I feared that this day will come

    Hello my fellow EuTropians,
    hello my fellow chronicle readers.

I'm back in game on a more or less regular base since 2 months or so. Was partly only before though. We saw a lot of changes coming with VU10. Some quit because they do not have the equipment to play, some quit because it is not 'their' EU any longer. Some quit because they do not have enough time. And perhaps a hundred other good reasons.
Fact at the moment is that most EuTropians I see online are former EuTropians. Una, Mora, Shadowfire, Potkuri, Antrav and so on.
So the CEO is let's say the last man standing ;)
I took over the leadership for the EuTropains from Shamys at a time where we had a vital soc life. Lot's of regular players, good team spirit, regular hunts. A year later we had a breaking point. The baby boom started. Phunk and Red, myself, Shearer (not sure) and perhaps some others where occupied by real life for this reason, others for other reasons. So our beloved virtual life played only the second or third role.
It is the nature of mankind that interests are changing during the lifetime. I'm not angry about, but happy.
I'm also happy to see that some still keep playing and doing their way. Una became our uber (yes, you are!!!) and I'm proud to had him in our soc and to saw his first global ever. As you know he was invited to the Rangers, a top 50 soc. Mora and a lot others went to finntropia revolutions and they are doing their way, Shadowfire became a reasonable miner at NBK Miners. Nutter founded her own soc, but as far as I know this is already history. Not to forget Anna, she was only a short period part of EuT, but now she is our volverine queen and doing well.
Anyway, the ones that are still playing doing a respectable way.

I will stay in game, more or less on a regular base.
But I have a question in mind since several months. What to do with EuTropians???
One one hand I do not like to disband the soc, perhaps someone is coming back wondering what happened. Retiring from CEO would make Erach the next CEO. But I didn't saw him for ages.
However, staying in soc would make it impossible to join a new on, as you know.
I was also thinking about founding a new soc called eu-chronicle or so. As a home for eu-chronicle fans. Not sure either and I think Phunk holds the rights on the name :)

    That's it, comments are welcome.

  2. It is a difficult decision, on one hand loyalty to what was and on the other there is no point having a soc with one active player! With the Tigers it was similar, for a while I was the only one playing now there are two others who have emerged from whatever rock they were hiding under, it's fun to have the chat but still it's not really big enough. I stick with the Tigers because people do turn up occasionally. It seems to me there are two ways a soc survives, the first is with dedicated players, people who have made EU a big part of their lives and have probably invested a lot in it, the other is to recruit new people all the time. Both are tricky. I guess when it comes down to it all you can do is go with your gut feeling for what you think will make you happier on Calypso.

I've been a member of EuTropians for quite some time. A great soc which helped me grow and love this game back then. I even managed to get a good position since I was active enough. But times change, RL takes the biggest part and EU no matter how great it may look, has lost me from a fan. I find it difficult to return. I wish it was easier, perhaps cheaper would be better to describe it, to keep on playing and enjoy the fan of it. How I miss those Soc Beacon Missions.. I loved that part..

My soc has been and always will be this forum. I visit here every day reading your posts even though I may not reply, I do not fail to click the "Awesome" Gratz button ;) I still want to remain a member of EuT even though I doubt I'll ever get online again. I leave every decision to Slarty for the change of name. Perhaps I may return to enjoy the company of my fellow soc mates. I have a lot of you in my FL. Unless it has been wiped out, I hope to see you ingame sometime...

PS. My first post in ages..., sniff :')

And then what happened to you?Compare that to a bad soc which helped him or her grow and love this game back. That is interesting:
said managed to get a good position you were active enough.
    Umm.
Where did times change RL take the biggest part and EU no matter how great it may look lost him or her from a fan?I don't see the difficulty.I hope that your dreams come true. What is it to you. Are you using Netscape or Explorer? You like that part.Have you told many people about your soc was and will be this forum?Once more? Interesting gossip:
said visit here every day reading my posts you may not reply you do not fail to click the Awesome Gratz button smile you want to remain a member of EuT you doubt you will get online.
    That's good information:
said leave every decision to Slarty for the change of name.
You seem uncertain. Would you recommend this action to a friend? Where did you get your you in his or her FL? I have a very nice The Chronicle. Maybe. Is that your opinion? How did you hear about Talkerbot?
Do year old females have first post in ages? What do you have that is ?

  7. As much as I would want to see my beloved first Entropian soc live on, I do not want you to stay just because of this. If you feel you like to move on you should do it, no doubt!

However, I don't think the soc has to be totally disbanded because of that. You say Erach will automatically be the new leader. I see Erach logging on to this forum every once in a while, perhaps he could then remain leader until any former member comes back and then log on to hand over leadership to that person. To save the soc from completely dying out I mean. Or if not Erach, someone else that is not active ingame at the moment but keeps logging on to the Chronicle.

In case any old member returns they would have to visit the Chronicle to understand what's up though, but hey it's better than nothing I guess.

  8. Hi All,

I think our beloved EuTropians is like an elderly and sick relative - well loved but perhaps it would be better if it ended.
I like to remember the times we had, not the 'quiet' caused by the good reasons you guys identify above.

On that basis, I think we should let EuT 'pass away peacfully in it's sleep'.

As for an EuC forum, well there is a kind of society going on here anyway. I'm not in the game enough for it to serve as an 'overhead advert' although that would be nice. I think though it would be better for active players to seek their own way in the game, and share their experiences here with us.

Of course everybody's societies are welcome to set up their home here for free (Apologies to Iron, as I seem to recall I never got around yo yours :( ) and maybe in that way there remains a 'super society' of some sort?

Thanks to everyone from the EuT and especially slarty for all the hard work and leadership!

  10. Well said, Phunk.
That's what I think, roughly. Let us remember the "good old" times. My decission is more or less clear now. But I'll wait a bit, perhaps someone drops in here to give a comment as well.

    IronKnight Let's go shoot something!

It is ok, I have not played EU in 6 weeks, just can not enjoy it as much after the "Frag Update"

Nothing better then killing an Atrox Old Alpha ang getting sweat or frags for it :)

  13. Well done slarty. It's took a brave man to face up to the future and do what has to be done.
I look forward to seeing everyone's adventures in their new societies!

  14. Hey guys. Funny, I logged in for the first time in ages not long after slarty disbanded the soc. I agree, the right decision, although it's a bit sad.

I've not been around properly for (checking spreadsheet...) just over two years now. I log in every now and then to make sure my account is still alive, but I find it hard to get back in to things. LOADS of things have changed, and it's a bit of an uphill struggle to re-learn everything and remember everything to do.

Still, maybe one day I'll be back :D.

    GL guys!

    Erach.
