I noticed a performance boost, too, which is significant since I'm playing on a laptop at the low end of specs. Most of my icons are invisible still after clearing shader cache and trying out various custom settings like increased object quality. I expect it to be addressed in a patch shortly. I don't understand why they found it necessary to change around icon sizes, now I can't even find my stuff by memory until then. As often as I try not to get sucked in by all the bashing for the lust of it, they confirm patterns such as always breaking something else along with any fix or improvement. Sigh.
Do not underestimate a GTX 660 ! :O It can be very powerfull. I have one too. What brand you got ? ASUS ? MSI ? Gigabyte ? Windwos 7 or 8 ? 64 bit or 32bit ? Whats your CPU ? Whats your RAM installed ? I will help you play on HIGH again :) a.) Use latest nvidia drivers. b.) download "MSI Afterburner" and slowly overclock it. (dont forget to put fan to 100% and disable "auto") c.) Play Entropia on high again @1920x1080 (just dont use the view distance slider, as MA truly fucked this one up)
I was on a 560 but had a very kind friend donate a 680 to me. Everything is fine. After the update, I think maybe things run better... although a lot of grey and white for first 60 seconds or so. Honestly though I don't know... I think things look better though and the anisotropia... shit I did it again! anisotropic filtering made a very noticable difference to the floor when looking forward. What does seem worse though is the overall resolution of the textures. You don't want to look directly down when standing or get close to a wall now, it looks like 1 pixel per 100 pixels square in real terms. I have everything on max. AA on 4x and AF on 8x. Sure the fan was going some but I know I have general cooling issues anyhow. Computer needs a spring clean. Wistrel
Unofficial 15.8.5 Release Notes: - Holding items pose/animation is fixed. Avatars no longer look like someone broke their shoulders when they hold a scanner/FAP for example. - Camera is no longer blocked by NPCs - The advertised smoother "time of day" update is not constant, instead it occurs at intervals where upon everything transitions from one time to another over a few seconds. This has the unusual effect of making you feel like you are present in a time lapse photography video for a few moments every now and then. It is, none the less, an improvement on "jumping all the shadows to a new position" but can be a little disconcerting until you get used to it. Known Issues: - We lied about including a new action to hide all the HUDs. We instructed our support team to lie about the capabilities of existing functionality for hiding HUD items instead. It was cheaper and involved less developer time.
That is what i try to avoid. Hate noise of fans and in summer is too hot in pc room. When playing EU CP usage is about 13 to 15% I'm on Asus P8B75-V with 8 CPU Intel core i7-3770 @ 3.40 GHz, 2 hard disks one is ssd, 16 GB memory, Win 10 pro 64 bit, NVidia GeForce GTX 660 with 2GB GDDR5 memory etc. Comp is old about 3 or 4 years and i had always same problem with EU - on medium or high settings gfx fan tend to work at 100% all the time. So i prefer to play on low settings instead to have fun with fan noise and heat.
Ah well...I have 2,6 GHz i7 920 6 GB RAM normal HDD Win 7 64 bit PC is form 2009. Also I have SLI GTX 660 EU only uses 1 card of it. My PC is a piece of junk compared to yours. Something is not right with your PC. :p
Since we are playing the "oldest PC" game ;) core2quad 6700 2.66GHz 6GB RAM SSD HDD Win 7 pro 64bit Nvidia GTX 680 2GB Entropia is running with everything maxed except for anisotropic filtering at 8x and AA at 4x because I can't really see much diff passed AF 8. I went to that newbie area the other night. Things seem "bearable" there now but there is still a massive frame drop. I didn't realise how bad until I went downstairs in the building then suddenly everything was super whizzy. I really wish they would put some work into this problem. There are not that many avatars I can see but tons on the radar. Surely they could optimise things so that the ones I am not looking at or who are behind something are not affecting my frame rate? Why is there a hit anyhow? Next priority maybe MA?
LOL! After all these years and all the experiances you're still optimistic MA would do a good job in optimizing their software? Congratulations! You are the winner of the "DREAM ALONG AWARD"! No offense, Wistrel. But seriously, they won't - or worse - can't handle such issues in a professional way.
I wouldn't say "optimistic" but if I am to believe "Admin", MA staff come here so maybe my comments are read. I know they did some stress testing a while back too and said they got some useful info... I guess no I wouldn't say I am "optimistic" as such and yes, I don't know what resources and skills they have at their disposal to sort things. The actions of what I term "the details guy" have not gone un-noticed by me though. I know someone is addressing some of the things that are on my personal radar. Stuff like the broken shoulders animation for example has now been fixed aside from one MF power. Someone is doing something - slowly, even if it is just one guy with a rag and spit. Wistrel
"Someone is doing something" is not enough. Quick or slowly. I was kicked into the arse so often by MindArk. I will never trust them again. And tbh ... they once had the chance to deliver a really extraordinary game. They missed the chance. In a stupid way. They won't get a second chance from my side - whatever they try. That's the bad old story of a deep disappointed love. No one can heal the wounds. Never.
Assuming he is the only one using that account ;) But actually I didn't really mean him specifically, more "people who administer the site" and can see logs and what not
Once "The Admin" said, that he could assure me, that MA is browsing here (frequently). Disregarding some "snitches", my publication of the Entropia EXE file got shut down quite fast by MA itself, because of security reasons. :p
It is just me using this account, yes. And yes, MA frequented this site quite regularly in the past. No clue if they still do. Frankly, I don't care anymore, either :) I just signed in, shot a few argos, and was bored within minutes. I used to spend every available hour in this game, and dropped thousands of dollars in there. I can't even remember the last time I made a deposit, nor the last time I spent more than an hour in the game. Both might be several years ago.
