Ubisoft revealed today that the first episode of the recently announced Rayman refresh Rayman Origins will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this Christmas. According the game's official blog, the initial episodes will be PS3/360 only, however Ubisoft isn’t ruling out bringing Rayman Origins to Wii, Nintendo 3Ds or even iPad. On Ubisoft’s Ubiart blog, the developers previously explained the decision to favor HD consoles at first was because “the game already runs in this incredible image formate and this really highlights the artist’s work.” The devs go on to say that this decision “doesn’t prevent us from thinking about other consoles but we are a small team so we need to set priorities.” And they aren’t kidding. Ubisoft has just five extremely talented developers, including Rayman creator Michel Ancel, working on Rayman Origins, and if you’ve seen the announcement trailer then you know just how insane that really is. On the other hand, it shows the robustness of Ubiart Framework, Ubisoft’s new development platform that will go open source sometime in 2011.
