LOL! My thoughts: Enable colonists to build their own homes or settlements (FO4). Federate with others to build bigger towns or even fortresses. Enable mobile homes. Ideas, sent to MA in 2011 if I remember right. Would be cool stuff for VR!
That's the trick! But what this means in practice... I've seen the source code. Whoa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sansar_(video_game) Now I don't understand why the Lindens forked off from their main product SL rather than upgrading it to include VR headsets (esp. with the power of their open source contributors). At least it seems MA isn't a decade behind, just maybe a year or two. What I don't understand is how they want to go about customizing all of this to the wants of business clients. In SL, all content is created by the user, in EU it's centralized. In SL you download everything on the fly because it can change any time, in EU everything is prefabricated and has to go through the central bureau. Therefore you can o.t.o.h. make a fast-acting game in EU, in SL you can't because the network load is so much higher. But we've held business meetings and attended courses in SL 12 years ago and I would choose that platform again. No idea how MA intends to go about adapting EU for such a purpose, the entire paradigm is the opposite.
Kinda off topic, but this reminded me that the enigma keys mission chain has been one of my favorites. MA definitely experimented with VR... there's some button in the game and Entropia shows up in my oculus library... I don't think it does anything though. I think VR could work for Entropia but it would be mostly a gimmick unless they added the ability to interact with objects, open doors, pick up fruit, fly spaceships. I think Sansar is dead now...last I heard the servers went down...There seems to be a lot of competition in the metaverse these days.
Didn't know what Sansar was before you mentioned it but it looks like it has an event today so suspect not dead... reminds me a little from their website of the first time I went to CND for a party. Good memory. SING 2 @ The Synema (Jan14) | Sansar Events Yeh I'd been planning on trying to see what MA did with VR in Entropia. I was expecting an unusable mess at best, and "simply not doing anything" at worst. I've not had VR hooked to my computer since they did the alleged VR support though so have yet to be able to try their (official) support, if indeed it is even, "a thing". I'm not actually sure I can even still hook VR to my PC. It's over a decade old (although is a bit like Trigger's Broom). Getting the software on required a bit of a workaround some time back, and that may not still work anymore. I'll try eventually I'm sure... hopefully before Untropia comes out at least! XD Wistrel
You're correct, It looks like Sansar is still up. I saw some article on uploadvr.com from the 23rd of December and the comments made me believe that they were shutting down. If anyone wants to give Sansar a try it is 2D and VR. Sansar has some Ready player one content Aech' Basement and Garage trigger's broom that's funny LOL. Yeah it's hard to get into PCVR these days. I'm running a Radeon RX 580 8gb and I can just get by with running them. Lone echo 2 was good but it could have looked better If I had better hardware.
Yeh I have a friend who constantly berates me for not getting a better computer but I don't want to move to windows 10 and nothing runs slow on my PC so I have zero interest in doing so. I've probably got room for one more graphics card upgrade before it's at the end of it's rope upgrade wise and I've yet to feel a need to overclock too. But yeh I think VR is probably mostly out on my current machine as things at least from occulus tend to want fancy features from newer processors that I don't have.
