Next Island Content Release March 13, 2012 Today’s content offers new weapons and new armor for Greece. We’re also introducing Mutant Boar and the surrounding storyline, and there’s a secret Demra mission in today’s content as well. New Mob Head out to Morion Outpost to fight Mutant Boar! Missions Genetic Research 1 and 2 — Bess Mackenzie, out on Shepherd’s beach, needs some help in these chained missions. (Hint: Pick this up before you go hunting the boar!) Discovering Demra — Unlock this secret mission by bringing the Demra Slicer over to a history buff on Next Island. Items The Hoplite Armor set, an unlimited colorable, craftable set of armor that can be used in Greece and in tropical Next Island. Sorry, Greek explorers, we won’t have sandals or hand protection until the next release. We’ve added a finite number of the Hoplite Breastplate and Hoplite Armbands on the Greek minotaur and cyclops, so start slashing to get yours! The Hero’s Sword, Philosopher’s Sword and Archon’s Sword are new craftable, unlimited swords into the Crafting loot. They’re usable in Ancient Greece, and they’re a nice step up from the falcata you’ve been using. Fixes The Path to Greece: We’ve found that players who are unfamiliar with the vastness of the Entropia Universe are finding the walk out to Orpheus’ Cave to be long and confusing. Now, players going to Greece for the first time will have some more markings along the way. Player-Owned Estates: We’ve had so much trouble trying to sort out the bugs, our dev team finally just went in and redesigned the estates. If you currently own an estate, all the items currently inside — decor, furniture, retail items — will be found in your inventory. Blueprint Book Art: We’ve updated the art on the existing Next Island blueprint books. No changes have been made to functionality. Next Island Content Release | Next Island Dev Blog
Hey Meg, After the slight stutter start this morning (which I can't say didn't benefit me in some strange fashion), I have to say I think the storytelling you've introduce today has to be some of the best story content I've seen on any planet so far. I've been wondering what you meant by "special" for these last few months and I had a BLAST figuring out the little puzzles (the last one was my favorite and I got it on the first try). It all felt very serendipitous and sneaky and explained some questions that had been nagging at me. I have more to say but will save them for my post that is in the works. I took records of my journey and will eventually share them with the world but for now, I won't ruin the surprise. :D If people are interested in checking it out, they know where to find me! Again, solid work. And please keep it up. I like where things are going and hope I can continue to play a role in the future of my home planet.
the good ... - the new mission, nicely done, nice rewards - the new armor that's Colourable the bad ... - messing up shades bp and makin those uncraftable - praetorium still not findable by mining afaik or can see in AH - new armor bps again crazy reqs - speaking only of the quest reward one though I heard the otherz are similar (had 2 successes in 20+ clicks at the new greaves, almost starting to think someting is not right with that BP ) - new weap bps shy to show up, altough all armor ones did - sure those new UL weaps are added to the loot pool ? :p You have good content potential and you're showing signs of promise, but ... I have to say this, sorry : who in the name of all holy is developing and looking after ballancing issues ??? Meg, or who ever design these bps, please take 2-3h of your valuable time and PLAY the GAME ! See for your self how easy is to gather the various ingredients before asking insane ammounts of them for one click at a low-entry item that has no value except it's novelty ... Listen to your users feedback ... don't change something that works when they complain about something else (see shades bp vs weaps bps)... and finnaly understand your users are your CUSTOMERS and most of them pay REAL MONEY to experience your designs ... if u fail to understand that such threads http://www.nextislandlife.com/general-discussion/6115-bullshit-bp-ingredients.html will keep appearing till the point u can literally close down this planet or business :(
Simple, trying to be objective: (correct me if am wrong) NI wants their content to be not sellable, for personnal use only, forcing them to play months to get 1 example of each item and prohibit the resell of them.
Hope u're wrong :) ... cause that would mean a TT economy which in EU is simply not appealing to anyone No, personally I think they do try to build up a stable economy on NI and I admire the creativity they put in the content, but ... they lack understanding of game mechanics :( they try to increase activity by puting limited number of itemz in loot for example (see hoplite armor in cyclops & mino) when all they'd need to do is to address the engine of any EU economy : CRAFTING. That's what keeps things rollin, hunterz huntin, miners minin :) ... but a crafter won't bother hunting 4h and clearing AH of the few pieces of a crystal at 10K% just to get 1 click at an item unless he can sell that item for a good profit - and that's not the case with the current NI/AG content U want ppl visiting AG and spending they're peds there ? Simple, give crafterz a bp that would allow them to make for instance 100 clicks at an AG sword (an activity that right now requires ~1 month hunting in AG cause no way u can find enough mats for 2-3 clicks in AH : ) and sell the 40 they get for a reasonable MU that most can afford - then in turn hunterz would tackle the AG mobs with the nice swords, bring back huntin loot required in craftin, cash in the MU on their loot and so on ... that's the understanding totally missing in the NI development team atm imho :(
Sadly, I have to agree with this post and the other critical posts I've read. I really, really love AG, the story, the art, the music, etc. I like the pace of hunting and don't even mind the tt weapons grind of it. When I saw that there were new armors coming I was really excited and started planning to spend most of my time there. I finished the Boar mission not long after the first person did (according to the discovery time) and I took one look at the BP requirements of the Greaves and knew I wouldn't be clicking it. Nevertheless, I hunted all day and into the night hoping, but not expecting, to get a piece of armor to drop or at least to see the BP requirements start coming up in loot. I had some hope when one fat Cyclops dropped 13 moldavite, but that was it after all that hunting. Never saw Sele either. It also looks like Praetonium is extremely rare still too. After all that hunting and failure I still hadn't had enough punishment and disappointment. I decided to do a large crafting run and hope against hope that I might get the Hoplite helmet BP since I had saved up enough mats for about 5 or 6 clicks on it. After hundreds and hundreds of clicks and hundreds and hundreds of peds wasted I was the proud owner of many Bodyguard BP's and some crappy old L BP's. Yay. And, oh look, a Hoplite BP finally drops and it's..... the Greaves, the same one I already got from the mission that can't be clicked. Very poor balance. As I said, I really like AG and am really hoping it succeeds. Unfortunately, it's starting to feel more like a theme park or carnival to me. It's something different to do, there's prizes, and you know you are going to overpay for all the rides and games. It's fun once a year or so, but you get sick of it pretty quick and when you get home you usually dump all the cheap prizes in the trash. Please don't let that happen. Please look hard at the balancing and consider keeping some of the new armor in drops. If you want BP's with a lot of mats, use more (but different) kinds of crystals and less of each and make them somewhat common. I'm sure there are many, many stacks of unused crystals in everyone's storage. Why not require 8 or so different, but sort of common, crystals and require 2 to 3 each of them with a bit of Praetonium and some Mino or Cyclops parts? Sort of a challenge to gather, but yet we could make a decent crafting run and have extra armor to sell or trade. Wouldn't more common armor sets encourage more hunting and bigger mob hunting, and therefore more decay for the planet owners, etc.? I know a better armor set would encourage me to hunt longer and to go after bigger mobs. I'm not totally discouraged yet. The sunglasses BP was adjusted and, despite the bug yesterday, it sounds like it will be getting fixed again. I still have hope. But if something doesn't change, I know at least for me the time will come when I will stop stockpiling all the AG and NI junk in storage and just dump it in the tt. I'm sure I'd still come back once in a while, but only when I feel the need for a bit of a vacation from the rest of the planets. Thanks for reading my rant. Cent
I am so glad you're enjoying the storyline and missions! The Tropical Shades are a known bug, sorry about that. We expect to have them back to normal in the patch: Known Issue: Tropical Shades Blueprint | Next Island Dev Blog Last VU's blueprints for weapons have been in the dev pipeline for quite some time, but I had a bit to do with the ingredients in this release's blueprints. We made sure that they are using crystals and parts that have (almost) no other uses yet in world, so I'd suggest working with a guild or a group to gather materials and exchange them, or use some of the crystal stacks everyone says they have in storage. My goal is, of course, to have many uses for each piece of Next Island loot, and I hope the next few VUs will keep bringing us closer to that goal. *Speechless ... googling for a reference of "differences WoW vs EU" while taking next flight to Ark * :(
I've always told new people joining EU to forget all the stuff they learned other places especially WoW. EU is nothing like WoW. This thread really makes me depressed. Although I understand development on NI has been slower than other planets I was willing to wait. I was excited and when NI was first open but have been feeling more and more disappointed recently. I am really starting to regret my investment of a beach hut on NI now. My vacation paradise has become a hollow shell of what was to be. Hoping for the best in the future but getting doubtful..
