is this all i have to look forward to?

  1. So i played for a day and a half, just sweating. so boring, practically no return. a solid 3 hours and I have just about 300 sweat, so extrapolate and in 10 hours, I could get 1000 sweat in 10 hours or so, which i could sell for maybe 10 PED.

so I deposited $10, bought myself a full set of cheapy armor, and a sword. started killing the hookers at rocktropia starting area. they drop stuff that's nearly worthless, but aha, my sowrd degrades, so about every hour, i have to repair it for 14 PED, but the drops aren't worth NEARLY that. providing I can find someone to sell to. I am skilling up like a mofo though.

So someone suggests I buy a gun. so I buy a gun. luckily, the hookers drop ammo sometimes, so i have like 20k ammo. which is good for some 120 shots. but of course, the gun does waaaay less damage then my sword.

long story short, it appears that i am destined to sink a ton of money into this game to keep doing silly crap like this, or I'll have to spend countless hours sweating. Neither of these options are going to work for me.

Am I just being stupid? am I doing something wrong?

    help, please :(

There is a right way to play and a wrong way to play. It's very easy like you saidf to loose all that you deposited.

I would advise you to join a society for newbies and contact ANF here.

Also decide on how much you are willing to deposit per month and never ever deposit above that. That's a sdtrategy many people use. You have to decide for yourself how you want to play.

    Good luck

  3. I posted to the ANF thread here, and am on the list, and i applied to the ANF soc in game, but haven't received a response.

If I end up liking the game enough to want to pay for it, I would be willing to put money into it on a monthly basis, but so far, it appears that if I paid standard MMO rates, approx $15/Mo., then I would blow through that in 5 days, max, and that is simply not worth it to me.

  4. I will say though, that I met narfi on my first day in game, and he was super super nice and helpful.

also saw neverdie, and thought it was really cool that the current superstar of the game was just hanging around. I've never any sort of experience like that in any other MMO i've played.

The fact that you ran into Narfi is a good thing - he's very familiar with ROCKtropia and has helped many new players.

As far as the ANF and the newbie society, I know that Dalas, who manages the ANF is deeply ensconced in his studies and is involved in field work, but does check in during the week, so maybe he has just been away from the computer for a bit. He's awesome at running the ANF and makes sure that everyone gets taken care of, so hopefully you don't have to wait long.

In the meantime, perhaps hang with some of the locals in the City of Dreams to gain more knowledge, or continue to post your questions at this forum for answers. However, you can also cruise the EP Wiki to gain more knowledge as well while waiting for Dalas to get you hooked up with the society list, etc.

Don't give up, and we'll make sure that one way or another you get taken care of. GeorgeSkywalker gave some good advice about not depositing more than you can handle, because this game can certainly be quite enticing. Don't be in a hurry to get somewhere fast, because it won't happen, and you'll only frustrate yourself. There is much to do and learn, and there's word that the questing system may be coming soon to ROCKtropia, so that too will give you something to do and earn rewards.

Hang in there, and I'm sure that this community can help you sort it out, but be wise about your game play. Learn more about the progression and what will work for you. Explore resources that will help you gain a better understanding of how things work, and then perhaps it will give you a better basis for decision making and the direction you want to go that suits you best.

Keep rockin' on ROCKtropia, and maybe if you run into Skeezer he might help get you some of the TP's as well. :)

  6. I don't know what TP's are. lol. teleport points?

I don't even know if it's possible, but would it be better for me to use the last of my PED and transfer myself to calypso? I don't know anything about it, except that apparently there's quests and stuff, and it's easier for n00bs there. I do, however, enjoy being in on the ground floor of something, like it appears I am on Rocktropia.

Sorry my dear, and yes ... TP = teleporters at various points around the planet.

Transferring to Calypso would be an option in the interim to at least gain some experience.

Are you at the City of Dreams now?

  8. RAZER

RAZER Custom title ... uh ...

Yes TP's are Teleporters and you have to find them first in order to use them, here is a map that with the TP's on ROCKtropia (link)

Because you signed up on RT, that apparently appealed more to you then Calypso, so I would suggest staying there for now. Just get to know the people and talk to Narfi a lot, he's great and I'm sure he will help you a lot.

To make your money last, play smart. This means use a gun that is good for your skills and hunt mobs that are in your skill range. Don't know much about RT, but the dancers and Wolves should be OK (better ask Narfi to be sure). Sell your look for Markup, this will give you another for % of profit (or less loss of course). Don't be surprised if you loose money on small hunts, but look at if in the big picture (sure you have a big chance of loosing money on big hunts to). If you sell the loot you get and but ammo with that over and over again, you should be able to make it last a while. You might wanna try Swunting. This is sweating a mob first until dry and then kill it, this way you will get sweat you can sell and a chance of some nice loot to. I would suggest to get rid of the armor, depending on what you have. If you bought the stuff from the Trade Terminal, sell it back to the TT again, that's rubbish. If you got Pixie or something, you might wanna keep that, but I would not use it for small mobs for now, sure you will not die as much, but you will have to pay to repair it to and if you hunt close to a revive terminal you will be right back in the action soon if you die.

Choose one type of weapon and stick with that, the beginners weapons don't differ to much in terms of decay and pec/damage. Sword decays more but doesn't use ammo, gun decays less but does use ammo, so not a big difference there.

Like MS9 said, ask questions, knowledge is the most important thing to have in this game. So get to know the game, the planet, the people, the items, the mobs. Figure out what to hunt with what weapon and where to find the mobs and you should be on your way for a nice adventure on RT !!

    Good luck

Lots of people will tell you what you should do.

Eco nerds tell you how to survive with $97.265 per mont instead of $100. They usually use the phrase "in the long run". Like in 1000000 months you'll save almost 3 million bucks!

Holy rollers tell you how to make insane amounts of peds using their methods. Those methods never work "because MindArk changed the system because they found out how it works".

Winkers give you hints made of air. They're easy to spot tho. It's the people who use dorky wink emoticon instead of fullstop. Ignore their advices. They know shit --> ;)

Gear progresser wissers are very close relatives to eco nerds, allthough they take Skill Increase Bonus into account. They are the crypric ones. Avoid them if possible.

    Etc.

Everyone is worth listening. Just be flexible and try to find your shit and you'll have great time. :)

sobered-up-(damn scapa!)-edit: Didn't want to sound harsh lol.

what i wanted to say is that i dare you: lose few peds now. it's cheaper now than at higher levels :)

Dalas ANF Master & "Death Limited" Healer

    Hey El :)

I had added you to the Newbie List already by yesterday, and gave you a response to your application in the thread. It was this:

"It's pretty shocking that you haven't heard about EU before, Elrohira, especially as you've been around in the MMO world for a seemingly long time (judging by all those names under your belt). I'm sure Entropia will appreciate some worldly (yeah, I clocked that: "or 10-11-2010 for you Europeans") and... Tall company :)"

As well as the stuff directed at the rest of the 3 people who applied at the same time as you. No worries though if you didn't spot that, all that matters is that I'm here and replying in this thread :)

I heard from MS9 that you had joined the ANF Newbie Society. You should hopefully meet your fellow members there who you will be able to chat to and ask questions. The only problem with this is that you are the only Rocktropian newbie involved in ANF (that I know of at least :D) so your companions will be on Calypso.

As for "all you have to look forward to", I think you have entered the Universe at a great time with a lot of stuff going on, but it's also important to realise that the Forums are half of what makes EU. Without that you are lucky to find out what is going on around the place. Learning what is available to you is also something you can do in the Forums.

I have no experience of RockTropia personally, but my girlfriend has been there and says it is a tougher environment for newbies, which I can perfectly imagine. Now on Calypso we have the Gateway and most of the knowledgeable, helpful people. There are however, some great emigrants who have made a start on looking after RockTropia while it finds its feet. It's also important to remember that RockTropia is actually a very new thing and like a baby, needs to crawl and fall down before it can learn to walk.

To get an idea, it would probably be beneficial to you if you met up with one of those pioneers (like Narfi for example) and, if they can spare you some time, have a chat and learn from them. I would also have no problem taking the time to chat to you about getting started and how you can form your personal approach to EU, whether that's via PM in this Forum or if you come to Calypso and want to meet up with me there, just let me know.

Definitely though, this is NOT all you have to look forward to. If what you described was the absolute reality of Entropia, no one would be here. There's a lot more under the surface :)

So, however you want to approach your dilemma, let us know and together we can come up with something for you. All I want is for you to feel comfortable here in Entropia and to actually want to continue here to succeed in your own way.

    Cheers!

    Dalas :afro:

  11. Make sure you join the rocktropia forum to be up to date with the events and anouncements. There is a market every 2 weeks where you can sell your loot (up to 50 peds) for full daily markup.
