HOFs are random, right?

If Hall of Fame results in mining, hunting (which I guess is based on total value in the loot window?) and crafting is sort of random, than isn't the premise of watching for trends in the randomness, however well intentioned that site may be, kind of pointless?

It strikes me as kind of like the statistical nonsense in the newspapers where they talk about the state lottery results and numbers that are "on a hot streak" or "due to surge." (yes, we have nonsense like that in the newspapers in the US.)

That someone hit a huge deposit of iron I wouldn't think would be indicative of a sudden rash of iron deposits, right?

(However spammy the HOF messages are in my ingame chat window, I have to say I about fell off my chair to see someone get a mineral deposit worth 32 thousand and something PED. I mean, that's a lot of whatever.)

As for the spammy HOF messages, at some point someone reassured me that I was only seeing NI HOFs and it would be worse for it to be global. I have seen some that were from Space Stations, I think....FOMA? Fortuna? Also "Hell." Not having been to space, are those just close to NI so they show up?

  2. While I'm at it, I'm also keeping track of mineral and ematter hits I find, I abandoned doing that with ground spawns when assured those do not respawn in the same place. So far my mining attempts have been pretty spread out, but I do have a couple places I have repeatedly sounded, and have had some of the same minerals appear but in slightly different spots. If I kept up on the same basic place, would I tend to find the same minerals, but in a patch like a circle area or something? Already backing away from the idea that the hit would be at the same exact spot coordinate-wise.

For instance, on the slope north of Sensor Gamma (Brown Papoo wave spawner) I've hit Crude Oil twice, at 136229,84675 and 136190,84627 and that's fairly close together. 61 meters apart. Are those likely to be the same "patch" or just two instances close together? I guess over time I can make more attempts there and see if a rough outline presents itself.

Q: If Hall of Fame results in mining,.. of watching for trends in the randomness, however well intentioned that site may be, kind of pointless?

A: Picture a multi tier roulette wheel.... depends on if you have deposited, when, how much and where, skill, and time played

Q: It strikes me as kind of like the statistical nonsense in the newspapers where they talk about the state lottery results and numbers that are "on a hot streak" or "due to surge." (yes, we have nonsense like that in the newspapers in the US.)

A: its to promote the "if they can do it i can" philosophy.... and to give people the thought of making money...

Q: That someone hit a huge deposit of iron I wouldn't think would be indicative of a sudden rash of iron deposits, right?

A: there are mining trends.... and an area may be hot and cold like a clock, so a global would mean "game on"

(However spammy the HOF messages are in my ingame chat window, I have to say I about fell off my chair to see someone get a mineral deposit worth 32 thousand and something PED. I mean, that's a lot of whatever.)

(they fell off of chair too)

Q: As for the spammy HOF messages are those just close to NI so they show up?

A: the globals are from the planet you are currently on, the hof's show on all planets.... if you never see a global.... its bad

  4. minerals always pop up in the same region, the exact point and depth will change.... the respawn rate and time may change a little but, but generally is the same. if you see ground loot, try mining it... seems to be a better than not chance of having something there. ;)
as for veins NI, Arkadia, and RT have great veins.... foma.... not really, too hard to find. but for a vein drop another probe under the pin of the mine you found. ore for ore, enmatter for enmatter... when you find another mine, drop another probe under it... most veins are 2-3 have heard of veins over 15.... happy mining 8)
also save your old finders.... some areas will always be better at certain depths, and finders tend to stay closer to their max ability... play around with it...
dont drop your mines too close together either.... if running, after the last mine has indicated nothing there, count to 10 before dropping again, <i tend to use a f-103, count to 10, and switch to a tk320 for example, switching back and forth, so i have good distance in between the mines at that lvl... have had good luck with it,
    wandering or gridding..... your choice....

  5. That was me that told you about hof's and globals, maybe I mistyped the first time. You will see hof's from all over the universe, but globals will be from only the planet you are on.

  6. I guess I would say I have seen globals in the sense that sometimes they don't list a place. Just Somebody has found X worth Y. I suppose that implies "on the place you are on."

And yeah, I haven't been dropping probes all in a line. Usually use it as a break from hunting. I have maybe...50-60 sets of coordinates noted so far, I use both kinds of search so 30 probes at a time, it's expensive to mine! or it seems really expensive to me. I'll try the thing of re-probing of the particular type on that spot.

Manufacturing HOFs...a given item would have a constant TT value wouldn't it? I just saw someone make a level 2 finder amplifier light L worth 4334 PED. Would that be reflecting the manufacturing "loot" in addition to the product, like diamonds, prints, residue, teddy bears, etc? I'm guessing if you actually made items of different values they wouldn't stack? I've only ever made a few things but they all had a given value. If a really fortunate manufacturing combine made a super valuable component, no one would buy such a pricey item!

the amplifer was about 115 ped. the rest was in residue and gemstones. there may have been a blueprint or two.

whne you're mining, as chuck mentioned, it's best to space your probes. for myself, I do it by distance, rather than running time. I don't like running. it tires me out.

oh yeah, I forgot. HoFs and globals and such are random.

you can push for them, if you wish, but it involves taking a larger risk.
