The bickering is more entertaining then the battle itself. ;)

I would like to see space open up in EU to something so great that it will drive its own player base, and not just the pirating we have now. :D

That'd mean removing space being PvP.

Nope. ;) just bigger, better, more, and less bugs... Btw, I do not take part in the pirating aspect of EU, but I do understand its existence. Just need to remove the rotten apples like the recent malevolence group of individuals.

I would think that as long as all of space is PVP, and you stand to loose everything on you, there will be a large amount of people who refuse to set foot in it (including yours truly).

Another thing is that in order to have a big space battle, you'll need a lot of people to invest in spacecraft with weapons. Seeing all of those come at a real money price, and decay on them will be real money decay, I also don't really see that happening any time soon.

Lastly there's the question of whether the platform would be able to support a major battle like this. I'm not sure if the models are low-poly enough for that, and whether the vehicles can be colored or otherwise customized, which would suck up additional resources.

Seeing Twins is laggy as hell with about 50 people and some vehicles, I'm not convinced an epic space battle would be possible in EU. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though.

  7. Interesting coincidence Tass bringing this up... I've been looking up eve online for the last few days as I've heard about it for years on and off but never got round to doing any research on it - and yes, I read the same article on the space battle. There's no way that number of ships and everything that goes with it could be handled by the EU system at the same time. MA uses multiple servers that somehow have to be in synch with each other which is why we get lag, but eve online uses one server which happens to be the biggest game server according to it's developer CCP Games, and another factor - from clips I've seen on youtube and elsewhere, is that avatars don't seem to be in the spacecraft; so are not travelling with them - they control them remotely in some way from capsules. So in these eve online battles, it's the ships that become the avatars or characters which must help reduce lag even more...

THAT to me would be boring not to be able to actually be inside the ship in a space battle. I can remote control a flying ship IRL if I want to - in a virtual game, I want to be in the ship and feeling I'm in the thick of things - unless the visuals give you that feeling - I don't know, I've never played Eve.

In a Quad it's one thing, but in a Privateer or MS where you have a much larger environment with Gunner seats, etc., I would want to be totally entrenched and totally there for everything. :tongueout:

  11. It would be very boring - and would explain why they can get away with one server controling everything, but I could be wrong as I've not actually played it either. On youtube clips I just never saw avatars actually in them, so I got that impression. If you go to this link here you get a rundown of all the ship types and even the small one's are huge compared to say an airliner or cargo ship, so if avatars could travel in them, hundreds of them then, the lag would be huge for one server.
