    Yahoo Slurp

Yesterday, while waiting on MA to get back online I noticed that there were 36 Yahoo Slurp bots and one Google bot online here in the forum. As the web page was running very slowly I thought that this might be the reason so off I went to find out more about these bots, spiders, crawlers or whatever you want to call them. I guess they are not to bad and help the forum get recognized by the big search engines. Does anyone know what information these things collect?? Do they have access to any of our details?? Thanks for any replies.

Curiosity killed the cat but I hope it leaves Bunnies alone. :Beaten: :Nurse:

  3. Hi Bunny

I'll try to answer you as good as i can

First I wasn't able to catch the moment when 36 (slurping) bots where logged in but it sounds like some kind of error to me!
Usually you can see that a few bots have visit the forum during the last 24h but as far as i know never more then one at the time
However if you or someone actually see several bots logged on at the same time, pls take a screenie and i will contact Google or yahoo to see what they have to say about it.

Second the Bots collects "Forum info" in other words what you guys post on the forum, metadata entered by me about the forum.
What it DON'T collect is of course login names, passwords etc

Since i can't be online 24h a day :coffee: I encourage you all to post on the forum or pm me if you see och feel anyting funny on the forum.

  6. Well i can only confirm that we use a robot.txt file to restrain what the bots can access
However such file dosent limit the number of bots accessing the site

From the content in Bunny's link my conclusion is that Yahoo seems to have a bot problem and i will try to keep an close eye on the developement of this
