Well, I managed to get to Planet Cyrene, and it's certainly different, and fun to explore. It's located S of Calypso or W of Arkadia. Did some screenshots, will post them up later.
I created a new character to explore a bit to (No PEDs for a trip). The visuals were ok, the world seems to have enough variation, though Janus looked really dull. And then, I was smacked in the face by greed. I spawned without a sweat extractor (don't know if this is a bug or not). Then, after the second NPC I was told to go and buy some TT stuff. All the other NPC's gave me paid missions as well. I went to the Cyrene forums to read a bit there.. Paid PvP, with all new PvP-only gear. The rewards are also PvP-only.. (Greed might be exaggerated, but I don't know how else to describe this) I was actually expecting they would create something that newbies without PEDs could enjoy, except for walking around hoping they will find some stones or fruit.
Thx for the info, I've not explored that much in-depth yet. So you have to pay to do missions? One thing I did find out about were moving plant mobs near TPs :)
A few days ago I posted the thread Guess where Cyrene will be as I really wanted to get some clues from others on EP :) At that time I was on Next island, but something told me that maybe my own initial guess was wrong, so I went to Arkadia just hours before the launch of Cyrene... Anyway, here's some pics of my journey. After materializing near Planet Arkadia's space station, I looked at the map of EU space and realized that Cyrene was directly W of there, so started going in that direction. This is the first view I had of Cyrene taken in 3rd-person view at just after 3:36pm MA time. Second shot of Cyrene split-seconds later in 1st-person view. This is why I was going along the top of that squared-off area, because I knew it was out-of-bounds, but somehow I went too close anyway and had the warning 'You cannot enter deep space.' Just about to turn left at any moment, he, he :) One of the first views of Cyrene after paying the 2 PED entry fee. The trip had taken me about 49 minutes, which is not bad in a Vtol. TP map of Planet Cyrene. The TP's shown are probably just the 'free' one's. A Miner 49r Bot at the first TP area that I arrived at. So far I've found one of these at all TP's that I've gone to. The TP area I first ended up at was Southern Base. These are L3 Sprouted Dire Weeds. They are moving plants, and as soon as you've killed one, another replaces it. From what I've seen so far, Planet Cyrene is very interesting and with many features that set it apart from other planets in EU. However there are some server issues; I was logged-out twice for no apparent reason, maybe because this is the Beta version of Cyrene.
I might have worded it wrong. You don't actually have to pay to get a mission. The mission's are all along the lines of 'shoot x amount of mob y', 'find x amount of ore y' or 'craft me item x'. So, no nothing a newbie can do, as he is spawned without a sweating tool. (I haven't explored the whole world yet, so I might have missed the free quests.) What it comes down to is, that after the second mission, I was basically told to deposit.
No, no - you didn't word it wrong, I was just wondering if it was true you had to pay for missions as I didn't go up to any mission npc's myself to find out... So anyway, you have to Deposit to carry on with missions? I'm not a big missions fan myself, preferring to hunt my own way :)
yer - what a name :) The funny thing about them is, I think they're just for target practice as they don't really give much damage and can't run after you :)
