Hangars - facts and speculations Disclaimer: The theories/speculations presented here may be 100% incorrect. The following are some facts and speculations about hangars. If your ready for some crazy theories here we go ... Fact 1: Inside hangars are "Trade-Bars" Speculation: Could trade bars be an indicator of a drinks system? MA have mentioned in past about their intrest in a food & drinks system. Why on earth would someone come up with trade bar if only to have auctioneer and TT terminals? Looks a bit fishy does it not? Fact 2: Next to the trade bar is a door. At the side of the door there is some kind of fingerprint/hand detector. Speculation: In the old hangar system you could walk into this room and it housed some of the hangar components. Could this door be an entry point to some kind of dungeon? Why can't we walk inside it now? Perhaps because the specific dungeon system for this is not yet developed? Fact 3: Next to the repair terminal there is a table. This table has on top of it some kind of unknown tool/device. Shares some similarities with an rk-5 but is very different. Speculation: Could this be an electronic hacking device? or some type of electrical repair tool. Note it has two data type ports at the front. Why place it on a table here in a hangar? Fact 4: Hangars have some type of fuel tanks. Speculation: Could these be refuelling stations for spacecraft which may require a different type of oil in the future? Fact 5: Some hangars show a location banner. Speculation: Why show a location banner for no reason? Could it be to show where you are once you return from a dungeon instance mission? Fact 6: The privateer looks nothing like the old hangar ship. According to privateer owners contained no fuel. Speculation: The privateer is not the hangar ship. Instead it's merely a gift given to hangar owners to give them warp capability. Could other ship(s) which do not have warp capability be given to hangar owners? Which work in conjunction with a hangar instance/dungeon? Could explain why privateers were not fuelled. Note the author is a hangar owner and the speculations presented here may be completely incorrect. At the end of the day a person can look at only the positives or negatives. Personally I tend only to see the positives with regard to hangars. A person see's what he wants to see. I could list more positive speculations but don't you know too much speculation is bad ;) Perhaps by writing this it will cure my addiction to buy more hangars...
I think a lot of this is simply in-game aesthetics to make EU look realistic. Over the years you've found examples like this all over EU that seemed to have or may have had a particular future purpose, but that in eventuality never did anything, or were never actually used for anything. It's just in-game props tbh... For instance, before the SGA, there were drinks-bars; stocks'n'shares listings in the old Hadesheim, etc - but they were just for show.
Or maybe not necessarily just for show, but made with a potential purpose in mind that never got implemented. Maybe now that Calypso has a dedicated PP, they'll get back to some of these things and give the hangars a purpose again.
Very nice observations :) I agree with some here, that lots might be for the looks only, but some also feeds very valid questions.
Question is how long 2 months, 1 year, 10 yrs, 100 yrs, 1000 yrs :-) Fingers crossed Let's take it to it's logical conclusion. For example take the unusual device on the table if it's just decoration why would an under staffed development team go out of it's way just to develop a small model with intricate details just for decoration when they have far better and more important things to develop? Though MindArk don't talk to us perhaps they do place some clues for us in game of things to come. Not the first time I've heard that :-) Probably not the last either
This thread is hardcore nice find, I should spend more time in game myself to spot things like these.
Perhaps they hoped someone ... like you ... would start a thread about it and create some conspiracies and hype and make things even more exciting?
Ace losing it, never I say, he never had it to begin with, so he can't lose it! Awesome observations :)
Fun little article Sadly I feel we won't see any more point to hangars ever. I remember there was a preview video where they had roofs that opened though... Did anything ever come of that? I think ultimately the privateers and the UL booster is all the owners got. The UL booster was a good gift at the start at least when they were really expensive. Even now its an advantage
Good point. Except people keep things to themselves. This condition isn't helped by the fact Calypso team tend to encourage this by logging in to twins or some other city and telling people there on at that time some things. People there sometimes share sometimes not and if you weren't online at the time pretty much hopeless situation for you to get any decent info.
Sadly I hear that from just about everyone, even those I consider to be sensible. Am I the only rational person left with some faith in MA? because ultimately I guess that's what it comes down to. Before we had a hangar system that could generate some income and now we have a hangar system that generates virtually no income. Surely you can see a big discrepancy there? Don't you think that's wrong? Surely MA see that and will eventually do something about it?
Perhaps sometime in the future, maybe 2-3 years from now Kim will get around to completely redesigning the hangars because the current hangars were made in SEE's vision and not AR's. I still haven't found the switch to open/close those doors and the front hallway is still bugged lol... =(
Why would you think they will address this situation, George? MA has many times taken decisions that screwed over lots of people financially, and very rarely shown they actually have any amount of compassion for thei very people paying their bills. There is a very valid reason why everything MA does is met with an extreme amount of skepticism, and frankly, they have only themselves to blame for it.
Does it need explanation? Very well :-) Because the present situation is wrong. Hangar owners have been short changed big time but remember I really do think they will do something about it. They have left plenty of clues here and there for us. Some of which I have mentioned above. Which suggests to me they always had a plan to do something with the hangars. You have some valid points there. Sounds like the making of another article to me. Perhaps it would be an idea to gather past grievances and see what became of them. The one that comes to my mind is the tiering change. I was one of the people who lost out because I had tiered some items on the old method which was considerably more costly and risky.
I more believe they make stuff up as they go. There's virtually no other way to explain all the loose ends (orbs, atrox egg, hangars, etc. etc.). If some things eventually get addressed, it probably is more luck than planning. And all the time they are sitting on their egg (see what I did there?) Estates that got switched around during CE2 upgrade was another one. Prior to that, Lykke and I owned a booth we paid a premium for due to it being located very close to the TP. After the VU, it was almosty impossible to find. There's also all the tamers who are still waiting for their investment to be unlocked, 2.5 years (!) after the CryEngine update. The tiering was another cockup. As was rare scanners suddenly dropping candy. The list goes on and on.
Well they may have had a few problems in the past but now we have a different guy in charge - David Simmonds. He seems like a nice guy so there is still hope :-)
Perhaps there is no hope after all. Kim Posted this on 22nd November 2012: posted here: http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/showthread.php?235019-hangars edit: another reply by Kim:
