Why do you call Next Island home? Some of you where born Islanders. Some of us moved here, mostly from Calypso. I ask simply what about Next Island appeals to you. For me the move from Calypso to Next Island paralleled my real life. I left a high stress career for a more laid back one in a smaller town four or five years ago . Leaving Calypso for Next island seemed like the only logical choice for me. What about you? Why do you call this place home?
Um good question. I think it was a combination of some appealing elements on NI (the time travel zones when they arrive) and definately the 'tropical island' feel to most of the place, along with just being massively bored with (and dissappointed with the progress made since VU10) Calypso and finding the graphics over there just mostly unappealing to me these days. Yes Calypso now has lots of islands, but it really isn't the same or as good imho as the ones on NI. My attraction to that tropical feel is a life long thing irl, and this element makes it easier for me to get 'immersion' and forget about rl stresses and strains for awhile when I play :) NI is also supposed to be 'different' in other ways as well, not so much about uber armor and guns, a million land areas of the rich (the one so far sort of fits the storyline about rich people buying an island lol), and more for the 'casual' or lower to mid level player, and that is appealing, since irl we all have enough of the elite ruling over us :)
truth to be told i was getting very tired of calypso.. same thing over and over, i hardly logged on anymore. then NI came, new content... i needed that to keep interest in entropia after all years i have been playing. i made alot more profit on calypso though... i turned 35 ped into 600+ ped mining, without getting a single global or hof :) i know alot of good spots to mine there. i tried mining on next island and the result was everything but similar... yesterday i deposited 6 times, and every mining run ended with a huge loss >< but what the hey, gotta spend money to know your surroundings so you can make money later, so i see it as an investment rather than a loss ^^ i love the creatures on NI, and my kids love them too :) on NI there are creatures they recognize, monkeys, boars, lizzards etc, so its alot of fun playing with them sitting on your lap :) so i get to spend time with my kids and play at the same time ^^ they love "helping me catch monkeys" and "search treasures" (mine) to me EU needed a big change for me to stay interested, NI gave me that change.
I came to Next Island for 2 reasons. One was planned. My girlfriend has been insistent about opening up a tiki bar in Entropia. A gay tiki bar. With tassels. Of course its just trashtalk but I'd be lying if she didnt have a tiki fixation. Couple that with my own desire to play a game with varied themes, one of them being the ice age, and Next Island was a natural winner. The second reason was the community on Calypso. I had always felt that community was lukewarm at best, hostile to new ideas and ideas that differed from the observed statistics and accepted modes of thought. For me Entropia the platform was interesting enough, but the community left alot to be desired. It needed change. But as the old adage goes its hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Calypso wasnt going to change anytime soon. Next Island however is a fresh start in a new land, and it makes good on the Entropia promise of being able to play multiple games on the same platform, with the same character. Im looking forward to what Next Island offers, and Im looking forward to its prosperity.
The opening of a new planet was my chance to get in on the start of something. When I joined Calypso it was around the time of VU6.x though it was earlier than alot of people, I still missed out on alot of things. I do still enjoy Calypso but the opportunities that come with being in on the start of Next Island is too great a chance to miss. I am thrilled to be lucky enough to win the auction on one of the first batch of Lodges sold. Winning sealed my fate to become a pioneer to Next Island. This was the kind of thing I joined too late to experience on Caypso. Although there was Rocktopia the dark themes and landscapes there did not appeal to me. Next Island with its familiar animals, beautiful landscapes of beaches, jungles and mountain is like a vaction spot. The music outside of Club ND is soothing and relaxing it almost comforts me during bad mining runs and soothes me during boring skilling sessions. Heres hoping to contribute positively to a new community, cheers everyone
To be honest, i wasn't expecting to stay on NI. I liked the setting and the idea of time travel, but when i show the Ancient Greece video i kind of lost incentive. Just didn't seem like it'd be worth it. Having visited Rocktropia the day it opened, i also didn't have much faith in the outcome given that it was from the same team, but i did give it the benefit of doubt since i knew that the rock had gone a long way since i first went there. All in all, i didn't plan on visiting Next Island until everything was set up and running. And then our soc leader decided to take us on vacations to NI and i was simply hooked from the moment i stepped my foot on now native soil. The atmosphere is simply amazing, the graphics and animations way better than anything FPC had to offer so far, and i finally found a community i could interact with. Before NI i was seriously contemplating minimizing my online time, although i hadn't yet reached the point were i'd leave the game. I had run out of personal goals that were compatible with my pedcard, and i simply couldn't find anything interesting to do except hunt, hunt hunt... Now though all that has changed. My new favorite activity is talking everyone's ears off at CND :) Who knows, some new players might even benefit from that :D
I wasnt impressed by the Greece video either. The architecture was cool enough, but the armor that was being worn was Spartacus. That concerned me a little bit. Having future armor in a past landscape would spoil it. Imagine some guy in Shadow armor cruising up to you and going "Hark. I am Socrates." It would make the entire experience of time travel rather trite.
I just wanted something new, and i loved hunting the sacred boars. They "dissapeared" but i quite enjoyed the landscapes and the "friendliness" i encountered up here. With the exception to a 10K kreltin mission I am trying to accomplish, NI will always be home from now on.
I came to NI to see the new content and liked what I found:) Several things appealed to me immediately, the team putting together Neverdie park have done a great job and it really does feel like a holiday destination. Although I'm a bit of a lone player the more openly sociable atmosphere made NI feel like a friendlier place from the start. It was also nice that Neverdie would occasionly pop in and patiently listened when players bombarded him with bug reports:) My mining experience has been almost the opposit of Jellyfish, I was losing money fast mining on calypso but got 3 100 pedish globals in the first week of being on NI. I didn't think I'd be here still but now I'm regretting not bringing everything I had in storage with me as it looks like I'll be staying for a while.
Well, I like it here because it remind me of places I have lived, and now I am living in Scandinavia it appeals to me with extra strenght. :) This weekend I showed the game to my parents when they came on a visit and my father confided to me that he wants to live on this place. It is beautifully designed, but they really need to fix the bugs.
