Greetings from NooB

  1. Greetings and 93. Haven't been this impatient over something in a long time. I am really looking forward to this. I decided a little ago to join the EU, and start playing, but then I found this world was opening, and chose to wait. I figured a fresh start on a new world, seemed like a cool idea...Can't wait...

Oddly, a little nervous too...since I have not played any world yet... But that's the fun...Explore new worlds, new creatures, kill them with big guns..ooops, sorry that mass effect 2....

    Welcome to Next Island :)

You will likely be one of the very first (non-veterans) on the planet.
Alot of people are really looking forward to it as well, but they have already played.
If I was you I would read alot of the tutorials on planetcalypsoforum.com and entropiaplanets.com and ask questions on both of them as well as here.
    Things that I would expect to be the same will be;
The basic controls, (check out this thread of video turorials, Getting started on RT videos )
    The basic hunting/mining/crafting stuff

Things That I expect probably wont be the same or not implemented yet when it opens,
Missions (they may but im not expecting them to be there on opening day)
A full range of items/loots/weapons/armor/etc that are planet specific. (they may be, but seeing as how Rocktropia went I doubt they will be there opening day)

Things im not sure about (really Im not sure about anything though :P )
Vehicles - I dont know if they will work there or not, or if there will be next island specific ones or what
Time Travel - I dont know how that will work, but since its one of the main attractions of the planet would guess it will be there opening day.

Don't let the mod tag next to my name fool you, im just a volunteer here, and am as eager as everyone to find out what is going to be presented opening day :)
If you are patient and understand what you are getting into (opening beta) then I think you could have a long and successful carrier on Next Island, Im sure there will be some bugs etc... but as one of the first, you will know more and be able to get your finger on the pulse of the economy which is truely what entropia universe is all about.

General things to understand to have the right perspective entering into this universe.
It is a complex economic simulator wraped up to look like a pretty MMO. Play it like an economic simulator and you can have alot of fun with out spending too much money. Play it like a normal mmo with no regard to the economy and you will still have fun, but it will cost you alot more. Play it expecting to make money or get rich quick and you will get frustrated and angry very fast.

Players who have studied the game have come up with an estimated 90% return rate on most activities as the average. That means that in the long run the game developers get 10ped for every 100ped you spend. That means that if you spend 100ped hunting for an hour you will on average get about 90ped back, it cost you 1usd for an hours entertainment. That is fine and pretty reasonable, but it doesnt stop there. If you can find people who need the items you looted and sell to them either p2p or via auction then you can recoup some of that 10ped you lost. Suppose you sold that 90ped of stuff for 105% you would actually get 94.50ped and really only lost .55usd for the hours entertainment.

Play the game for the long haul and look at the big picture, it is very immersive and addictive :)

You might also google "alice in wonderland entropia guide" its somewhat outdated, but probably still the most extensive guide to date.

Good luck as one of the first and have fun :) hope your patience and research pays off,

Sorry, narfi, but Alice's Guide to Planet Calypso is NOT outdated. :p

Alice is working on it and is atm a Community Adviser in the Calypso Gateway.

So, this Guide is written with Calypso in mind, but the basic stuff is the same. Just the location is different. We don't know, where the NAZ on NI will be. So if Alice writes about Port Atlantis, then it is the best possible way to do at the moment.

  5. 90% return??? Hogwash

  6. Thanks for the info.

One of the things I am looking forward to in this game is the complex economic simulation of it. I have a great deal of patience (for some reason) and I like long, complex games. I don't get bored doing mundane things as long as there is a return, (even a very small return) in doing them. So I am really looking forward to playing this as a long-haul type game. Something I can continue to play a year from now, and still be entertained.

And really, if you end up putting 10 USD into a game every month, or every week even, it is STILL VERY cheap entertainment, I mean a movie is $20+ if you add popcorn and a drink, and that is for only 90 minutes of entertainment.

It also sounds like a nice challenge, which too many games actually lack these days...

Yes softheart i truly believe it is around that. But only if you are willing to cut every pec of fat off of your setup and truly grind. I have 3 different threads of tracked camping on planetcalypsoforum.com as well as countless others there which all come up with similar results.

Those were on lower level mobs (merp & drones) and after markup I was breaking even for those projects. I havent tracked anything since comming to Rocktropia, because I havent had time to camp much, ive been mostly trading and helping new players. But I did have about 2 weeks where I hunted Dragons hard, burning about 1000ped a day on themat about 12ped per kill, and though i didnt track it, I think my end result was very similar to those projects that I had tracked.

None of us can control the return rates we get, all we can do is control how much it costs us to get them (being as eco on weapons and armor/faps as possible) and figuring out where the niche markup items are and target them IF you determine that the markup of those items at the drop rate you can get them will offset any of the losses you have decided you will incure by hunting them.

Basicly if alot of people are doing something it wont be economical for you to do it, since they will all be trying to undercut each other in the market place. Find the hidden secrets in every situation and you can prosper, but its very difficult to find them since everyone else is trying to do the same thing.
