Just starting on Next Island *wave*

  1. Hi all, Gretchen Gretch Jarvis here! Currently on Next Island.

I signed up 8 days ago and have been enjoying life on Next Island, finding my way around and trying different things: questing, mining, 'swunting,' and just wandering around gathering teleports. I'm also on the Next Island Life forum, but right now I'm at work on lunch break and the very conservative web filter/firewall disapproves of everything fun and lovely in life, and this is the only Entropia Universe content I can seemingly find that isn't blocked.

This should not be seen as indicating this is a site of last resort or anything, I'm happy that I can surf some fun stuff about a new game I like while I'm relaxing on break. Anyone who has suggestions for other active forums besides these two that would be good for a new player learning the game, please do suggest!

Really enjoying the setting and learning the mechanics...in a lot of ways, this reminds me of some of the wide open spaces to roam and hunt in games like Anarchy Online, in fact very much so. Also the mining takes me back to my days as a prospector roving the plains of Naboo in Star Wars Galaxies pre-NGE. I even met another player (Next Island can be kind of empty) and sold him some mats! I need to learn about the auction market, and crafting...but there is time. Plus, I sold the mats that I could have tried crafting with, so...back to more mining. Also learning to "walk" to find ground spawn materials...that sure leads one to leisurely walks and extended appreciation for the scenery.

I'm prone to wandering, dabbling and staring at the pretty sights, so I think I will like the Entropia Universe planets very much.

(the icon I edited for EU forum use is at home, I expect I'll pop it in when my day becomes my weekend.)

  2. Hello there!

I like your attitude and believe you will have great fun in EU :)

Check out planetcalypsoforum.com, which is the forum for the planet that started it all, not so long ago there was only Calypso!

Also check out planetarkadia.com, which has the best background story so far, its a good read if you like sci-fi novels.

It looks like you have a good personality suited for Next Island.
It is a newer planet and still struggling with its economy, so it is important to approach it with relaxed wonder.

For specifics to Next Island their forum or this one are probably your best choices.
For general gameplay etc.. all of the entropia sites have their advantages and disadvantages.

I enjoy this one because it usually has a frendlier crowed less prone to drama.

If your work doesnt block it, you might take a look at my blog to waste some time.

Make sure that where ever you are to ask lots of questions. This game has a steep but rewarding learning curve.

    good luck and have fun,

  4. yeah, the advice I saw early on is, don't expect to learn everything overnight, and a real cash game, don't expect to make money, it's money you're spending to have fun like most games. I've been in "cash shop" games of a more conventional variety before, I just have to watch my budget. (Very easy to spend more on bunny ears and cute mounts than I would have on a monthly fee for a standard all-included MMO.) Gave myself starting PED but determined not to go nuts.

  5. then you will love entropiabay.com too :-)
it s not a spam, it s just very useful :-P

  8. Enjoying it so far! Just been wandering walking for ground spawns today, collecting TPs down southeast toward the ruins, and finishing up my 250 brown papoo quest as I go. No ground spawns, but the walking is scenic at least. Used up some materials trying a couple crafting recipes, just to see what crafting is like. Got some bp quality increases, some initial crafting skillups and a new activity tried. Fun fun.

Once I finish a couple of TP snags, I guess I'll just hunt and stuff for skill. I'll have all the TPs in this sector of NI that aren't out on the western plains, or up in the mountains to the north. I guess I could swim to that Neverdie island. Is that how people get there?

Us old timers usually tp there using a tp chip or fly or use a boat but the best method is swimming. I remember when I first started I used to love swimming and running around. I have some fond memories of those days, some of the best in game...

Nowadays us old timers are too lazy :) and just fly everywhere...

Once you've collected all the tp's I'd recommend doing the mission chains to go to Ancient Greece. It's intresting set of missions mostly go here and there talk to this person and that etc but I quite enjoyed it. No need to go to greece itself just yet I'd recommend saving that for later...

In the distant future if you need a ride to another planets or just to look at space give me a shout I'll give you a free ride in mothership. The mothership is worth exploring itself ..it's like a mini city inside :) For the time being though I'd recommend staying on NI it's a good planet for exploration although still under development. Lacks players but hopefully they'll get some new marketing started to liven up the place.

    Good luck on your travels.

hey you sound very suited to EU. Theres tons of areas to explore... not sure how varied the other planets are but Calypso certainly has a lot of different landscapes... best times to explore are early morning and late evening when the shadows are longest :D

I might go to NI soon so if so we should meet up and go exploring together. I'm an old player but about as skilled as a week old newbie :D
