A former colleague sent me an info about lithophane.

I thought this could be a nice project to test the new printer. I choosed a picture of my favorite hero from "Game of Thrones", Arya Stark:

I used it to make a relief with Rhino wich looks really terrible:

What I got from two hours printing is this:
    upload_2018-5-22_1-55-42.png
Now turn on the light. Aaaaaaaand ....

    WOW!
    upload_2018-5-22_1-56-51.png
Is it cool or is it cool?

Well, it's mirrored yet. But I want to use it turned by 180 degree with the flat surface above. Some remainings of printing can be removed easily. Since I work with PLA I need LED illumination because it don't causes heat. PLA starts melting at 70° Celsius (94° Braun). I will definitely make a new shade for our loggia-lamp!

Finally I will be able to solve the problems with my tablet. The goal was one stand with 80° and 20° wich can be folded to use it for travels. I got the basic design today.
    80°:

    20°:

    Folded:

I have to find a solution for a foldable crosslink.

Finally I found a solution for that foldable crosslink. Than I sat half a hour and looked at what I've done. And I thought: "What a lame and boring bullshit!" And I had a better idea imediately:

I will ask my modeler for a good model of a naked woman.
Tricky part would be to make the hip revolvable. At the other side it could probably be done with something like 10°-steps. Or I just ask the modeler for two models: 20° and 80°. And enjoy both without big effort ;-)

Well, I tend to make two versions of the tablet stand. The one above with ~20° and another one with ~80°:

I made this with Poser. Now have a closer look at the knees and the hip. This looks really bad. Probably I should try DAZ Studio again. Maybe it's better.

Too sad: My modeller got a fulltime job and has no more time to work as freelancer. Good news are: I found a new one immediately via Upwork. From Italy this time. It's so easy nowadays! Let's see how it will work.

Glad your modeller found work and that you managed to get a new one too.

In other news I saw an avatar in game the other day that I thought was well designed (a rare thing) and copped a good "attitude" look. Alas it appeared to be a sweat bot.

Well, even bots should have a nice appereance! (I Robot, Ex Machina)

Although I prefer a different look. Like this:

I just print a prototype at 60%. This is one single print. To learn more about the model and what to change probably. The new modeler is good and the new printer is better than the old one. And it was cheaper - LOL!

Better than expected. 60% figure with cardboard dummy of my tablet:

  17. sorry to ask, but that looks like my avatars face! :)

LOL! Yep, you are right. But it's by accident, believe me. My entire model looked different (see pictures above). This face is from my new modeler from Italy. My wife said that she should look more beautyful. But I like the face as it is.

    Best news of the day:
I was satisfied with the prototype and unhappy because the 1:1 model would not fit to my printers space (200x200x160) as I remembered my old printer offered. The figure is 200 mm wide. So I thought to scale it down a little bit. To be sure I measured the print bed of the new printer. And surprise surprise! It is 220x220 mm! WOW! I can print the lower and upper part each as one piece. I'm happy.

Haha, 220x220 mm! The print bed is bigger but the print space is the same. It is still 200x200. The printer just cutted the model at the border :-(

All in all it looks pretty good. Since I printed it at 0,2 mm I have some issues like this:
    upload_2018-6-11_0-26-53.png
I don't care much about it. I will test a fluid filler after vacation and metallic colour. And the final model will become really heavy because I will fill it with gypsum. Additionally I will send a few wishes for small changes to my modeler. Looking forward what will happen in two weeks after vacation.
