One of the big pre-E3 rumors this year was that Microsoft was getting ready to announce a deal with Hulu to provide its many, many hours of TV and movies to Xbox users. E3 came and went, and Hulu wasn't mentioned once. Today, the rumor has re-appeared, except now it's the PlayStation Network that is said to be on the verge of offering Hulu.

According to Bloomberg's unnamed, insider sources, the partnership could be announced as soon as next week. The deal will, apparently, allow PSN users to pay to subscribe to Hulu's upcoming premium service. The price: $9.95 a month.

It would not surprise me if Hulu rolls out on both the Xbox and PS3, as well as every other service. From Hulu's point-of-view, it's a win because their install base grows amazingly, and from the Sony and Microsoft's point-of-view it's a win because it's another use for their online platform. The question for you: Are gamers the winners or the losers? On the one hand, it's another option for watching your favorite programming, but on the other hand, it's another thing to subscribe to every month...

I can't wait for the glorious near future when we'll be able to instantly watch any movie or TV show on earth, the instant we want to watch it, for one monthly fee. It's coming people -- it's the logical conclusion to current trends. Until then, though, get ready for a few years of crappy, failed attempts.
