Here's an interesting rumor: Activision is putting out a NASCAR game. When last we heard of the racing league's video game rights, they were held by Electronic Arts, but last year, EA said they had "no plans right now" to put out any more NASCAR games. We hear (through VG 247) that Activision plans to put out a NASCAR game, and that a game announcement is "imminent." Apparently, art and logos for "NASCAR 2011" popped up on developer Eutechnyx's website, but were taken down. Further evidence: The twitter feed of Eutechnyx's Dave Thomas who tweeted: "an announcement is being made soon about our plans." and "if it is a NASCAR game, then we would haves a good selection of paint schemes per driver." and "should be a big week." There seems to be a big chance that this rumor is true. My question: Does anyone care? I'm always hearing about how NASCAR is an incredibly popular sport, but at the same time, I don't know anyone personally who follows it. Is this because I live in Los Angeles, and am surrounded by elitists who follow high class sports like basketball and football, or am I right in thinking that NASCAR's popularity is massively over-hyped? How out of touch am I, readers? More...
