Planet Cyrene: Guess the launch date for Cyrene - Contest!

To be honest... this "Soft Launch" stuff is not what I based my prediction on... anyone could do a "soft launch" at any time really cause it doesn't matter what sort of state the game is actually in.

We've been hearing for years what sort of high profile mega media launch Cyrene was planning on... this soft launch doesn't sound like "it".

I still doubt I've got it right or anything but for the record I wanted to say my prediction was for the OFFICIAL LAUNCH DATE, not some sort of under-the-radar covert "soft launch"

Technically speaking, I would say this was probably the first (of many more disappointments) - it was bound to happen though ;)

I would like to make a few comments:

(1) Cyrene rewarded the individual(s) who guessed the "intended" release date, as well as the date related to the decided "soft launch" date - which is quite fair. The "soft launch" was decided to allow for open testing to make sure that everything works the way it's intended to, and also because the window to launch to take advantage of the marketing/PR plan in accordance with a major event was missed.

(2) The decision to do a "soft launch" was a wise decision given the circumstances, and gives Cyrene an opportunity to take full advantage of the marketing/PR plan that's been in place for quite some time. The "hard launch" will be in conjunction with a different major event, and that specific date has not yet been released.

In addition, the plan has always been to launch with a focus on new players. Therefore, it makes sense that a developer is very calculated in the decision-making process to have the most effect in reaching as many individuals outside of the EU environment as possible.

I think many who have been participants in the EU environment may agree that it's best to have as functioning a planet as possible, as well as draw in as many new participants as possible.

Therefore, with all due respect to your personal opinion, I think it's a bit unfair that you label the decision as a disappointment. Many have been anxiously awaiting for Cyrene to launch, but having something functional is quite important, as well as taking advantage of a well-planned marketing/PR endeavor to attract new participants.

I would like to encourage you to wait until after Cyrene is launched and have your experiences prior to making judgment.

OK so I ruffled MS9's feathers but good to see Tass has related similar views at least. I want to say a few things going forward though. All I was getting at really was that, for the purposes of this compo I was voting on the "all singing all dancing" launch not the under the radar launch we are getting.

It doesn't matter what happens later though or how wonderful or not the planet is, as MS9 says, I'm entitled to my view/feelings and so therefore say I feel mildly disappointed (at this moment) that we won't get exactly what has been talked about for so long. No one can make me feel "less mildly disappointed" by disagreeing with this feeling. I'm Just stating my own feelings. I'm not getting at anyone or asking for an apology - I understand perfectly why they've done it and even agree that a beta test is potentially a good idea. In fact Entropia is so small that its possibly one of the few MMO's where you CAN get away with just "unlocking the door" without telling anyone and no one other than the fans will notice.

But hey that's life (or certainly Entropia) so no biggie. Its not really worth making a fuss over. As regards the compo as I said was likely, I was wrong anyhow cause SDCC isn't in September ;) From reading Ed's (most excelent I might add) post it sounds like there are some features they are launching without (eg new ava's) which is again something I had originally thought they were unlikely to compromise on hence my feeling september would be a likely release time.

All this aside though I'm very aware that these guys have been on the spend now for several years and are not yet to see a penny income.... I realise games take time to make now but someone's got to be asking questions sooner or later especially as prior "launch" windows were years ago.

I must confess I didn't envisage proper launch being so looooong and thought people saying years at start of competition were idiots. So I do apologise for my thinking :)


I'm sure Cyrene will launch one day. Does it really matter what date? not really. When it does launch I'll be lookign forward to perhaps paying it another visit.

It will be a glorious day when this launches hard.... errr when the launch is hard.... ummm..... its hard on launch??!!
