bit (Mario and Duckhunt) but while reading people their comments i started to remember i was indeed first time introduced with computer games at family and friends on pc's, being it Prince of Persia or games like Stuns3D, Larry and indeed the police quest series.

First time I saw a PC game was when a friend's mum borrowed a PC from work, There was a game, a sort of adventure game of the medieval genre. I remember being really impressed by the animation of the main characters cloak as he? walked around. I don't think I ever knew what it was called, but remember watching in total awe at how nice the animation was and how high-res the screen was.

As for the first stuff we had when my family finally got a PC.... heck, hard to remember the early stuff. There was a definite period BEFORE we got a sound card (and joystick port!!) where we were playing some very old things. Hmmm..... not sure if it was the first but I definitely remember this one getting some serious air time.

As for other early exposure to computer games... I remember going to an Arcade once and playing this:

The first computer game I ever played at home though was:

and the first game I think I ever played on a computer full stop was.... heck can't find it. Its a real dim memory.... it had joysticks I don't know if the "computer" had a keyboard or not... There was sort of a grid of lines and you had to chases each other around by moving on the lines (I think it was 2 player,.. maybe not). There may have been NPC's chasing you, there may have been a concept of you "painting" the lines are you went over them, it might be that boxes got filled in green when you had done 4 sides....

Sorry REAL long time ago ;)

    Good thread btw :D

    that one is tough

the first games on a computer i played, i think atari something?, i cant even recall the names of #D
i wouldn't be surprised if the very first game for me was actually Tetris on it (maybe with another name, but basically that game)
i also recall one strange game with some commando dude trying to get from down the map to up the map basically, which was hard as hell
and another were you could control some kind of military units to a point, try to defend against attackers and could kinda actively do some sort of minigame if they encountered eachother to win the fight with higher likelyhood

the first game that actually pops to mind for PC was Dune 2
there were prolly earlier ones, but those i recall, especially not name wise
but gee, i cant remember too many, especially not in a timeframe
other early games i recall were Doom and descent, raptor, uh, then it gets really tough

Commando - LOVED that game. My friend had it on his Amstrad. They did a conversion for the Electron at some point but it was really slow. Kinda made it a different game really. More strategic than twitchy.

Might bring back memories? ;) There is even a sung version on there!

If we're talking about the actual first games I played, Pong and Pac Man come to mind. On MSX, we played a lot of Penguin Adventure and winter/summer games.

C64: Archon (Interactive chess), yie are kung fu, platoon and who dares wins come to mind.
On the Mac, we played a lot of Dark Castle, Radical Castle, Some submarine sim I forgot the name of (but it featured firing anti-aircraft guns as well), shuffle puck cafe, and some odd game where you landed on an alien planet and fought all kind of MOBs. I cannot remember the name of that for the life of me. I believe it had "Crystal" in the name, but have not found it (Despite looking for it). Oh, and Asteroids :)

awww Prince of Persia, yes I played that one too. Jump and run with some fighting and in the end ride the flying horse.. yeeehaaa. I also played PoP-Sands of Time when it came out :)
but the very first game on a computer I played was Dynamite Dan, was back then the only game we had on our computer at home and my whole family did play it :) after that came Survivor or so, but that didnt last nearly as long and then my mom got totally impressive skills in Tetris ;) nobody had a chance to beat her highscores ;-)

  16. Ohh wistrel; that race game was actually the second game I ever played. It was on the same 1.44 disk I got :D

also note; that PoP2 is the one with the horse and the running between castles and the ghost heads and starts with fleeing persia on a ship.

Also seeing the old games you all are talking about makes me feel young again :yay:

Does anyone remember this game? : I'll describe.. It was like dungeons and dragons but that was not the name, or at least I don't believe it was. It was like a fps. You would roam around a maze/dungeon and at every turn you may encounter a creature. You could open doors where creatures may be lurking (you would get keys to unlock more doors). You would use arrows to kill them (and other armours and equipment). It was very low quality but back then it was considered high end. I believe it was for the apple IIe but can't remember. More then likely though.

  20. For a split sec I thought it was Hexen (beyond Heretic).

I've been thinking today about replaying the original hexen (with the Korax mod); hexen Kmod belongs to the list of my most favourite games.

Also good news; hexen has been officially stated as abandonware so you can basically play it for free.
you can find it on http://www.korax-heritage.com/
You can also find an RPG they made in the world of hexen/heretic; really cool, but dev progress is slow.
